Publication Number: M-248 Publication Title: Publications of the National Archives, 1935- Date Published: n.d. PUBLICATIONS OF THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES, 1935- was established as an independent agency in 1934 to hold in trust for the American people a vast information resource of the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of the Federal Government. In 1949 it was transferred to the new General Services Administration, where it became the National Archives and Records Service. This service included the Office of Records and Information Management, Federal Records Centers, Presidential Libraries, and the Federal Register, as well as the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. In 1985 the agency again became independent as the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Reproduced on this microfilm publication are various printed materials produced by the Archives from 1935 forward. These include publication series, such as guides, references information papers, preliminary inventories, special lists, exhibit books, conference material, and annual reports.
