DENTAL ASSISTING Fall 2017 Admissions Information * * * Deadline: February 16, 2017 * * * Dental Assisting is a one-year Diploma curriculum that begins each fall semester. It is a limited enrollment program in which applicants must meet minimum requirements by the specific deadline date to be considered for admission. Please note that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Your official program of study while working on pre-requisites for the Dental Assisting program is Associate in General Education (AGE). AGE is an Associate degree program for students who are interested in pursuing a program of study in general education. This curriculum provides an introduction to the liberal arts and enables the student to tailor the program beyond that point to meet their personal needs and interests. Once you have been selected into the Dental Assisting program, the Admissions Office will change your major. If you are not selected, you are welcome to update your Limited Enrollment status and continue taking classes in AGE or change you major to a non-limited enrollment program. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements must meet with an Admissions Officer for completion of a Dental Assisting Minimum Admissions Requirements (MAR) review. This must be completed by the deadline date, February 16, 2017. Applicants denied admission must re-apply, and complete a new MAR and Ranking if they wish to be considered for the Fall 2018 program. APPLICATION PROCESS: The following steps must be completed by February 16, 2017. 1. Submit the GTCC Application to Enrollment Services. 2. Take the GTCC placement test, if required by the Admissions Office. 3. Submit official high school transcript or GED scores to Enrollment Services. (Official transcripts are sealed in an envelope and have the school's seal or original signature). 4. Submit official transcripts from all colleges or schools attended since high school to Enrollment Services. These will be reviewed for possible transfer credit. THIS PROCESS COMPLETES THE ADMISSIONS FILE. IT IS UP TO YOU TO MAKE SURE YOUR FILE IS COMPLETE. 1

Students may have a grade of D in a general education course and still enter and graduate from the Dental Assisting program. However, a grade of D in a general education course will not transfer to another institution, nor will GTCC accept a grade of D in a general education course for credit from another institution. If a student earns a grade of D in BIO 106 prior to acceptance into the program, the student must repeat and successfully complete the course with a grade of C or better. If a student is accepted into the Dental Assisting program while enrolled in the repeated course, official acceptance is contingent upon successful completion by the end of the spring semester. You will be notified by mail if your acceptance has been revoked. As health care providers, the primary professional obligation is service to the public. Patients have the right to expect and receive quality care regardless of his/her circumstance and medical condition. All students in the dental programs at GTCC will be expected to adhere to this philosophy. Infection control guidelines in the dental department have been developed to protect the student and the patient from disease transmission. All students in the dental programs at GTCC will be expected to adhere to this philosophy. A student in the dental program is at an increased risk for exposure to a variety of diseases, among them Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Because of these risks, students will be expected to follow all infection control/exposure control guidelines that have been established.
