Fersen Al Adra TOPIC: THE BEATITUDES TRUE HAPPINESS 1- Overhead projector: The Story of Footprints Footprints One night I had a dream-- I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord and across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints, one belonged to me and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that many times along the path of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life. This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you would walk with me all the way, but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. "I don't understand why in times when I needed you most, you should leave me." The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trial and suffering. "When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." 2- Role play: One of the leaders act the role of a girl who has everything but is very sad. 3- Discussion: - What really makes us happy? Being a good Christian, praying every night, living the love, having a loving family and nice friends, living the love, being in the heart of God always. - Do material things (like toys, parties, clothes ) give us true happiness in life? NO.

Our happiness comes from the Lord only. Things do not make us happy and should not make us happy because they do not last forever (toys will break, clothes can get rippe ). How can we say they give us happiness if they do not last forever? - Who did Jesus describe as happy? Those who are poor, sad, hungry, pure in heart, peacemakers, merciful and those who are treated badly. This is what Jesus means by the Beatitudes. Jesus wants us to be happy all the time because He loves us so much. 1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 2. Blessed are the meek (gentle): for they will inherit the world. 3. Blessed are they who mourn (cry): for they shall be comforted. 4. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst for righteousness (honesty and what is right): for they will be filled. 5. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall receive mercy. 6. Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. 7. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 8. Blessed are they that suffer persecution (maltreatment and bullying) for righteousness (what is right), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. - How do we show we are happy? By a smile, a laugh, a hug, dancing, singing, rejoicing with the Lord, listening to other people 4- Colouring activity 5- Song: To show we are happy, we are going to sing today We are going to do an instrument as well!!! Fill some rice in a balloon, blow and tie it. If you re happy and you know it CLAP YOUR HANDS (2) If you re happy and you know it and you really wanna show it If you re happy and you know it CLAP YOUR HANDS!!! Stomp your feet, Put a smile Say Fersen, Amen, Jesus, Mary, Alleluia
