The New Creature s Responsibility to Divine Law Jesus Born Under the Law Law Covenant God made with Israel. Expressed in 10 commandments. Lord was born under the Law. Gal. 4:4 Law Covenant Typified by Hagar. Lord was under Hagar Covenant Up to 30 years of age. 1
Jesus Kept the Law Jesus kept the Law Covenant Before He became of age. God was willing to enter into a Covenant of sacrifice Jesus was perfect. Persisted in keeping the Law During His ministry. Sacrificed rights which were His Because of keeping the Law. Jesus Was Perfect at time of His baptism. God dealt with Him One who had life rights. Lord Jesus was on trial Prove His worthiness to retain His life rights. If He failed to keep the Law Failed to have Divine Approval! If He failed to keep His covenant of sacrifice Failed to make calling and election sure! 2
We Follow Jesus We come to the Lord Present ourselves living sacrifices. His acceptance, imputation of His merit Makes us perfect beings. Everyone perfect in the flesh Has a right to life. We have a right to life for the moment Does not prove it will be everlasting! His Trials Began at Consecration End of the thousand years World will be actually perfect. They will be tested Prove if this perfection is deep, abiding. Before His [Jesus] consecration Had no such trials. His trials began Time of His consecration. "Consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself?" Heb. 12:3 3
Jesus on Trial When Jesus was 30 Holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners. His trial Began at His consecration. Continued until His death. On trial as New Creature. His trial did not end until He cried It is finished! Still Under the Law Law had dominion over Him As long as He lived. He had a human body. Responsible for everything His human body would do. Just so with us Body is reckoned dead. "If ye be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above." Col. 3:1 4
Our Flesh Our flesh is reckoned dead Figuratively raised from the dead. Rom. 6:4,5 Whatever extent our bodies fall short of perfect obedience Christ makes good. 1 John 2:1 If any of us sin We have an Advocate. When We Sin No matter trivial It is sin. God keeps no accounts in the flesh Holds New Creature responsible. For these weaknesses New Creature says Forgive us our trespasses. We have an Advocate with God May come to God and obtain grace to help. Heb. 4:16 5
New Creature Responsible When made His consecration Was a perfect human being. Father accepted His sacrifice Begotten again. Treasure of new mind In an earthen vessel. New Creature responsible For all the Old Creature did. If Old Creature had gotten Him into trouble New Creature would be responsible! Our Lord in the Flesh Under the dominion of the Law As long as He lived. Died at the time of His baptism Died as far as human will. Body did not die. His human body Liable to every Law. 6
Our Lord as New Creature As New Creature Under an additional law. Undertook more than keep the Law. Blessings of the Law Merely an earthly life. When He consecrated Sacrificed everything that went with the Law. New vs. Old Creature If our Lord failed to keep the Law New Creature held responsible. New Creature like a man Old Creature like the dog. Man is responsible for the dog. If the dog bites anyone Owner is responsible. 7
Special Arrangement for Us God has made Special arrangement for us. May go to throne of heavenly grace Because we have an Advocate. Jesus had no advocate. Any misdeed would be charged to Him directly! Nothing to shield Him! God s Laws God always had certain laws of right and wrong. He is under a law of righteousness. Jesus, holy angels are subject to law of righteousness. From divine standpoint Jesus kept Law as New Creature. From human standpoint Jesus kept Law as earthly creature. 8
Spirit and Letter Jesus did not keep the Law Merely in Spirit. Kept it in the letter. We Cannot keep the letter of the Law. Must keep the spirit. Our Lord being perfect Kept the Law in spirit, letter. Every act of obedience Credited to New Creature. Any failure would have brought death! Becoming the Heir Had our Lord remained under the Law Not become the heir. Child of the bondwoman Could not become heir with son of the freewoman. Gal. 4:30 Son of the freewoman was the New Creature! 9
Relationship Our Lord made the covenant at Jordan Passed into the spiritual relationship. Became the spiritual seed of Abraham. Sacrificed All blessings, favors under the Law. Change of Nature Change of nature Required 3.5 years. Did not pass instantly From one relationship to another. By a process Dying daily. Becoming alive daily. 10
Jesus Change of Nature During 3.5 years Process of transfer from the Law Covenant to Sacrificial Covenant. After He fulfilled the Covenant Put to death in the flesh. Quickened in the spirit. 1 Pet. 3:18 Did not enter the glorious station typified by Isaac Until after His resurrection. Our Change of Nature Requires time Dying daily. Becoming more alive daily. Made fully alive Only in our resurrection. 1 Cor. 15:30 Foretaste of blessing now Not ours completely until sacrifice finished. Lord declared to be the son of God with power When He was raised upon the spirit plane. Rom. 1:4 11
Our Lord s Sufferings Produced a variety of results. Fulfilment of the Law Testified His obedience to the Law of God. Prove His loyalty, faithfulness Establish worthiness to be Messiah. Granted great power, glory. Our Lord s Sufferings Pleased God Make our Captain perfect through suffering. Heb. 2:10 Touched with a feeling of our infirmities To sympathize with those in trouble. He was faithful Gone through various trials, testings. Heb. 4:15 12
Confidence in Him We have full confidence in Him. All humanity will have confidence in Him. In His Justice, love, mercy. His Reward The Father exalted Him His own right hand. Part of the Father s plan. By our Lord s experiences Heavenly Father demonstrated His Justice, Power, Love. Far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named. Eph. 1:21 13
Jesus Perfecting A little different for ours. He was perfect Before He humbled himself. As the Man Christ Jesus. He proved Himself worthy According to the Covenant. "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing. Rev. 5:12 Our Perfecting Followers of Jesus Sharers with Him of the sufferings. In the glories to follow. Although we are imperfect Robe of His Righteousness covers our blemishes. Makes us holy, acceptable as joint-sacrificers. If we suffer [with Him] we shall also reign with Him. 2 Tim. 2:12 14
Conclusion Begetting of the Holy Spirit Starts us in the life divine. We are perfected In the Spirit. Our perfection Demonstrated by loyalty of heart. Our justification A reward of faith.
