AM/FM Component Stereo Receiver System (120-1470) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 18708 POWER REQUIREMENTS Connect the AC line cord into any outlet furnishing 117 volts 50-60 cycles AC current. CONNECTING SPEAKERS Connect the speakers to the receiver by using the supplied cables. The speaker on the right, as you face the unit, should be connected to the jack marked RIGHT. Use the same procedure to connect the left speaker. Speakers may be placed in any convenient position; however, for optimum results, they should be placed against a wall or in a corner. CONTROLS POWER SWITCH Depressing the white dot on the switch will turn the unit on, at which time the dial will illuminate. SELECTOR SWITCH This switch will select the program source that will be reproduced by your system. AM In this position, all standard AM broadcasts are reproduced. FM MONO In this position, all FM broadcasts will be reproduced monaurally. If the stereo indicator illuminates, it is an indication that the station is transmitting stereo broadcasts. FM STEREO In this position, your system is capable of reproducing FM stereo broadcasts in stereo. It will also reproduce monaural broadcasts monaurally. PH/TAPE

In this position, your system will reproduce either a tape or record depending on the device that is being used. VOLUME Controls the loudness of the system, rotation in a clockwise direction increases the loudness and rotation in a counter-clockwise direction decreases the loudness. BALANCE This control is used to balance any differences in level from left to right channel due to differences in program material or associated equipment. Control should be set for approximately equal levels from your speakers. BASS AND TREBLE These controls increase or decrease the bass and treble tones and should be set in accordance with listening preference, and room acoustics. TUNING This control allows selection of stations on either the AM or FM band. Control should be set for optimum reproduction when listening to AM or FM. AFC This switch when depressed locks the signal of FM and FM stereo broadcasts. It simplifies tuning when it is depressed before selecting a station. PHONO INPUT A stereo record changer with a high level cartridge (ceramic or crystal) may be plugged into these jacks. TAPE INPUT A tape deck with playback preamps may be plugged into these jacks. REC OUT These jacks should be connected to the input jacks of your tape recorder. This connection will allow you to make recordings of the program source your system is reproducing. The output level at these jacks is unaffected by the front settings.

HEADPHONE JACK When stereo headphones are connected to this jack, the speakers are automatically shut off. The operation is the same at outlined previously. ANTENNA TERMINALS The set comes equipped with built-in antenna for AM and an external "single wire" type for FM. FM "single wire" should be unwrapped and extended to full length and located to give best reception. These antennas will be suitable for normal metropolitan use. For more distant stations external antennas may be used. To connect an external antenna for improved FM reception, disconnect the wire that is presently connected and connect the wires from the external antenna. For AM, all that is usually required is a long piece of wire connected to the AM terminal. This may improve reception; however, it may also increase the noise level being picked up.
