We gather in silent prayer The Gathering The Greeting We meet in the name of God: All Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Lord of glory be with you All The Lord of glory bless you. Voice 1 From mist and darkness from restful waters All God gathers us. Voice 2 From health and sickness from plenty and poverty All God gathers us. Voice 3 From highroads and byways from fields and cities All God gathers us. President To a feast, a banquet, to life eternal All God gathers us. 3

Prayers of Penitence Whoever is on the Lord s side, let them join with me, that we may come to the visions of God. We kneel or sit and silence may be kept All Create a clean heart within me, O God, so that it may become your chosen shelter and the resting place of the Holy Spirit. I make the cross of Christ upon my breast, over the tablet of my heart, and I beseech the living God of the universe, may the Light of lights come to my dark heart so that I may live in the power of your love. The president says Pour down upon us from heaven the rich blessing of your forgiveness. Grant to us, O Saviour of Glory, the fear of God, the love of God and his affection, and the will of God to do on earth at all times as angels and saints do in heaven. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit All Amen. 4

The Conference Collect Pour out your Holy Spirit, Lord, upon your church that it may grow in faith, hope and love. Inspire it in service, ignite it to action, instil it with holiness that all people may be drawn into your embrace and rejoice as citizens of your Kingdom; through Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life. All Amen. The Liturgy of the Word Please sit for the Readings Epistle Reading 1 Peter 5:1-5 Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you 2 to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it not for sordid gain but eagerly. 3 Do not lord it over those in your charge, but be examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief shepherd appears, you will win the crown of glory that never fades away. 5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. For the word of the Lord All Thanks be to God. A time for silence reflection follows 5

Gospel Reading Mark 10:32-52 Text for Bible Study Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark, chapter 10 All Glory to you, O Lord. Voice 1 Voice 2 They were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was to happen to him, 33 saying, See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death; then they will hand him over to the Gentiles; 34 they will mock him, and spit upon him, and flog him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise again. 35 James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you. 36 And he said to them, What is it you want me to do for you? 37 And they said to him, Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory. 38 But Jesus said to them, You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39 They replied, We are able. Then Jesus said to them, The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; 40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared. 6

Voice 1 41 When the ten heard this, they began to be angry with James and John. 42 So Jesus called them and said to them, You know that among the Gentiles those whom they recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. 43 But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. 46 They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! 48 Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, Son of David, have mercy on me! 49 Jesus stood still and said, Call him here. And they called the blind man, saying to him, Take heart; get up, he is calling you. 50 So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 Then Jesus said to him, What do you want me to do for you? The blind man said to him, My teacher, let me see again. 52 Jesus said to him, Go; your faith has made you well. Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way. At the end the reader says This is the Gospel of the Lord. All Praise to you, O Christ. 7

Prayers of Intercession The following response may be used Lord, in your mercy All hear our prayer. And at the end Merciful Father, All accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. The Liturgy of the Sacrament The Peace please stand Christ, King of Tenderness, bind us with a bond that cannot be broken. Bind us with a bond of love that cannot be broken. My brothers and sisters, the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. All and also with you. Let us share in that peace together. All are invited to exchange a sign of peace. 8

Preparation of the Table Taking of the Bread and Wine During the hymn the bread and wine are brought to the altar. 1 Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart, naught be all else to me save that thou art; thou my best thought in the day and the night, waking and sleeping, thy presence my light. 2 Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word, I ever with thee and thou with me Lord; thou my great Father, and I thy true heir; thou in me dwelling, and I in thy care. 3 Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight; be thou my armour, and be thou my might; thou my soul's shelter, and thou my high tower: raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power. 4 Riches I need not, nor all the world's praise: thou mine inheritance through all my days; thou, and thou only, the first in my heart; O Sovereign of heaven, my treasure thou art. 5 High King of heaven, thou heaven's bright sun, O grant me its joys after victory is won; great Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be thou my vision, O Ruler of all. Irish c.8 th century, trans Mary Byrne (1890-1931) and Eleanor Hull (1860-1935) 9

The president takes the bread and wine. We bless you, High King of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread and wine to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made; they will become our spiritual food and drink. All Blessed be God for ever. The Eucharistic Prayer Please remain standing for the Eucharistic Prayer The Lord is here. All His Spirit is with us. Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All It is right to give thanks and praise. It is indeed right, our duty and our joy that we should always sing of your glory, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. For you are the hope of the nations, the builder of the city that is to come. Your love made visible in Jesus Christ brings home the lost, restores the sinner and gives dignity to the despised. 10

In his face your light shines out, flooding lives with goodness and truth, gathering into one in your kingdom a divided and broken humanity. Therefore with all who can give voice in your creation we glorify your name, for ever praising you and saying: All Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. We praise you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son. On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory. 11

Great is the mystery of faith: All Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Lord of all life, help us to work together for that day when your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever. All Amen. Please kneel or sit while a time of silence is kept The Lord s Prayer Let us pray for the coming of God s kingdom in the words our Saviour taught us All Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name; your kingdom come; your will be done; on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen. 12

Breaking of the Bread The president breaks the consecrated bread. We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. The Agnus Dei is said as the bread is broken Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us. Jesus, redeemer of the world, grant us peace. Giving of Communion If you are thirsty, drink the Fount of Life. If you are hungry, eat the Bread of Life. All Blessed are all who hunger for this Bread and thirst for this Fount. The bread and the wine will be distributed from various places around the hall. During Communion the following hymn will be sung 1 The King of love my shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never; I nothing lack if I am his and he is mine forever. 13

2 Where streams of living water flow my ransomed soul he leadeth and where the verdant pastures grow with food celestial feedeth. 3 Perverse and foolish oft I strayed, but yet in love he sought me, and on his shoulder gently laid, and home rejoicing brought me. 4 In death s dark vale I fear no ill with thee, dear Lord, beside me; thy rod and staff my comfort still, thy cross before to guide me. 5 Thou spreadst a table in my sight, thine unction grace bestoweth: and O what transport of delight from thy pure chalice floweth! 6 And so through all the length of days thy goodness faileth never; Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house for ever. Prayer after Communion Silence may be kept Eternal God, giver of love and power, your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into all the world to preach the gospel of his kingdom: confirm us in this mission, and help us to live the good news we proclaim; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All Amen. 14 Henry William Baker (1821-1877) Based on Psalm 23

The Sending Out The Blessing + I bless you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Sacred Spirit: the One and the Three. May God give you to drink of his cup; may the sun be bright upon you; may the night call down peace; and when you come to his household may the door be open wide for you to go in to your joy. All Amen. A minister says Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. All In the name of Christ. Amen.
