THE PERRYMAN S LIVE IN THE QUIET CHICAGO SUBURB OF STREAMWOOD, ILLINOIS. MARK AND DEB HAVE THREE GIRLS, DANNAH, JENNAH AND HANNAH. 13. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:01.31.29 We re very close. 10:01.20.00 We re always busy, always doing something. 10:01.37.00 We actually like to be outdoors more than we like to be indoors. 14. THE YOUNGEST GIRLS LOOK UP TO THEIR BIG SISTER, HANNAH. 15. Jennah Perryman, Hannah s Sister STK202I005a 12.52.04.00

She always was loving, she used to always hang out and stuff, and we always played together. 16. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:03.26.00 Hannah was very happy, // Very friendly // very trusting, very outgoing. 10:04.08.00 Hannah got along with everybody. 17. THAT IS, UNTIL THE FIFTH GRADE WHEN SHE MEETS KAREN - A GIRL WHO LIVES AROUND THE CORNER. 18. Hannah Perryman STK202I005a 13.25.20.00 Karen was just odd. That s just the only thing I can really say. It s like one of those people you meet and you know are weird. 19. Jennah Perryman, Hannah s Sister STK202I005a 12.53.37.00 Karen wanted to play games like Bar. Like that s how one of them was called where we would pretend that we were drinking, and smoking cigarettes, and hanging out with our boyfriends and all this stuff. 20. THE GIRLS TELL THEIR MOTHER ABOUT THE GAMES BUT DEB ENCOURAGES THEM TO GIVE KAREN A CHANCE. 21. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:08.05.00 As a public school teacher, I m like; I know she s a weird girl, but play with the weird girl because that s the nice thing to do. 22. Hannah Perryman STK202I005a 13.30.15.00 I was just like, alright. I ll give the girl a chance. 23. SOON AFTER, KAREN INVITES HANNAH AND JENNAH TO A SLEEPOVER AT HER HOUSE. THE GIRLS RELUCTANTLY AGREE. 24. Jennah Perryman, Hannah s Sister STK202I005a 13.01.14.00 So we walked to her house, we got inside and everything was normal. 25. Hannah Perryman STK202I005a 13.34.15.00 I just remember being on the computer, and her being on MySpace 13.34.25.00 And then us eating food. STK202I005a 13.34.45.00 But then we went upstairs and we watched TV and stuff.

26. BUT WHEN THE PARTY MOVES TO KAREN S BEDROOM THE GIRLS BECOME UNCOMFORTABLE. 27. Jennah Perryman, Hannah s Sister STK202I005a 12.57.52.00 She was bigger than me when I was little. 12.57.34.00 She was just very intimidating and scary. 28. Jennah Perryman, Hannah s Sister STK202I005a 13.01.17.00 We were starting to watch, a movie, and it was kind of a weird movie. 29. AND BEFORE LONG, THE UNTHINKABLE HAPPENS. 30. Jennah Perryman, Hannah s Sister STK202I005a 13.01.55.14 and then she assaulted us. 31. Hannah Perryman STK202I005a 13.29.30.00 It was just hard to get away from her. 32. Hannah Perryman STK202I005a 13.33.07.00 She said I'm going to kill your dogs if you tell anyone. And, of course, me, loving my dogs // I'm not going to say anything. 33. THE INCIDENT IS SO SHOCKING, THE PERRYMANS HAVE TROUBLE DISCUSSING IT TO THIS DAY SEVEN YEARS LATER. 34. Hannah Perryman STK202I005a 13.34.55.00 I was just like numb. // I just tried to shut my mind off. 35. THE NEXT MORNING THE GIRLS LEAVE CONFUSED AND SCARED. 36. Hannah Perryman STK202I005a 13.37.13.06 I remember the walk down the stairs like out of her room, down the hallway and down the stairs and out the door. And it was a very long walk because obviously I was just like what am I going to say to my parents? Because I don't want to hurt them. I don't want to make them feel like it was their fault. 37. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:15.37.00 The girls were sitting at the table doing their homework, and Hannah and Jenna were having a conversation that they were trying to keep quiet. They were kind of whispering and passing notes and that wasn t normally how they interacted 10:15.50.00 And then Jenna said to Hannah, tell mom, tell mom what happened. 38. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:16.53.23 I was like is this, how could this be? How did this happen? I was mad at

myself for letting them go 10:16.16.00 I sat down with them and // got as many details as I could. I wanted to know what happened but I didn t want to traumatize them. 39. DEB CALLS THE STREAMWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT AT ONCE AND REPORTS THE INCIDENT. 40. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:18.02.00 They came to our home pretty quickly. 10:19.55.00 After they talked to us and the other victims, They did go to Karen and her family and from everything I remember and recall; she admitted everything pretty quickly. 41. KAREN IS NOT GIVEN JAIL TIME BECAUSE SHE S A MINOR. INSTEAD, SHE IS SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS OF THERAPY. 42. Michelle Ward, Host Tape & TC This is a first for me. A 13- year old girl assaulting other children? Any time you have such reprehensible behavior from a child, it s a dangerous sign. This could be a sick mind in the making. It makes me wonder what s going on in Karen s home. 43. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:17.38.00 I was very concerned for Karen // 10:22.21.00 Kids make mistakes, and we want them to get better // 10:20.23.00 We really thought ok then, everybody s going to get the help that they need. 44. IN JULY 2005, KAREN COMPLETES HER THERAPY. 45. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:25.40.00 We kind of thought, all right // Everything s going to be great. 46. BUT SOON THE PERRYMANS REALIZE, NOT ONLY IS KAREN UNREFORMED; SHE S OUT FOR REVENGE. 47. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:25.46.00 Shortly after it was completed, then we started seeing her out in front of our home. 48. Jennah Perryman, Hannah s Sister STK202I005a 13.08.34.00 Karen would walk out in front of my house like back and forth for a really long time, she'd yell and make animal noises, stare up at the house, she would stand there and stare up at the house, and she would just, she would stay out there for like two hours and if we'd leave, she would always be there when we

came back. 49. KAREN S NOW HELL BENT ON GETTING HANNAH BACK FOR REPORTING THE ASSAULT. 50. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:30.45.00 She was definitely focused on Hannah. 10:30.23.00 We really weren t sure if it was an obsession, we didn t know if she was jealous. We didn t know if she was mad and really plotting to hurt her. 51. Jennah Perryman, Hannah s Sister STK202I005a 13.05.11.00 I don't know why she chose Hannah as her target. I think maybe because 13.05.24.00 Hannah, told. But it wasn't really Hannah that told. It was both of us. I don't know. 52. Hannah Perryman STK202I005a 13.44.11.29 It really dawned on me that she was really after me 13.46.04.00 It was like, why is she still in my life? Why can't she just leave me alone? 53. Michelle Ward, Host Tape & TC This is a very bizarre case; I ve never seen one like it. I would call Karen a Revenge Stalker. She s reacting to the trouble Hannah got her in and is focused on making her pay. Karen assaulted Hannah in the past - she s dangerous and could be mentally unstable. She may be destined for a troubled life if no on intervenes. I d be worried about this kid. 54. DAY-IN AND DAY-OUT, KAREN LURKS OUTSIDE THE PERRYMAN S HOME. FINALLY, DEB CALLS THE POLICE FOR HELP. 55. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I002a 10:40.39.00 I sound like a lunatic when I m calling 911 to say I ve got a kid // in front of my house. 10:48.31.00 He explained to us at that time that there really wasn t much that could be done, that that was a normal kid thing. 56. Kerry Lester, Daily Herald STK202I001a 08:29.04.00 She hadn t done anything to break the law. I mean, if there s a teen that pacing outside of your home, if there s a teen that s not getting along with your daughter, // 08:26.51.00 What are they going to charge her with? 57. Hannah Perryman STK202I006a 14:29:40:00 I think people were kind of like, oh, it's just some girl drama, you know; they'll figure it out. 14:29:54:00 It's stupid. Why should we care?

58. BUT THEY LL SOON DISCOVER IT S MORE THAN JUST TEENAGE BICKERING - KAREN S OUT TO SETTLE THE SCORE. 59. Deb Perryman, Hannah s Mother STK202I003a 10:59.45.00 It could be a thunderstorm, it could be a blizzard, and Karen s out in front, you know, looking at our house! 60. END ACT 1 END ACT 1
