Key initiatives Protective Glazing Protection against manmade and natural disasters is a key concern for today s owners, specifiers, architects and contractors. Tremco s structural silicone glazing bonds glass to a curtain wall s structural framing members, transferring dynamic wind loads and impact from the glass through the structural silicone sealant to the curtain wall framing. The structural silicone sealants, which have been tested with major curtain wall and window manufacturers in North America, provide the excellent adhesion, tensile strength and flexibility critical to withstanding wind cycle loads and missile impacts. The industry s most stringent performance standards have been either met or exceeded for hurricane, impact and blast resistance. Sustainable Design/Building The environmental impact of buildings is becoming increasingly more apparent every day. Tremco Global Sealants is committed to providing sustainable design/building solutions which achieve economic, social and environmental balance. We are working to provide superior solutions that will incorporate sustainable and high performance strategies and systems taking into consideration the entire building life cycle while minimizing their impact on the environment. Dedicated to being at the leading edge of the sustainable design/building movement, Tremco Global Sealants has committed itself to developing a complete sustainable technologies program with a dedicated manager of sustainable technology, innovative product offerings, and comprehensive technical resources. By having a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional (AP) on staff, one of only a handful in the manufacturing segment, Tremco is able to help customers facilitate sustainable design and LEED application documents by providing the knowledge and guidance necessary for implementation. A

database of LEED, Energy Star and other documentation for all Tremco products is maintained and is readily accessible on the Web site at www.tremcosealants.com to facilitate LEED submittals. Green Roofs Few products provide as comprehensive a solution to as broad a range of concerns and issues as green roofs. Cities are struggling to cope with growth and economic development. Combined sewage overflow systems in 900 cities and towns across the U.S. are overwhelmed by excess stormwater runoff, releasing untreated water to surface water bodies. Rainwater itself is often contaminated with a wide range of airborne contaminants from hydrocarbons to VOCs, pesticides and heavy metals. Urban areas maintain ambient temperatures as much as 10º F. higher than surrounding or rural areas, increasing cooling loads of all buildings, energy consumption and the creation of harmful smog. Green roofs can provide a solution to these problems. They effectively reduce stormwater runoff, prolong roof life, improve the energy performance of buildings and cut peak electricity demand, improve air quality, improve urban ecology and even reduce noise. Tremco has developed a cost-effective, high performance green roof system to help encourage building owners to consider this environmentally responsible building strategy. Air Barriers Air leakage is an extremely efficient means of transporting moisture. As hot, humid air contacts colder surfaces/temperatures condensation occurs and moisture accumulates, creating a potential breeding ground for mold, mildew and other airborne organisms. The control of air leakage and the resulting moisture accumulation can help prevent structural damage. In addition, controlling air leakage also improves the indoor air quality of a building and provides significant energy efficiencies since it is estimated that air leakage can account for as much as 40 percent of a structure s heat loss/gain. Tremco offers an air and vapor permeable or impermeable barrier system to accommodate different air and moisture control requirements. These systems have been thoroughly tested to meet or exceed the most rigorous standards for air permeability, ensuring extended building durability and energy efficiency. Firestopping Firestopping, or passive fire protection, is designed to contain fire and smoke from infiltrating the rest of the building. Installed during construction, firestopping, in the event of a fire, saves lives and property by containing damaging flames and gasses. Required by commercial building codes such as the International Building Code, firestopping systems are tested at independent laboratories to ensure proper fire ratings. Tremco offers intumescent products sealants and devices that expand when exposed to fire to close off annular spaces or openings in fire walls, preventing the spread of smoke and fire. Residential Barrier Solutions Barrier Solutions for the residential building envelope are the practical application of the science and technology behind building science to control the movement of moisture, heat and gas throughout the structure. Leveraging the technical capability, experience and innovation gained over 20 years in the residential foundation waterproofing industry, Tremco Barrier Solutions will bring to market other systems that will provide energy savings, moisture control and increased satisfaction to builders and homeowners alike. One of these innovations is the Above-Grade Foundation Finishing System, which incorporates seamless waterproofing protection from footer to sill plate while insulating the exposed above-grade portion of the foundation wall an area that accounts for as much as 40% of a home s energy loss.
