6. ESTATE PLANNING DETAILS If a person dies whilst resident in France, French inheritance law applies to the deceased s worldwide movable assets and his real estate situated in France. French inheritance tax applies to his worldwide estate subject to the effect of any double tax treaty. If a person dies resident outside France, the incidences of French succession law are confined to assets situated in France subject to any double estate duty treaty. Certain precautions may be taken to ensure that French inheritance law does not negate a person s wishes.
