Submission (i) The copies of the masters' dissertation or project work to be submitted, in number according with the stipulated in the guidelines of the 2nd cycle, or of the doctoral thesis, in number according with the stipulated in the guidelines of the 3rd cycle, in paper and CD with.pdf format file. [Other requisites for deposit in the institutional repository (https://repositorio.iscte.pt/) and in the Portuguese National Library 2 and for the Observatory: the CD identified with the title, name of the author, identification of ISCTE-IUL, year in which the defence takes place and type of work (thesis, dissertation, project work) written in indelible ink, and packed in cardboard or plastic box; the abstracts in both languages in MS Word file]. (ii) (iii) (iv) Each copy contains a CV in form of table in the end. In the final version of the doctoral thesis a second page must be included, indicating the composition of the board of examiners. 2 abstracts, one in Portuguese and the other in English, with a maximum of 250 words each, and at least 4 key words and the classification adopted in the organic unit. The option for this format arises from the intention of summoning students to produce an uncommon graphic composition, so as to boost their commitment which, according to our scientific criteria, may improve the quality of the final result; - A set of drawings reproduced so as to fit the A4 format, which correspond to the graphic elements presented by the candidate, in fitting scale and size, during the public act of evaluation before the board of examiners; - A CD containing the general data for presentation, in pdf format.] The printing of the master's dissertation or project work or doctoral thesis must conform to the following general rules: a) A4 white paper with 80 grams, or recycled equivalent. 3/10
b) White cardstock cover with black printing, logotype in colour and adhesive binding. c) Pages of text with black print, spacing of 1,5 and divided into chapters/sections with Arabic numerals; two-sided printing is suggested. d) Font type and size: Times New Roman 12 points; or Arial 10 points. e) Footnotes with single line spacing. Use moderately with line 10 points. f) Margins: minimum 2.5 centimetres on the four sides. g) Page numbering from the tables of contents to the introduction (exclusively): in Roman numbering, down and outside the margins. h) Header: it is recommended to insert the title (abbreviated) of the thesis. i) Footer: page numbers in Arabic numerals, outside the margins. The bibliography must be presented in indented paragraphs with single line spacing, in Times New Roman 12 or Arial 10. 2.4 Tables and graphs Tables and graphs must have Arabic numbering and caption with title and description. The caption is self-explanatory. tables, graphs and figures should, preferentially, be near the part of the main text to which they refer to, and may be printed in colour. 4/10
2.5 Citation and transcription of sources In general, the rules of citation and references are the ones designated by each Department/School on the basis of determined normative criteria or benchmarks.
