A Comparison of the Priesthood of Aaron with the Priesthood of Christ by Norton M. Rainey, Jr. The student of the Bible needs to ask the following questions: Is there a difference in the Old Testament Priesthood and the New Testament Priesthood? If so, what are the differences? Is Christ the fulfillment of the Old Testament priesthood? The purpose of this tract is to help the Bible student better understand the two priesthoods of the Old and New Testaments. The book of Hebrews speaks to this doctrine or teaching more than any book in the Bible, and chapters 7-10 primarily focus on this subject as so noted by the scripture references below. The reader may find different words or phrases describing the same characteristic or description contrasting the two priesthoods. By using different words or phrases from various translations or paraphrase Bibles, we use repetition to learn truths vital to maturity and growth. Just as a diamond may be viewed from different angles, the two priesthoods contrasted and viewed from different angles will be helpful in learning the beauty of HIS holiness. The two priesthoods as seen in Hebrews contrast the dispensations of Law and Grace. We see more clearly that Christ is the end of the Law. (Romans 10:4) Since He "ever lives to make intercession," He is our High Priest and all believers are priests under Him. Or as 1

stated clearly in a paraphrase version, "but Jesus lives forever and continues to be a Priest so that no one else is needed." Studying the following references will make this perfectly clear to the reader. Not to understand the fact that the Law has been done away with, along with its accompanying Levitical/Aaronic priesthood, creates bondage as seen in Galatians. To understand that Christ is our High Priest and we are priests, exalts and gives place to the truths Christ wants us to experience daily. If the readers of this tract would study and contemplate these things, they would be awed by them and more inclined to fulfill their call to the highest privileges that the New Covenant can provide.
