INFORMATION LEAFLET Permi tabs tablets for the preparation of external solutions potassium permanganate DO NOT PUT IN MOUTH Read all of this leaflet carefully before you start using Permi tabs tablets for solution. Keep this leaflet. It provides a summary of the information available on Permi tabs. You may need to read it again. If you have any further questions, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. Permi tabs are for external use only The information in this leaflet has been divided into the following sections: 1. What Permi tabs are 2. Before you use Permi tabs 3. How to prepare a solution of Permi tabs 4. How to use Permi tabs solution 5. How to store Permi tabs 6. Further information 1. What Permi tabs are The name of this product is Permi tabs. Permi tabs are purple flat-sided tablets for solution containing potassium permanganate 400 mg. Permi tabs provide a convenient tablet form for the preparation of solutions of potassium permanganate. 2. Before you use Permi tabs Do not touch or use Permi tabs if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to potassium permanganate.

Do not get Permi tabs near or in your eyes and avoid contact with mucous membranes (inside of mouth, nose, ear, genitals, anus) as they may cause irritation. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product; Permi tabs is harmful if swallowed. Do not use Permi tabs on unaffected skin. Stop using Permi tabs, if skin becomes dry. As Permi tabs (potassium permanganate) is a dye, do not allow the tablets or solution made from the tablets to come into contact with clothing, fabrics, etc. as it will stain. Do not use Permi tabs in a ceramic basin or bath as it will stain. 3. How to prepare a solution of Permi tabs The solution should be made up just before it is used. If the solution is left it will start to oxidise and go brown, after which time it should not be used. If you are not sure what strength of solution is required or you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. A quantity of the required strength of solution may be prepared by the following method: 1. Pour 500 ml of very warm water into a heat-resistant container. Do not use a ceramic basin as Permi tabs can stain. 2. Look at the tables below to work out how many tablets you need to make the strength of Permi tabs solution required. Please note the number of tablets will be different depending on whether you want to make a large or small volume of Permi tabs solution. To make up small volumes of Permi tabs solution: Strength of Permi tabs Solution Required Number of Tablets (to be added) to 500 ml of water 1: 12 000 1 4.2 1: 10 000 1 3.4 1: 8000 1 2.6 Volume of Water (in litres)

1: 6000 1 1.8 1: 4000 2 2.6 1: 2000 4 2.6 To make up large volumes of Permi tabs solution: Strength of Permi tabs Solution Required Number of Tablets (to be added) to 500 ml of water 1: 12 000 11 53 1: 10 000 13 52 1: 8000 16 51 1: 6000 20 48 Volume of Water (in litres) 3. Place the required number of tablets into the container of 500 ml of water from step 1. Handle the tablets as little as possible or wear gloves to avoid staining the fingers. The tablets will take a few minutes to dissolve. Stirring occasionally may help the tablets to dissolve. Once the tablets have dissolved completely you will have a concentrated solution of Permi tabs. 4. Look at the tables to work out what volume of water you need to make the strength of Permi tabs solution required. 5. Pour the required amount of warm water into a second container. Do not use a ceramic basin or bath as Permi tabs will stain them. 6. Take the 500 ml of concentrated solution of Permi tabs (from step 3) and carefully pour into the second container of warm water you have prepared in step 5. 7. The 500 ml of concentrated solution plus the volume of water indicated in the table will give the final strength of Permi tabs you need. 8. Permi tabs solution is now ready for use. 9. Always clean the container thoroughly after use. If you are not sure what strength of solution is required or you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. 4. How to use Permi tabs solution

Remember! Permi tabs are for external use only. Do not put in mouth. Directions for use 1. If you are soaking your hands or feet, you can apply petroleum jelly to your nails to prevent the Permi tabs solution staining. 2. Soak the affected area in the solution prepared earlier (see section 3. How to prepare a solution of Permi tabs ) for 10-15 minutes. 3. Then take out of the solution, pat dry with a paper towel and apply any recommended creams or dressings. 4. Discard the solution. What to do if Permi tabs is accidentally swallowed If anyone accidentally swallows Permi tabs tablets or solution wash out the mouth thoroughly with water and give plenty of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Contact your nearest accident and emergency department immediately. What to do if you get Permi tabs in your eyes Wash your eyes straight away with plenty of water for up to 15 minutes. Remove any contact lenses and open your eyes widely. Contact your nearest accident and emergency department immediately. 5. How to store Permi tabs Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Keep Permi tabs away from combustible materials. Do not mix the tablets or tablets in solution with any other substances. Always replace the cap tightly after use. Store Permi tabs in a cool, dry and well ventilated place. Protect from light. Any left over Permi tabs should not be disposed of via household waste. Ask your pharmacist on how to dispose of any Permi tabs no longer required. This will help protect the environment. Do not store Permi tabs as a solution. The solution should be made up just before it is to be used. If the solution is left, it will start to oxidise and go brown after which time it should not be used.
