CB HEALTHCARE

4 HEALTHCARE KMH Cardiology & Diagnostic Centres Specializing in cardiology and diagnostic services, KMH is a leading health services provider across the Ontario market. With 12 locations spread across Greater Toronto and south central Ontario, KMH is best described as a private health services provider operating in the public health space in the true spirit of a public-private partnership (P3). KMH offers valuable and accessible healthcare services relating to early detection of disease. Hy Eliasoph, Senior Vice-President of Strategy and Business Development, spoke with The Canadian Business Journal about the development of KMH s strategic partnerships with organizations in both the public and private spheres to further support patients under the publicly-funded system. We re working with the Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) and hospitals to coordinate access to services, Eliasoph detailed. We believe this collaboration will help ensure that we optimize our resources within hospitals and clinics. We re also about to launch an initiative with the Ministry of Health to look at how we can work across the system to coordinate and integrate our services with those under the jurisdiction of LHINs.

JUNE 2013 The Canadian Business Journal 5 Advanced Medical Technology KMH is on the leading edge of heart-related disease prevention, using the most advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment to support physicians and patient care. KMH not only provides the testing and diagnostic services, but also provides support for educating patients about diet and preventative lifestyle choices, in addition to sponsoring several Continuing Medical Education events for physicians every year. It speaks to KMH s continued commitment for advancing high quality patient care that it supports research efforts and invests in new technologies to seek more effective and better ways to diagnose various patient conditions. A practical, real life example of this philosophy was the recent Ministry of Health announcement to fund only state-of-the-art digital mammography screening equipment for early detection of breast cancer. KMH is well positioned to be a leader in breast screening since all of the mammography testing uses digital state of the art equipment that meets Ministry standards. We re well positioned to use our equipment, particularly now that it has been proven to be more effective than the more traditional equipment that many organizations still use, Eliasoph added. A key point of our growth strategy involves state-of-the-art equipment and Hy Eliasoph, Senior Vice-President of Strategy and Business Development available advanced technologies to give the best outcomes in terms of test results. We re seeing a greater emphasis on quality of care and the need for state-of-the-art technology, and that s very much part of our approach. Growth Strategy To further expand its services, KMH recognizes that it must continue to grow through acquisition of other clinics, an area where it has seen significant growth in the past. The efficiencies and economies of scale achieved through growth and acquisition, meaning a reduction

JUNE 2013 The Canadian Business Journal 7 And as if that wasn t enough, KMH is continually upgrading and renovating existing clinics to ensure its clinics provide comfortable and easily accessible surroundings for its patients. Fenton is a medical supply company providing a range of hospital and medical products to the health care industry. Cardiology consumables, ECG Electrodes Cardiovascular Surgical Instruments General Surgical Instruments Orthopaedic saws and Drills Surgical Clips and Appliers Blood warmers P 1-888-400-7595 E info@fentontech.ca W www.fentontech.ca in its overall cost per unit, allows KMH to best utilize the dollars available in the public healthcare system, while continuing to provide a valuable and efficient service. Currently, KMH is in the process of integrating several additional clinics in a continued expansion of its service offering, thereby allowing it to provide the complete range of diagnostic services, from X-rays, ultrasound and mammograms, through to all the cardiology diagnostic testing and the high tech imaging, including MRI and PET scanning. In addition to recent acquisitions, KMH plans to open another new clinic in south central Ontario before the end of the year. KMH continues to see significant growth, where its work as a private provider is increasingly recognized across the public health system. As such, KMH is confident that greater partnership opportunities exist in the future as it continues to work closely with the Ministry of Health and alongside hospitals, LHINs, and medical centres across Ontario. As the population ages, particularly the baby boomer generation, the need and demand for diagnostic testing and services will increase significantly, Eliasoph summarized. We re positioning ourselves to provide prevention and promotion, as well as early detection of disease so that we can treat it before it gets to be a real problem. By investing in testing and diagnostic procedures, we can identify early on the likely onset of these conditions and try to proactively manage them. We strongly believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. CB www.kmhlabs.com
