4 Huron County Community Health Profile Introduction History and Development of the CHP The original Community Health Profile was an endeavor that was accomplished by the Community Health Assessment & Improvement (CHAI) Workgroup in 1999. Current Update by HCHD Since originally presented by the CHAI Workgroup in 1999, the review, assessment and update to the CHP for Huron County has since been maintained by the Huron County Health Department with update/revisions completed in 2003, 2009, 2012 and currently in 2014. Purpose of the CHP The purpose of the CHP is to assess the health status of the community and analyze state and federal research in order to identify the top priority goals to focus future strategic planning, funding and provision of care to address the top health care needs. Healthy People 2020 Healthy People is a set of goals and objectives with 10 year targets which are released by the Department of Health and Human Services each decade. They are designed to guide national health promotion and disease prevention efforts to improve the health of all the people in the United States. Thumb Rural Health Network (THRN) Established in 2006, the TRHN is a collaborative effort of six Community Hospitals and three County Public Health Departments which seek to improve comprehensive health services in Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola counties by exploring and facilitating innovative approaches with and among the network members.
5 The Michigan Behavioral Risk Factor Survey (MiBRFS) The MiBRFS is a telephone survey of the adult population of the State of Michigan that was conducted on behalf of the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) by the Office for Survey Research in Michigan State University s Institute for Public Policy and Social Research. The Thumb Behavioral Risk Factor Survey (TBRFS) The TBRFS is a telephone survey of the adult population of Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola Counties. It has been completed every five years since 2003 on behalf of the Thumb Rural Health Network. The TBRFS is designed to parallel the MiBRFS in terms of the methodology, the questions asked, the sampling, the data processing and the analysis so that the results of the TBRFS could be compared or piggybacked onto the MiBRFS. The 2013 TBRFS will compare data (when applicable) to 2003 & 2008 BRFS results in order to identify trends.
