SQLstream 4 Product Brief CHANGING THE ECONOMICS OF BIG DATA SQLstream 4.0 product brief

2 Latest: The latest release of SQlstream s award winning s-streaming Product Portfolio, SQLstream 4, is changing the economics of Big Data. SQLstream 4 addresses the five pillars of Big Data economics, enabling streaming Big Data analytics applications with the lowest total cost of performance of any Big Data technology. Ever more intelligence in machine data 1. Class-leading Performance. Machine Big Data is requires real-time, actionable insights, yet the volume, velocity and variety of the data continue to increase dramatically. SQLstream was already the most scalable, high performance streaming platform available in the market, yet data volume continues to grow, so SQLstream has kept pace, with a range of performance improvements and low latency optimization. 2. Streaming Visualization. SQLstream 4 sees a world first: true real-time dashboards over streaming data analytics a new dimension in data visualization. SQLstream s enterprise visualization product, SQLstream s-visualizer, and our new HTML5 dashboard developer platform, SQLstream s-server Dashboards, both connect directly to live analytics streams no storing of data, no repeated polling, immediate push-based updates. SQLstream 4 eliminates the cost, performance and latency overheads suffered by traditional Big Data and analytics tools, where data must first be stored and dashboards refreshed continually. 3. Time to Value with StreamApps. SQLstream StreamApps are built on SQLstream s core s-server streaming analytics and machine data integration platform, and enable organizations to realize immediate value from their streaming log file, sensor, device and network data. This new concept in Big Data offers rapid time to revenue with application flexibility. 4. Reducing the Data Integration Tax. Big Data has been focused on the data, yet traditional data management issues such as integration have not gone away. SQLstream 4 introduces an improved data management integration layer, with new and improved adapters and agents for streaming machine data, as well as enterprise integration adapters with storage platforms, warehouses and operational systems. 5. Standards. SQLstream continues to be at the forefront of Big Data standards and standardization. SQLstream 4 introduces additional SQL operations, and as always, aligned with the SQL: 2008 and SQL:2011 standards, and with new and revised documentation on building standards-based streaming SQL Big Data apps. Standards mean reusable applications with lower lifecycle total cost of ownership (TCO), essential as Big Data enters the world of mainstream enterprise.

3 Market-leading Performance SQLstream 4 takes streaming Big Data performance to new levels. Our previous release of SQLstream s-server had already set the industry standard for streaming data throughput performance, with an independent benchmark of 1.3 million records per second on a commodity 4-core server. SQLstream 4 has already been benchmarked at 570,000 records per second per core making it the most scalable and capable platform for streaming Big Data analytics. Technical enhancements that have contributed to these new performance levels include: Optimized management of internal streaming data flows for low latency, high throughput applications, by eliminating unnecessary data redundancy. Optimization of UDX (user defined transforms and functions) performance. Most streaming data applications require applicationspecific functions and customer-specific business rules for integration with external data storage platforms, warehouse and operational systems. What does this mean for our customers? Coupled with existing scale up (multiple cores) and scale out (multiple servers), SQLstream 4 is the only product capable of delivering the million records per second requirements for today s cybersecurity, telecommunications and Internet of Things applications. SQLstream 4: real-time scalability and automation for a wide range of industries and applications.

4 Streaming Data Visualization SQLstream 4 visualization options define a new dimension in our customers availability to gain actionable insight on data in motion. Meaningful visualization of streaming data analytics poses significant challenges for existing analytics and dashboard vendors. All existing tools are polling-based, meaning they must read stored, static data, and must reread the data to refresh the display as new data arrive. This introduces cost, latency and poor performance, making these tools inappropriate for real-time applications. SQLstream 4 s visualization tools are different, offering true push-based visualization all dashboards are updated in real-time as soon as new data and analytics arrive with intelligent aggregation and throttling for high velocity data streams. SQLstream s-visualizer - For enterprise power users SQLstream s-visualizer is a drag and drop platform for building real-time dashboards over streaming time-series data. s-visualizer accepts any push based streams from s-server, our core streaming data analytics platform, and updates dashboards continuously as soon as new data arrive. With sophisticated meta-driven configuration, users can build powerful, streaming data driven analytics and visualizations, with a powerful user experience. Real-time dashboards based on push data and continuous chart updates no refresh or stored data required. Fully integrated with s-server for display of streaming data and analytics from any data source structured or unstructured. Customizable, metadata-driven interfaces for building personalized dashboards in minutes, with visual programming and drag and drop workflows. Connect to existing database tables for displaying existing non-streaming, static data, and combining this in dashboards with real-time, streaming analytics.

STREAMING DATA VISUALIZATION 5 s-server Dashboards - For streaming analytics app developers s-server Dashboards is an HTML5 platform for building real-time streaming dashboards on any device. Delivered as an integral component of our core s-server streaming data management platform, s-server Dashboards enables streaming application developers to configure and develop easily and quickly. Flexible, configurable HTML5 platform capable of delivering realtime, push-based dashboards over streaming analytics on any device. An integral component of s-server core streaming platform, enabling developers to deploy complete applications on-premise or in the Cloud without any additional products, tools or integrations. Pre-configured with streaming Dashboard Widgets and Panels for common streaming visualizations. Web Agent Adapter for 3 rd Party Reporting Tools SQLstream s WebAgent enables our customers to connect their existing BI dashboard tools to streaming data and analytics. Unlike our s-visualizer and s-server Dashboards products that operate from streaming data directly, existing BI reporting and dashboarding tools require a static data store. SQLstream s WebAgent bridges this gap, converting streams into intelligent round-robin static tables, or materialized views. Existing BI tools are now able to connect to streaming data without special adapters or extensive customization. Intelligent update and aggregation of the WebAgent s static views isolates tools designed for data at rest from the velocity of high speed data streams. Complementary to existing s-server capability to (re)stream static stored data and to visualize in s-visualizer and s-server Dashboards as an overlay on streaming data. What does this mean for our customers? The meaningful visualization of real-time operational intelligence from streaming machine data requires a new approach. The volume, velocity and variety of the machine data and operational intelligence streams, coupled with the requirement for low latency answers, means existing BI architectures and tools are unable to keep up. With s-visualizer, our customers power users are able to gain real-time insights over Operational Intelligence. With s-server Dashboards, developers and IT have the flexibility to deploy push-based dashboards across any device or channel. And of course, interworking with the existing BI landscape is essential, and the WebAgent ensures investment in BI tools is maximized.

6 SQLstream StreamApps StreamApps are built on SQLstream s core s-server streaming analytics and machine data integration platform, and enable organizations to realize immediate value from their streaming log file, sensor, device and network data. This new concept in Big Data offers both rapid time to revenue and application flexibility, with the lowest Total Cost of Big Data Performance of any Big Data technology. Each StreamApp contains a set of standard components, typically including log, equipment and device adapters for realtime data collection, package of streaming analytics and streaming dashboards. For the release of SQLstream 4, SQLstream StreamApps will be available for the Telecoms (CDR/IPDR analytics), Geospatial Intelligence and Intelligent Transportation (Traffic congestion and Journey Time), with additional StreamApps scheduled frequently on the StreamApp roadmap. StreamApps can be developed by both SQLstream and our accredited partners. What does this mean for our customers? In a Big Data industry typified by a lack of standards and high development costs, StreamApps takes SQLstream's standards-based SQL platform for streaming Operational Intelligence to the next level of usability and enterprise adoption, with rapid time to value, and the lowest cost of performance of any realtime Operational Intelligence or real-time Big Data technology.

7 Simplified, faster, STREAMING DATA INTEGRATION Streaming data analytics and real-time Operational Intelligence applications are critically dependent on their ability to collect and integration data at scale. Many systems can connect and analyze a log file or two; processing 10,000s of log files simultaneously coupled with real-time world analytics, is a problem of an entirely different scale. SQLstream 4 adds a new unified sub-system for ease of data adapter and agent extensibility, and includes a range of performance optimization techniques that enable SQLstream to scale to the millions of records per second level required of many of today s operational intelligence applications. What does this mean for our customers? Integration Tax is a major concern for any software project and is the reason why many previous projects have stalled, run over budget, or simply not delivered. SQLstream is focused on seamless and futureextensible integrations with all sources and sinks of data, the importance of time to value, ease of integration of new data sources and changing data source formats, and the need to minimize lifecycle costs.

8 SQL STANDARDS FOR BIG DATA SQL has emerged as the de facto language for Big Data processing, for example, Cloudera Impala and Google BigQuery. SQL is also the ideal language for processing data streams using real-time, windows-based queries. The issue with normalization and rigid schemes is a non-issue for a streaming data platform there are no tables, no data gets stored! With SQLstream 4, we ve continued our commitment to standards in the Big Data industry. SQLstream 4 adds new SQL standards support, aligned with SQL:2008 and SQL:2011 standards, including additional SQL operators, simplified and extended support for SQL/MED integration (which enables SQL queries directly over machine data sources including log files), and performance optimization for user defined functions (UDXes enable sophisticated Java applications and functions to be added to the streaming SQL pipeline). What does this mean for our customers? Standards mean lower cost, maintainable and future-proof systems, with significantly lower lifecycle cost of ownership. As Big Data enters mainstream enterprise, so the industry must move from bespoke application development to true standards-based platforms.

9 And There s More SQLstream 4 is our most advanced streaming data management platform and is setting the bar for streaming analytics and real-time operational intelligence solutions in the market place. SQLstream 4 includes a wide range of enhancements and features over and above the major release themes of performance, visualization, time to value, ease of integration and standards.
