FREQUENTLY ASKED USHER QUESTIONS HOW DO I APPLY FOR THIS JOB? We are taking applications until Friday, September 4 at 5:00 pm. Interviews will take place Tuesday-Wednesday, September 15-16. If you pass the background checks and interviews, you will need to make a paperwork session on Tuesday or Wednesday, September 22-23 and mandatory orientation on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 29-30. No back up dates are available. For late arriving applications/background checks, you may be hired and attend the orientation. But, if your background check comes back negative, we will immediately drop you from the roster. WHAT ARE AN USHER S DUTIES? During events ushers may scan tickets, seat guests, answer guest questions or provide assistance to injured guests. After several months, provided their work habits are excellent and a regular work schedule has been established, an usher may be assigned to security. Other extra jobs are assisting with office duties, laundry or numbering floor chairs the day of a show. WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DO I NEED? None. We will train you for this job. Experience really means nothing to us as each venue has its own policies and we are no different than any other venue except our ushers are better. WHAT IS THE RATE OF PAY AND CAN I GET OVERTIME? Starting rate of pay for an usher is $10.00 an hour. After at least one year, an usher may be promoted to a supervisor position. That rate of pay is $12.50 an hour. Overtime is not an option. WHEN ARE EVENTS SCHEDULED? Events could happen at virtually any time of the week. WHAT TYPES OF EVENTS ARE THERE? Rock, country and hip hop concerts, basketball and football games, track/field meets, circus, Sesame Street Live, seminars, conventions, career fairs, banquets and a whole bunch more. WHAT DO I WEAR? For most concerts and basketball games, usher attire is tan pants or skirts and clean, white tennis shoes. Jeans and dirty tennis shoes or sandals are not permitted. Shirts are provided at check in for most events. Ushers will also need to carry a pen, paper and a small flashlight. The Erwin Center will provide batteries for the flashlights. For outdoor sporting events or rare occasions at the Erwin Center, tan shorts are acceptable. For formal events, men will wear a navy blue blazer, tan pants, white dress shirt with tie and dress shoes. Ladies will wear a navy blue blazer, tan skirt or pants, white blouse and dress shoes. Dark, soft, walking shoes are acceptable but tennis shoes are not during formal events. HOW LONG CAN I WORK? You can stay on the payroll as long as you wish provided you work the minimum number of events required. Some of our ushers have been on the roster for over 25 years and some work a semester and call it quits. It is up to you. HOW DO YOU GET ASSIGNED TO AN EVENT? We do not assign you. You can come in and sign up for whatever you want to work. That is why this job is so good for working around your current schedule. WILL I GET TO MEET THE ENTERTAINERS, GET AUTOGRAPHS, GET FREE TICKETS, OR PURCHASE TICKETS AT A DISCOUNTED PRICE? No.

Criminal Background Check Form Page 1 of 7 Created: October 23, 2012 Updated: June 3, 2015 Document can be printed double-sided to save paper. Draft 11 EM 150 The University of Texas at Austin has an obligation to provide a safe environment for all members of the UT Austin community and to protect the property of UT Austin. For these reasons, all job applicants must provide and certify any requirement to register as a sex offender and their complete adult criminal conviction record. This includes any conviction and/or deferred adjudication where the final disposition is still pending (i.e. the original charge has not been judicially dismissed) from the age of 17 until now. Before an applicant is referred to or hired for a specific job vacancy, the severity, time since conviction, and direct job relatedness of his or her conviction(s) are compared to the functions of the vacant position. Based on that review, an applicant may not be referred, or hired. However, a criminal conviction does not necessarily disqualify an individual from being hired. Notice Concerning Your Information The Texas Public Information Act, with a few exceptions, gives you the right to be informed about the information that The University of Texas at Austin collects about you. It also gives you the right to request a copy of that information; and to have the University correct any of that information that is wrong. You may request to receive and review any of that information, or request corrections to it, by contacting the University's Public Information Officer, Office of Financial Affairs, PO Box 8179, Austin, Texas, 78713, e-mail: cfo@www.utexas.edu. No statute or other authority requires that you disclose your SSN for that purpose. Failure to provide your SSN, however, may result in dismissal or ineligibility to be hired. Further disclosure of your SSN is governed by the Public Information Act (Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code) and other applicable law.
