PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS > Groups are limited to 28 travelers to maximize your travel experience. > Enjoy four-night stays each in Normandy and Brittany, plus two nights in Paris. > Marvel at the Bayeux Tapestry, which tells the story of William the Conqueror and the Battle of Hastings. > Explore historic D-Day landmarks. > Visit majestic Mont-Saint-Michel. > Discover medieval Dinan and pretty St-Malo. > Cruise the Rance River as you admire the bucolic Rance Valley. On June 6, 1944, despite mounting challenges, a heroic formation of Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of Normandy coastline. They were there to fight Nazi Germany, and by the end of that day, the Allies had gained a foothold in France. As the soldiers began their march across Europe with one clear mission to defeat Hitler the invasion proved to be the beginning of the end of World War II. Walk through history on this exclusive journey through Normandy, featuring excursions that highlight the Allies important victory, before exploring pristine Brittany and bustling Paris. Below: Bayeux Tapestry UNESCO Mont-Saint-Michel and its Bay and Chartres Cathedral are the UNESCO World Heritage sites featured on this program.

Normandy and D-Day From Viking raiders in the 800s to William the Conqueror in 1066, the beaches of Normandy have been the setting for many historic military campaigns that have altered the course of history. But at no other time did the beaches play a more vital role than on D-Day, when they became the site of the largest military landing in history. On June 6, 1944, a coalition force of some 156,000 soldiers fought their way onto five heavily fortified beaches. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported them. Catching the German occupiers by surprise, the attack was a success; by day s end the Allies had a foothold in Normandy. But it came at a great cost more than 9,000 soldiers were killed or wounded. As the Allied forces began the long march to defeat Hitler, they liberated Norman towns such as Bayeux and Caen. Today, the people here still have an affinity for the United States and Canada, two countries that contributed greatly to the liberation effort.
