Our Mission Our mission is to prepare Public Safety personnel for real-life dynamic environments by providing training in simulated situations that reflect the very latest in training concepts, facilities, resources and multidisciplinary approaches. We serve directly the people of Northeastern Wisconsin, while providing training opportunities to an audience that includes State and national professional public safety personnel.

Two Tracks To This Program... Certification most common as students wish to be state certifiable at the completion of the program. Non-certification Applied Science (Associate Degree) is granted, however state certifiability is not possible.

Certifiability Declaration By signing the student declaration to participate in the Wisconsin Department of Justice s 520-hour College Certification Track program, the student: is not guaranteed admission into certification track is not guaranteed a position in Law Enforcement will be required completion of specific conditions and requirements prior to participation and completion of the following tactical training subjects: defensive and arrest tactics, firearms, emergency vehicle operations and vehicle contacts.

Key Concepts About the Certifiable Track Students must complete core criminal justice courses within three years to become certifiable. The clock starts for a college certification track student on the first day the student enters into a core criminal justice course (i.e. Intro to Criminal Justice). If the student does not complete within three years, courses outside the window will have to be retaken. A grade of C or better must be achieved in each core course to be eligible for certifiability. Certifiability will lapse after two years if students do not obtain employment in law enforcement.

Military Requirements Recruits, pre-service and college certification track students called to active military duty, causing them to surpass the timeperiod for completion of preparatory training, may extend the time-period of completion by the amount of time that they served on active duty. College certification track students returning from active military duty after a semester who have already started, shall enroll in the next semester of training in which classes are available for their continuation in the college certification track program. In such instances, the extension shall begin on the first day of the semester in which the student re-enrolls in classes.

Military Requirements (Cont d) When such students return from active military duty and re-enroll in training, they must provide the training school with a copy of their DD214 (or DD220 for activations less than 90 days) and their call to active duty deployment notification letter. The DD214 or DD220 lists the number of days that the student was called to active military duty. When the student successfully completes training, a copy of the student s DD214 or DD220 and their call to active duty deployment notification letter must accompany their DOJ transcript submitted to the Bureau.

Potential Disqualifiers (Certification Track and/or Career) State of Wisconsin Standards & Agency Standards Felony convictions Misdemeanor arrests / drug arrests / drug testing Domestic violence crimes OWI Multiple driving offenses over last three years Driving suspensions / revocations Mental illness commitments (Under Chapter 51) Bad credit

Criminal History Check Every Student Must: Undergo a criminal history records check conducted by training school staff. A conviction for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or an unpardoned felony conviction will prohibit a student from attending the unified tactics portion of preparatory law enforcement training; therefore, prohibiting employment as a law enforcement officer.

Every Student Must: Driving Check Possess a valid Wisconsin driver s license or other valid operator s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as authorizing operation of a motor vehicle. (Wis. Admin. Code sec. LES 2.01(1)(a)).

Insurability Verification Every Student Must: Meet college insurance (DMI District Mutual Insurance) standards. If the student fails to meet the insurance standards, they: can not drive college vehicles will not meet the course objectives will not be eligible for certifiability

Additional Admission Certifiabilty Requirements Physical Assessment: A physical assessment shall be conducted to verify that the applicant can meet the physical standards required of the position (DJ-LE-332), (Wis. Admin. Code LES 2.01(1)(g)). Student Authorization for Release of Information (DJ-LE-310). Application for Employment as Law Enforcement, Jail or Secure Detention Officer (DJ-LE-330). Record of oral interview (Wis. Admin. Code LES 2.01(1)(h)). Results of criminal history records check (Wis. Admin. Code LES 2.01(1)(f)) and Wis. Admin. Code LES 2.01(1)(c)). Birth Certificate Verification (DJ-LE-322) to provide verification of the student s age (Wis. Admin. Code LES 2.01(1)(b)), to provide evidence of U.S. citizenship ( 66.0501(1), Wis. Stats.). Verification that the student has a high school diploma or has passed the general education development test or any other test recommended by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction indicating high school diploma level (Wis. Admin. Code sec. LES 2.01(1)(d)). A signed copy of the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics (Wis. Admin. Code LES 3.01(1)(d)).

All forms and DOJ certifiability requirements must be complete prior to starting any tactical courses.

Attendance Standards Excused student absences shall not exceed10% per core criminal justice course for students in the college certification track training. School directors are authorized to identify "excused" absences. School directors are expected to establish and enforce policies and procedures regarding unexcused absences. Instructional hours missed will be made up by the student completing appropriate additional assignments. Make-up assignments will be of sufficient quality to provide the student with the essential information of the instructional period missed.

Behavioral Expectations Understand and follow the College rules outlined in the student handbook (computer use, etc.) Cheating and plagiarism is not tolerated Assignments Do your own work & turn it in on time Attendance No tardiness Consider this as a job!
