A GUIDE TO KAHRAMANMARAŞ SÜTÇÜ İMAM UNIVERSITY FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

ABOUT KSU KSU, founded in 1992, has attained a contemporary profile via perpetually keeping up with the times and developing itself and adopted showing constant efforts with a view to achieving and maintaining higher education standards as a principle. Our university has showed an outstanding progress with its 10 faculties, 4 schools, 3 graduate schools, 8 vocational schools, 5 Rectorate affiliated departments, 15 research centres, over 30.000 students, approximately 1200 academic staff and 830 administrative staff. Directing its education policies in accordance with the changing demands and needs of the society, our university possesses a physical structure comprised of Avşar Campus (Rectorate, Rectorate Affiliated, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Forestry and Faculty of Agriculture, School of Foreign Languages, School of Physical Education and Sports), Bahçelievler Campus (Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Theology, School of Health Services, Kindergarten, indoor sports hall and health centre); Karacasu Campus (Vocational Schools). On the Avşar Campus, which has a modern view resulting from infrastructure and environment planning, it is aimed at providing the best service to the students with smart classes and lecture theatres (seating 140-250), conference halls (seating 250-300), well equipped labs, sports facilities, internet halls, libraries and student cafeterias. Smart classes are available in all faculties, schools, graduate and vocational schools. Lectures are supported visually with video projectors assembled in classes and computers with LCD screens which are mounted into the professorship chairs designed by Directorate of Computing and Department of Informatics.

KSU has recognised contributing to well-educated individuals as its main purpose with the intention of creating a productive and contemporary society with its pre-eminent academic staff and rapidly increasing education quality since its foundation year. The central library with its rich collection caters for advocating our university s education and research facilities, meeting the needs of students and academic staff stemming from their academic programme and scientific research. The collection includes almost 50.000 books, 743 published journals, 1630 postgraduate theses and 22 electronic databases. In addition, one of the founders of Turkish Historical Society, Ord. Prof. Mükrimin Halil Yinanç, donated a part of his library subsuming printed works on history, culture and literature in French, Old Turkish (Ottoman Turkish), Farsi and Arabic to our university in 2009 and following the necessary classifications, it has brought into service for the researchers. The following are the other facilities provided to its students: advisory, health, food and drink, transportation, accommodation, cafeteria, banking, cultural centres, internet, laboratory and sports facilities. They are also supported by education loans and scholarship. The mission of KSU is to meet the needs of the age, to become one of the respected universities in its region with its education, research and inventions. The vision of KSU is to accomplish the inventions of high quality, to raise individuals with the appropriate ethics and scientific education, to strengthen the collaboration among university, industry and community, to play a role in the future of our country, region and city, and to fulfil the requirements of being an international institution.

In order to develop the collaboration among university, industry and society; and contribute the culture of innovativeness, entrepreneurship; Research and Development Centre for University-Industry-Public Relations (ÜSKİM), Technology Development Centre (TEKMER) and TEKNOPARK were founded. KSU provides dormitories for 1000 students at Avşar, 1500 students at Karacasu, 750 students in Elbistan, 180 students in Afşin and 300 students in Göksun Campuses. Atatürk Culture and Sports Centre, designed for meeting the needs of the students and staff, consists of a fitness centre, ballroom, conference hall and administrative offices. The sport complex provides service with amphitheatre, 2 small football pitches, 4 basketball, 1 tennis and 4 volleyball courts. In addition, a gym for 1500 person capacity and a stadium for 5000 person capacity are still under construction. Our students and the inhabitants of Kahramanmaraş are served not only in the field of educational activities, but also in the field of social and cultural activities by K.S.U. Among them, conferences, symposiums, celebrations and spring festivals are of highly appreciated importance.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS OFFICE CENTRE FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University was awarded with Erasmus University Charter in 2004 and the programme has been implemented in various departments of the university since then to promote the exchange of cultural, knowledge and experience with the higher education institutions in Europe. Being one of the twelve centres for distance education in Turkey, KSU Centre for Distance Education, Application and Research aims to attain the international quality in distance education practices and to raise qualified individuals equipped with required knowledge and skills to be employed in public and private organizations and to attain a high status among the institutions offering distance education at national and international levels. FACULTIES Faculty of Agriculture Affiliated to Gaziantep University in 1987, Faculty of Agriculture started its education admitting its first students to the Department of Field Crops for Academic Year 1988-1989. It was adhered to Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University in January 1993. The faculty aims to conduct scientific research, to offer education and to publish academic works in the scope of agriculture. It also aims to conduct agricultural research at both local and national levels in the province it is located. Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Founded in 1992, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences started its education with student admission to the Department of Business for Academic Year 1993-1994. With the aim of interdisciplinary collaborative research and development under the light of creative and independent thought, the faculty primarily aims to raise conscious, self confident, genuine and collaborative individuals who are equipped with international knowledge, skills and capacity to be able to meet the all needs of public and private institutions and to encourage the faculty members as well as graduate students attending various second and third cycle degree programmes to conduct scientific research in these fields. Faculty of Medicine Health Application and Research Hospital Faculty of Medicine aims to raise doctors who can provide protective, therapeutic and rehabilitative healthcare services through their accumulation of scientific knowledge with good communication skills with both their colleagues and patients respecting ethical values, who are able to adopt the biopsychosocial model in treating their patients, who are able to employ practice of evidence-based medicine, who aim to contribute to accumulation of universal knowledge through their scientific research and who will have a voice in the production of health policies to create a healthier society. The faculty offers service in KSU Health Research and Application Hospital and its students do their internship in this hospital. Basic Medical Sciences Internal Medical Surgical Sciences Entering into service in a building taken from the Directorate of Health at Bahçelievler campus in 1997, Health Application and Research Hospital has offered health care services in all branches on the main campus since its foundation in 2013. The hospital with an area of 110.000 m2 has the largest closed area among the hospitals located in the city of Kahramanmaraş. It is comprised of 5 polyclinics, 7 dorm blocks, 23 pediatric intensive care units, 6 surgery rooms, a conference hall and an administrative building. The following are the specialised units of the hospital that provides health care services: Andrologia Obesity IVF Unit Pharmacovigilance Medical Oncology Radiation Oncology Nuclear Medicine The hospital also has the largest Intensive Care Unit in the province in terms of inpatient bed availability. Elbistan Technology Faculty Founded in 2012, Elbistan Technology Faculty is preparing for student admission to its first cycle degree (BA) programmes in three departments.
