Page: 2 of 5 31 May 06 Backup Process SafeComs utilizes the proven industry standard backup rotation strategy known as Grandfather Father Son (GFS). Through GFS, we are able to maintain a constant and consistent series of daily, weekly, and monthly backups of your data. In detail, GFS is a strategy of Full and Differential backups to efficiently and effectively protect your data. In this strategy, SafeComs perform a regular Full backup of all files (weekly), then a more frequent Differential backup (daily) of all files that have changed since the last full backup session. At the end of each month, a Full backup is archived for that month. The monthly Full backup is maintained for one year in our vault. A Full backup copies all the selected data files on the computer. With a full backup of your data set on tape, SafeComs can restore all your selected data if a disaster destroys the original files. A Differential backup copies all files that have been added or changed since the last Full backup job. This Full/Differential backup method helps the restore process run more efficiently, because only one full backup disk/tape and one differential backup disk/tape are required for a complete restore of your required data. Because data files change every time someone enters new information, SafeComs performs a backup of your data files every day (only those files that have changed) and then performs a complete backup of the entire system on a weekly basis.
