INSIDE THIS ISSUE: UAE EMBASSY- CULTURAL DIVISION UAE STUDENT VOLUME II, ISSUE II NEWSLETTER JUNE 25, 2012 ACADEMIC ADVISORS ATTEND NAFSA CONFERENCE The Cultural Division is constantly working on building partnerships and enhancing relationship with universities to better serve its students. Therefore, several academic advisers participated in the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers conference (NAFSA) held in Houston, Texas May 27-June 1 with approximately 8,500 educational professionals in attendance. ADIA SCHOLARS ATTEND CONFER- ENCE OUTSTANDING STUDENTS EXCELLENT STU- DENTS 2 3 4-5 GRADUATES 6-7 PHOTOS 8 As in the past, the Cultural Division worked with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Cultural Offices in planning and setting up the GCC booth where countless individuals stopped by to inquire about the UAE culture, education, and tourism. In particular, much interest was shown in exploring the possibility of establishing partnerships and exchange programs between UAE and US educational institutions, and improving the ability to meet the needs of UAE students. Finally, the Cultural Division representatives also participated in a Poster Fair, which was organized by Education-USA. Through this venue, which drew many visitors, they were able to provide engaging and interesting information about education in the UAE. The advisers also attended professional development workshops including: Current SEVIS I and II Issues Muslim Students in Academic Life: Expectations, Challenges, and Networking Medical Health Crisis Management U.S. Visa Delays and Denials: What s an International Adviser to Do? The academic advisers who attended the conference are: Brenda Casteen, Kholoud Elayyan, Lina Jarad, and Mona Rafi.

UAE STUDENT VOLUME II, ISSUE II NEWSLETTER Page 2 2009 ADIA SCHOLARS ATTEND EMORY UNIVERSITY BUSINESS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE In February 2012, Abdulla Al Ktebi-OSU, Ramis Al Menhali- OSU, Humaid Al Kaabi- U of Minnesota, Nasser Al Dhaheri - Penn State, Mohammed Al Hamiri- Penn State, and Mohammed AL Khouri- Bentley traveled to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia to attend the Undergraduate Business Leadership Conference and compete in the Deloitte Case Competition which was a part of the conference. The keynote speaker for the conference was Usher Raymond IV (or Usher, music artist) and he spoke about his New Look Foundation which provides business training and educational support for underrepresented populations. Several of the students placed in the 2nd (Mohammed Al Hamiri and Mohammed Al Khouri) and 3rd place (Nasser Al Dhaheri, Humaid Al Kaabi, and Ramis Al Menhali) for the competition and were recognized for this. Additionally, the students were able to network with industry professionals as well as the top students from many universities and foreign countries during the training and breakout sessions.

UAE STUDENT VOLUME II, ISSUE II NEWSLETTER Page 3 OUTSTANDING STUDENTS OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS Sultan Khalfan Alkeebali BS in Electrical Engineering, California State University Northridge On June 7th, MOHE scholar Mr. Sultan Alkeebali participated with a team of seniors from California State University-Northridge's Electrical Engineering department in the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC), which was held at Michigan Oakland University. Sultan s team- won the first place overall in the IGVC. Congratulations to Mr. Sultan Alkeebali! Ahmed Mohamed Albraiki Pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineer, University of Minnesota Duluth Mr. Ahmed Albraiki, a MOHE scholar became a Certified Solid- Works Associate (CSWA). SolidWorks is a 3D software tool that lets engineers and designers create, simulate, publish, and manage their data. SolidWorks certifications can be used as a benchmark to measure a student s knowledge and competency with SolidWorks software and makes them stand out from the crowd in today s competitive job market. Congratulations to Mr. Ahmed Albraiki!
