Hamilton County 2012-2013 Microenterprise Program SUMMARY OF PROGRAM Purpose: This grant program targets qualified microenterprises to create job opportunities for low- to moderate-income residents. A microenterprise is defined as a business with five or fewer employees, one (or more) of whom is the owner. Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be the owner of a microenterprise located in Hamilton County or be seeking assistance with starting a business in Hamilton County. The applicant must meet ONE of the following income/job creation requirements: The owner s annual income is below the 2013 low- to moderate-income limit for Hamilton County. The business will create at least one job that will be made available to someone from a low- to moderate-income household. The applicant must be planning an investment in working capital, equipment and inventory purchases or have other documented business needs (excluding construction). The applicant must be able to contribute a minimum of 10% of the total cost of the project as cash equity. At least 51% of the awards will be made to businesses that have been operational for less than 6 months. As part of this program, applicants will be required to complete a small business institute entrepreneur course at no charge to the applicant. Construction and renovation are NOT eligible uses of funds under this program. Grants are available for a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $35,000 but cannot exceed 90% of the total cost of the project. The Hamilton County Industrial Development Agency board reserves the right to offer grant awards in the amount they see fit. If the business training and/or applicable job creation goals are not met by December 2013, the business owner will be required to repay the grant. Monday, February 25, 2012 for Round 1 of funding.
