Application information M.S. Program in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology Thank you for your interest in the M.S. Program in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology at San Jose State. If you have not done so already, please read our brochure (http://psych.sjsu.edu/grad/io/io_brochure.pdf) to learn more about the program as well as applicant eligibility requirements. Please note that you must submit separate application materials to both the Psychology Department and the SJSU Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations (GAPE) Office (see below). It is your responsibility to gather the application materials listed below, submit them by the appropriate deadlines, and insure that these materials have been received and processed. To apply to the MS Program in I/O Psychology, you must complete steps (A), (B), and (C) below:: (A) Submit the following materials directly to the Psychology Department: 1. Application Cover Sheet. 2. Checklist of Application Materials. 3. Official transcripts of college academic work relevant to I/O psychology. If possible, please send your transcripts in unopened (sealed) envelopes, as this will help us address transcript-related issues that might occur with GAPE. On the Application Cover Sheet, indicate whether you ve included the transcript with your application or if it will be mailed to the Psychology Department by your college. 4. A professional resume or curriculum vitae detailing your educational background, work experience, relevant activities, and accomplishments. 5. A 1-2 page single-spaced statement of purpose, describing your experiences and interests related to I/O Psychology, your educational and career goals both within and beyond graduate school, your reasons for pursuing graduate education at San Jose State, and your expected employment status (i.e., full-time, part-time) during your first year of graduate school. 6. Three letters of recommendation (use attached form) in signed and sealed envelopes. On the Application Cover Sheet, please indicate for each letter whether you ve included the letter with your application or if it will be submitted to the Psychology Department by the letter writer 7. A photocopy of ETS Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Aptitude test scores (we do not require the Advanced Test in Psychology) please send an official report of your scores to SJSU (institutional code is 4687) Once you ve gathered the above materials, mail them together in one envelope no later than February 1st to the address below: M.S. Program in I/O Psychology Department of Psychology (DMH 157) One Washington Square San Jose, CA 95192-0120 If you re unable to send transcripts, letters of recommendation or GRE scores by the February 1st deadline, please mail the rest of the materials to the Psychology Department and indicate on the Checklist of Application Materials when the remaining materials will be sent - late or incomplete applications cannot be considered for admission until all materials have been received. After the February 1st deadline, you will receive an email from the Psychology Department confirming that your application to the I/O Program has been received and whether it is complete; if you do not receive this email by February 15th, please feel free to call the Psychology Department at (408) 924-5600 regarding the status of your application.

(B) Submit the following materials directly to the Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluation (GAPE) Office (http://www.sjsu.edu/gape/prospective_students/): 1. Online University Graduate Application (http://www.csumentor.edu/admissionapp/grad_apply.asp). The deadline to submit this application is February 1st. 2. Application processing fee. The application fee is nonrefundable, even if you withdraw your application or if your application is denied. The fee cannot be used for any year or semester other than the one indicated on the submitted application. You can pay the fee by credit card when you submit the application online. You can also indicate on the application that you will pay the fee by check; however, because GAPE will not process your application until the fee is received, you need to send a check immediately after submitting the application and before sending other supporting materials to GAPE. If the fee is not received, GAPE may withdraw your application. 3. Official transcripts of relevant college academic work. You must submit official transcripts from institutions attended, including those from which you did not complete a degree program. All transcripts must be sealed and unopened in order to be accepted as official documents. If you are currently enrolled and have not yet received an undergraduate degree, please submit your most recent transcript (if you are admitted into the I/O program, you must submit a final transcript after graduation in order to avoid delays in the admissions process). If you are sending transcripts from institutions outside of the U.S., you must submit them to WES (World Education Services) (http://www.wes.org/students/index.asp); this does not apply to students who completed the coursework as part of a study abroad program while earning a degree in the U.S. Please see http://www.sjsu.edu/gape/prospective_students/domestic/ for more details. If you received your undergraduate degree at an institution outside of the U.S., you must submit (1) your transcripts to WES and (2) a TOEFL score (if the primary language of instruction was not English - see below for more information). 4. California residency questionnaire and supporting documents (optional). All students intending to pay resident tuition must provide documentation of physical presence and intent to remain in California at least one full year prior to the Residence Determination Date for the applied term. Please submit the Residency Questionnaire (http://www.sjsu.edu/gape/docs/residency_questionnaire.pdf); for additional information, go to http://www.sjsu.edu/gape/prospective_students/residency/. 5 Legal Presence (non-citizens only). If you are not a U.S. citizen, you must provide a photocopy of your current visa. If you have an H-4 visa, please provide a photocopy of your dependent/affiliated H-1 visa. If you are a legal immigrant, you will need to provide a photocopy of your green card. The supporting materials in steps 3-5 (transcripts and documents) must be mailed no later than March 1st to this address: Graduate Admissions and Evaluations (GAPE) Student Services Center (SCC) One Washington Square San Jose, CA 95192-0017

(C) Include the following materials with your GAPE application (international applicants only): In addition to the materials listed above, international applicants must submit the following materials to the GAPE office (for more information, please see International Applicants: How to Apply at http://www.sjsu.edu/gape/prospective_students/international/): 1. International Mark sheets and Degree Certificates. If you have completed a degree in an institution outside of the U.S., you must submit your mark sheets/transcripts to WES (World Education Services) for evaluation (please see http://www.wes.org/students/index.asp or http://www.wes.org/fees/icap.asp). Additional information can be found at Submit Documents or Test Scores to SJSU at http://www.sjsu.edu/gape/prospective_students/international/. 2. TOEFL score (570 or higher (paper based), 240 or higher (computer based), or 90 or higher (internet based)), IELTS score (7 or higher), or Pearson s score (68 or higher). One of these scores is required of all students graduating from a higher education institution outside of the U.S. where the primary language of instruction is not English. All test scores must be less than 2 years old and sent directly from the ETS office (SJSU institution code is 4687). In addition, please submit a photocopy of your test scores with your application to the Department of Psychology. The TOEFL requirement can be waived if you meet one of the following conditions: * you have received a BS or MS degree from an accredited U.S. institution, or * you have completed 72 semester units or 108 quarter units in a U.S. institution, or * you have completed 3 years of full-time study in a U.S. institution. 3. Declaration of Finance. Please complete and submit the Declaration of Finance form (http://www.sjsu.edu/gape/docs/declaration_of_finance.pdf); see http://www.sjsu.edu/global/howto-apply/graduate-admission/index.html#estimated_costs for the current amount. To all applicants: * * * * * Please remember that it is your responsibility to gather your application materials (including transcripts and letters of recommendation) and submit them to the appropriate offices by the current deadlines. IMPORTANT: In terms of your university application, after you have submitted all supporting materials to GAPE, please check your to do list frequently to insure your university application status is complete and contact GAPE in case of any delays in their processing of your application. Also, please contact the Psychology Department if GAPE has not received your transcripts even though your Psychology department application has been received and is complete. Applicants meeting the minimum requirements will be evaluated and selected on the basis of their application materials (please see the M.S. I/O Program description for more information). Unfortunately, due to a limited number of spaces available, not all students meeting the minimum requirements can be selected. We expect to begin notifying applicants of their application status by the middle of March. Thank you again for your interest in the I/O program at San Jose State.
