II Doctrinal Statement Bible Study A. The Personality and Trinity of the Godhead (John 14:26; 1 John 5:7) 1. In a word or phrase describe the Father s personality. 2. In a word or phrase describe the Son s personality. 3. In a word or phrase describe the Spirit s personality. 4. Explain why the plural personal pronouns are found in Genesis 1:26, 3:22 and 11:7. 5. Do you see the Trinity in John 14:16? Explain. B. The virgin birth and deity of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-35). 1. Briefly explain your concept of virgin birth. 2. Briefly describe deity as it refers to Jesus. 3. How far into the past does John 1:1-2 pre-date Jesus? 4. According to Micah 5:2, Jesus has not only existed from the beginning but from. 5. Explain the child and Son mentioned in Isaiah 9:6,7. TFC Ministry Manual Section II, Chapter 2 Doctrinal Statement Bible Study Page 2

C. The verbal inspiration of the Holy Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21). 1. In your own words define God-breathed. 2. Can you think of any passage or passages of Scripture that were given by direct dictation by God? Name them. 3. As refers to inspiration, do you know the difference between infallible and inerrant? If you answer is No, look them up now. 4. Did Christ affirm the authority of the Scriptures? Look up Matthew 5:18 and John 10:35. Find at least three other references: 5. Do you see the progression in 2 Timothy 3:15,16,17? What are you presently doing to become the man? D. Regeneration or the new birth by the Spirit of God as the only entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven (John 3:3; Titus 3:5). 1. Why should a child of God master the plan (doctrine) of salvation? 2. Do you feel comfortable walking someone through the third chapter of John and explaining to them why they must be born again? 3. According to Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:8,9, 1 Peter 2:24, and 1 Peter 3:18, is salvation of man or God? TFC Ministry Manual Section II, Chapter 2 Doctrinal Statement Bible Study Page 3

4. Have you ever tried to share this truth with a self-righteous person? What happened? 5. Is God being narrow-minded when He states this is the only way? Why could Jesus say He is the only way to the Father? See John 14:6. E. The eternal punishment of all who reject Jesus Christ and His vicarious sacrifice (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:15). 1. Do you agree with Romans 3:23? Yes No 2. If you said Yes to #1 then look up Romans 6:23. Is death there referring to eternal punishment? Yes No 3. In 23b, who or what is the gift? 4. Is it sin, or refusing the gift that sends men to hell (eternal punishment)? 5. Are there good people going to hell? Are there sinners going to heaven? F. The Holy Spirit as our source of power for service (Zechariah 4:6; Acts 1:8; Philippians 4:13). The conclusion of #5 is that we should be soul winners. Now, let s examine some Scriptures for the source of the power to accomplish this task. 1. Read John 15:5. How much can we accomplish in our own strength? 2. Read John 16:7-11 and outline the three things the Holy Spirit will reprove the world of. Explain each. TFC Ministry Manual Section II, Chapter 2 Doctrinal Statement Bible Study Page 4

G. Unity in all things essential (Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:3-7). 1. Can you recite our purpose statement? 2. Notice how Jesus taught priority at the beginning of His ministry. Matthew 6:33. What is the promise for obedience? 3. And at the end of His ministry. Matthew 28:18-20. 4. What is the difference between unity and uniformity? You may look it up in the dictionary. 5. Why does God require unity and not uniformity in His service? And in TFC? Read Psalm 133; John 17:21; Acts 2:42. H. Liberty in all things non-essential (1 Corinthians 6:12; 8:9). 1. Write out your own paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 6:12. 2. Read and compare 1 Corinthians 8 with Romans 14:1 through 15:3. 3. Find the stumbling blocks in both chapters. 4. How can we use our liberty to change stumbling blocks into stepping stones? TFC Ministry Manual Section II, Chapter 2 Doctrinal Statement Bible Study Page 5

I. In all things, the spirit of love and kindness (John 13:34, 35; Philippians 2:2-4). Someone has said, We all live in either Philippians 1:21 or 2:21. Think about it. 1. Why does Paul sandwich love between faith and hope in 1 Thessalonians 1:3 and Colossians 1:3-5? 2. Read 1 Corinthians 13 in the NIV. 3. In verses 1-3, how much can I do for God or people without love? 4. In verses 4-8a, put your name in place of love or it. Ask yourself, Do I love others like that? 5. In verse 13, you will notice the meat of the sandwich is no longer between the slices of bread. Why do you suppose God has declared love as the greatest?
