Our Value Stream Mapping Icons are made of self-sticking notes (sticky notes) for an easy mapping experience. Each Icon is characterized by a symbol as well as its name, so that participants who are new to the method can quickly understand and work with the symbols. Below you find an overview of all recommended icons for Production Environments categorized in: Process Flow Materia Flow Information & Scheduling Evaluation PROCESS FLOW Process Work Cell = = Incoming Documents/ Orders Folder/ Order IN 1 Unit PROCESS BOX Describes a process, operation, machine or department with a continuous flow of material (production) or information (office). WORK CELL U-shaped work area that indicates that multiple processes are integrated in a manufacturing work cell to accommodate efficient work flow. INCOMING DOCUMENTS/ ORDERS The icon represents an information queue and indicates inventory. FOLDER/ ORDER A single unit of work. PROCESS FLOW Datenkasten Customer/ Supplier Folders/ Orders Units DATA BOX Data Box for collecting significant information, data, metrics of a process required for analyzing and observing the system. 50 sticky notes, format A6 portrait. CUSTOMER/ SUPPLIER Customers or suppliers of a value stream. FOLDERS/ ORDERS Multiple units of work. Seite 1

I Inventory PUSH INVENTORY Amount of inventory/ work residing between processes. PUSH ARROW This icon represents a push of information or material from one process to another. A process produces something regardless of the downstream needs. Withdrawal (Pull) KAIZEN BLITZ Icon to characterize necessary process improvements at a specific process, which is critical to achieve the future state map. WITHDRAWAL (PULL) Supermarkets connect to downstream processes with this pull icon that indicates physical removal. MATERIAL FLOW Material/ Paper Flow MATERIAL-/ PAPER FLOW The icon represents material or paper flow from supplier to process or from process to customer. MATERIAL FLOW Max. = FIFO-Lane FIFO-LANE Indicates a method to limit quantity and assure First-In-First- Out sequence of material between processes. Pitch Board Load Leveling Box LOAD LEVELING BOX A physical device that holds work based on volume and variety. LOAD LEVELING (QUANTITY & TYPE) To balance the volume and variety of work for a period of time. Seite 2

Withdrawal-Kanban WITHDRAWAL-KANBAN A card that instructs a material handler or operator to physically transfer parts from a supermarket to the receiving process. Signal-Kanban S SIGNAL-KANBAN This icon is used whenever the inventory levels in the supermarket between two processes drops to a trigger or minimum point. When a Triangle Kanban arrives at a supplying process, it signals a changeover and production of a predetermined batch size of the part noted on the Kanban. It is also referred as "one-per-batch" Kanban. Batch-Kanban BATCH-KANBAN KANBAN, work units delivered to a process in a batch indicating batch processing. PRODUCTION-KANBAN A card that triggers production of a pre-defined number of parts. It signals a supplying process to provide parts to a downstream process. Kanban-Post KANBAN-POST This icon represents a location for Kanban signal pickup. portrait. BUFFER INVENTORY A temporary inventory stock reserved for specific circumstances. portrait. Supermarket SUPERMARKET A supermarket contains inventory available to downstream customers enabling them to select what they need. TRANSPORT BY TRUCK portrait.
