Hassan (25) from Morocco Hassan has a 4-year Bachelor s degree in Economics He wants to continue his studies to strenghten his chances on the job market He has decided to apply for admission to a master s program in Economics He knows English, but has not learned Norwegian yet 10
Hassan has to: Find the specific requirements for the programme to which he wishes to apply Pass one of the approved tests in English He must then either: Apply to an English taught programme without passing a test in Norwegian Or: Apply for a Norwegian taught programme after passing one of the approved tests in Norwegian 11
Khalil (35) from Bangladesh Holds a 3-year bachelor s degree in Marketing and Business Administration from Bangladesh. He is fluent in English and has a limited knowledge of Norwegian He wants to apply for a relevant master s programme 12
Khalil has to: Apply for admission to a bachelor s program in Norway because his bachelor s degree is too short Pass tests in Norwegian and English He can: Apply to the university for recognition of his former education once he is offered a study place 13
Recognition of previous education (transfer credits) If you have partly completed your studies, you may be able to use your credits in a Norwegian degree: First apply for admission to a study programme Then after admission: Apply for recognition of your previous education directly to the Faculty For transfer credits to be accepted, they must fit your study programme. 14
Khalil applied for credit transfer: Credits for one year of his previous education was transferred to his new programme He finished his Norwegian bachelor s degree in only two years, instead of three He is now ready to apply for admission to a master s programme 15
Application period Application period, Master s programme: Non EU/EEA international applicants: From 1 November till 1 December. EU/EEA applicants and applicants with a permanent or renewable residence permit in Norway: From 1 February till 1 March. Nordic citizens: From 1 February till 15 April. Admission to single courses You may apply for admission to single courses at the UiA without having been admitted to a programme of study. Most of the courses are taught in Norwegian. However some are taught in English. These courses are 5-30 credits. 1 July a list of courses will be published at www.uia.no/enkeltemne Application period, single courses: 1 August till 25 August 17
How to apply single courses 1. Register an application 1 July a list of available courses will be published at www.uia.no/enkeltemne You apply in the online application system Søknadsweb. It is open for applications from 1 August. The application deadline is 25. august. 2. Step 2: Registering for courses and semester fee payment The deadline for registration is 1 February 2016. You must pay the semester fee and copy fee by 1 September 2016. 18
Admission requirement for single courses Undergraduate courses: Undergraduate courses in English are open for those who meet the general admission requirement but do not have proficiency in the Norwegian language. NOKUT has compiled a list of general admission requirements for Norwegian universities/higher education for applicants with foreign education: The GSU list. Courses at master s levels: The admission reqirements for courses at master s level are the same as those for the study programme to which the courses belong.
