Our Unique Monitoring Approach At Remote DBA Experts we take a disciplined, comprehensive and systematic approach to everything we do. And Mopsus reflects that philosophy. Mopsus is the name of our exclusive Proactive Monitoring Infrastructure designed to enable Remote DBA Experts to proactively predict, analyze and prevent database availability and performance problems. This capability allows us to do much more than just monitor databases, Mopsus enables us to deliver much more than just monitors and charts because it allows us to perform in-depth predictive analysis on key database environment indicators to prevent problems "Like No One Else." Proactive Monitoring Infrastructure Our PMI includes all the assets and capabilities used to enable, manage, and support the most proactive monitoring approach in the industry. Mopsus is composed of the following six key elements: The Proactive Monitoring Process ; a set of Critical Monitoring Parameters ; a GroundWork Monitoring System; a Predictive Algorithm Engine ; our Proactive Monitoring Center ; and our Proactive Analytics Set. The diagram in the figure above shows how these six elements are integrated to create a holistic systematic approach that is designed to provide a robust and unique monitoring capability. The sections that follow describe each of the infrastructure elements in more detail. Proactive Monitoring Process Our PMP consists of five key steps shown in the following figure. The following is a brief description of each of the steps. 1 Remote DBA Experts, LLC

Identify Customers Unique Monitoring Requirements Personnel from Remote DBA Experts' integration and monitoring teams work with customers to design and implement a monitoring strategy to fit each customer's unique monitoring requirements. Identify Critical Monitoring Parameters The next step is to take the monitoring requirements document produced in Step 1 to identify the most important database environmental parameters to monitor. There are literally thousands of indicators to choose from. The monitoring requirements document allows the monitoring specialists from the Proactive Monitoring Center to choose those key indicators that will provide the monitoring output required to predict and prevent database issues from occurring. Develop monitoring thresholds, goals and objectives Once the CMP's are selected, step three establishes, thresholds, goals and objectives for each of the selected parameters. Develop Proactive Monitoring Strategy Once the threshold goals and objectives are set, a data capture, storage, analysis and preventative process strategy is designed to accomplish the goals and objectives. Implement, monitor and adjust the strategy as necessary The monitoring strategy that best fits each customer's unique monitoring needs is then implemented. Monitors get installed, and monitoring and data collection starts. Database application environments are wonderfully complex and dynamic. Since many things can change, our Proactive Monitoring Center s specialists monitor the strategy's effectiveness relative to the goals and make adjustments as necessary to ensure continuous alignment. 2 Remote DBA Experts, LLC

Critical Monitoring Parameters Monitoring parameters are chosen for each server and instance of the databases under our control. Proactive Monitoring Center specialists carefully select the parameters according to a proprietary process designed to identify those critical indicators that help us best predict and prevent availability and performance problems. The selected parameters are monitored and the data returned from these monitoring checks are fed into our patent-pending Predictive Algorithm Engine. The diagram below shows how the CMPs relate to the servers and instances when applicable. GroundWork Monitoring Architecture The open-source-based system is used by hundreds of large and small organizations across the globe. It is based on the Nagios open source architecture and it provides us with a powerful and flexible capability to power our unique approach. The following diagram is a broad description of the architecture of the system. Because Nagios is based on open source code, a large community of developers provides significant resources compared to purely commercial systems. Because of the sheer number of plug-ins generated by the development community, specialists from Remote DBA Expert's Proactive Monitoring Center review new monitoring plug-ins that become available on a regular basis. Remote DBA Experts' personnel also contribute plug-ins designed to improve the organization's ability to provide a superior level of monitoring to its customers. 3 Remote DBA Experts, LLC

Predictive Algorithm Engine problems and take proactive action to prevent their occurrence. The PAE is the most critical element of proactive infrastructure. This unique feature is designed using advanced mathematics and statistics. Its main function is to house the proprietary predictive algorithms that enable Remote DBA Experts to "forecast" availability and performance Proactive Monitoring Center of DBAs being reactive instead of proactive. Daily support requests and problem solving often overwhelm DBA groups. Understaffing, over-commitment to supporting new applications, lack of repeatable processes and budgetary constraints are the most common causes The reactive DBA can be compared to a firefighter; they resolve problems only after the problem occurs. The biggest problems garner the most attention. The reactive DBA's time is dominated by these by firefighting activities, reducing the amount of time they are able to spend implementing the process and procedures required to switch their mode from reactive firefighter to proactive problem prevention. Remote DBA Experts understands that the effective monitoring of critical database indicators is THE critical component of any remote support strategy. Remote DBA Experts' dedicates personnel who are 4 Remote DBA Experts, LLC

responsible for creating, implementing and enhancing a strategic blueprint for the proactive monitoring and trouble-shooting required to prevent database problems before they occur. Since the proactive support blueprint is already in place, companies employing Remote DBA Experts to support their databases do not have to spend the additional monies required to create a proactive support environment. Proactive Analytics In addition to our predictive algorithms, Remote DBA Experts has also designed created a set of industryleading analytical tools and analytical, investigative approaches that enable proactivity further. These proprietary analytical tools provide graphical ways to look at monitoring data to discern patterns and relationships that can tell us a lot. Thanks for taking time to read our paper!
