SYLLABUS Jr. High Girl Bible-Character Quest 2014-2015 Teacher: Mrs. Marjorie Pitts Telephone: 892-8500 Ext. 1041 Email: marjorie.pitts@cincinnatichristian.org Course Description: Character Quest is a two-semesters series of lessons designed for junior high students. The course opens with an introductory chapter on why the issue of character is important. Seventeen character traits are then presented so that students study seventeen traits based on Biblical perspective. The final chapter of the course provides a review and summary. Each character trait is the topic of study for one week during which students engage in a variety of creative experiences including a study of Scripture, definitions and descriptions. Students will study the importance of the trait, the cautions regarding its negative counterpart, and practical applications to everyday living. The author as well as I has one single desire for the students: that they may know the words and works of God. Gaining a true understanding of the nature of God will lead students to that wonderful sense of awe of His magnificent character. Students can be transformed from within as they cooperate with the Holy Spirit, whose job it is to conform believers to the image of Jesus Christ. To this end the course is dedicated. Units of Study: Unit I: Building Character through Love, Wisdom, and Obedience What does John 3:3 means where Jesus answered Nicodemus Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God? Have you been born again and do you have a relationship with God? What is your definition of Character? Why does the Bible emphasize that true character can come only from God? What does the statement He (God) alone is good, and all good and perfect gifts come from God? Why is salvation only through God s Son Jesus Christ? What is the difference between Agape Love and Human Love? What is a Biblical example of Agape Love? What is Conditional love?

If Christ-like love were true in every Christian life, how would it make a difference in our relationship with others? Is there a difference between knowledge and wisdom? Where does wisdom ultimately come from and who can get wisdom? What was Jesus age and what is significant about Him being in the Temple at that age? What is procrastination? Why is delayed obedience really disobedience? How can partial obedience really be disobedience? Unit 2: Building Character: Building Blocks 4-6(Courage, Attentiveness & faith). Why is the basis of our courage found in the Word of God? How can Christians learn that courage increases when they learn to face their fears in the strength of the Lord rather than run from them? According to Judges Chapters 6 & 7 was Gideon courageous? What are some of the inner tests of courage students have to face? Why is Attentiveness the first step to success? How does spiritual inattention affects many Christians? How can giving God most of our attention be done? In Matthew 23:1-4; 23, 24, 25, 26. What did Jesus say about the Pharisees? How does Matthew passages compare with Luke 6:41-42? What are the seven reasons to read and study your Bible? What are the Fundamental Facts on Faith? How do you define Faith or what is your definition of Faith? What is walking faith? (Living Faith) How can one extend and enrich their understanding of faith? Unit 3: Building Character: Building Block 7-9 (Responsibility, Joyfulness, and Honesty) What is responsibility and some of its characteristics? How does the Bible describes responsibility should be shown in a believer s life? What are the two types of responsibilities described in Chapter 7? How can students or Christians respond to both types of responsibilities? Why is Micah 6:8 so important for Christians? What is joy and what brings joy to our lives? Why are happy and happen related in meaning? What is Joy from a Biblical perspective? How can Christians practice joy and be instrumental in bringing joy to others? What is the Biblical definition of Honesty? Why are there consequences of dishonesty?

Why is lying and stealing very serious sins and how does honesty extends to both our relationships and our words? Why does the Bible say Satan the father of lies? Why honesty is the best policy important to remember as a youth/adult? How can a person (Christian) learn to break the habit of dishonesty? Unit 4: Building Blocks 10-12: Thankfulness, Self-control, and Loyalty Why is it so important for us to have an attitude of Gratitude toward God and others for their benefits to us? What three benefits result from expressing thanks? What are the three principles to remember in order to develop an attitude of thankfulness? What are the five steps to developing more self-control? Why should we not be loyal to someone who is doing wrong? Why is self-control essential to success in life? Unit 5: Character Building Blocks 13-15: Humility, Confidence, and Orderliness. What is the Biblical definition for Humility? Why is humility the opposite of pride? How can you describe Jesus Christ as the greatest example of humility? Who are some people in the Bible that showed they had confidence in God? The rebellion of Satan is revealed in Isaiah 14:12-15. What are the five I will statements of Satan recorded in that passage?
