Jacob and his family lived a long time ago in the land of Canaan. Jacob had 12 sons but one of them was his favourite. His name was Joseph. Jacob gave Joseph a fine coat to show that he was his favourite son. His brothers hated him and not just because of the coat. Colour in the picture, using bright colours for Joseph s coat. Genesis 37:1 4 3

Another reason why Joseph s brothers hated him was because of his dreams. One day Joseph told them, I dreamt we were out in the field tying up bundles of wheat. My bundle stood up and yours made a circle around mine and bowed down to it. Use the code to find out what Joseph s brothers said to him. e = g = i = k = l = n = r = u = Do you really think you are going to be and over us? 4 Genesis 37:5 8

Some time later, Joseph had another dream. He told his father and his brothers, I dreamt that the sun, moon and 11 stars all bowed down to me. His father was cross. Do you really think your mother and I and your brothers are going to bow down to you? Jacob asked. But he wondered to himself what the dream could mean. Look for these words from Joseph s dream in the wordsearch. Look up and down, forwards and backwards. Draw a ring around the words. Joseph s brothers looked after the family s flocks of sheep and goats. They were often far away from home because they had to move around with the animals to find grass. One day Jacob said to Joseph, Take this food to your brothers and find out if they are all right. So Joseph set off. Look at the picture and find six things that would not have been there in Joseph s time. Then count the number of sheep! 6 Genesis 37:12 24

When his brothers saw him coming they said, Here s the dreamer! Let s kill him and say that a wild animal got him. But the oldest brother, Reuben, tried to protect Joseph. Let s not kill him, he said, but just throw him into this dry well. When Joseph reached them, the brothers ripped off his fine coat and threw him into the well. They just laughed at Joseph s cries for help. Genesis 37:12 24 7

As the brothers sat down to eat the food Joseph had brought, they saw a camel caravan taking spices to Egypt. One brother, Judah, said, Let s sell Joseph to those traders and not harm him. After all, he is our brother. The others agreed so they pulled Joseph out of the well and sold him to the traders, who took him away to Egypt. How much did the brothers get for Joseph? Fill in the missing letters. Choose from E, I and O. Tw nty p c s f s lv r. 8 Genesis 37:25 28

The brothers killed a goat and dipped Joseph s coat in the blood. They took the coat home to Jacob and said, We found this. Does it belong to your son? Jacob was heartbroken. Joseph has been eaten by a wild animal, he said and could not be comforted. Put the pictures in the right order to tell the story. Write numbers 1 to 4 in the bubbles. Genesis 37:29 35 9

But Potiphar s wife told lies about him. Your slave attacked me! she told her husband. Potiphar believed her and threw Joseph into prison. But God helped Joseph and the jailer was pleased with him.
