Student Fees, Financial Aid, Awards 3.1 Tuition Costs Since Providence University College is a non-profit Christian institution, our program is supported primarily by tuition income from the students it serves. Tuition costs are kept at a reasonable level because of a dedicated faculty which provides nationally recognized excellence without primary regard for personal remuneration, an administrative staff which works continually to provide needed services with greater efficiency, and a supporting constituency which gives generously of its resources to undergird and promote the objectives of the University College. All programs of the University College are under continual review. Residence Reservation Deposit (Returning Students) In addition to the $150 damage deposit already on his/her account, the student is required to pay this deposit at the end of each year, to reserve a room in residence for the following semester. The amount is credited to the student s account and is nonrefundable after July 1 for September enrollment and December 1 for January enrollment. Confirmation of Enrollment is non-refundable, will be applied as a deposit for tuition, and is due upon application acceptance from Providence University College. A payment arrangement option for full-time students is available by contacting the Student Aid Coordinator. Part-time students are not eligible for payment arrangements and must pay in full by the deadline. A $55 loan registration fee will apply to all payment arrangements and all accounts not paid in full by the payment deadline, and unpaid accounts will be charged interest at 1.0% monthly (12.7% annually). Transcripts, degrees, diplomas, and certificates are withheld until accounts are paid in full. The Business Office accepts cash, cheque, Interac or wire transfer. If set up in advance, Providence can also accept a bank-to-bank transfer from another Canadian bank. Payment for online courses must be received at the time of registration, and the Business Office also accepts Visa, Mastercard or online payments for these courses. Please contact the Business Office with all questions related to payment. Otterburne Summer TESOL Institute Non-refundable deposit or full payment is due and payable upon registration. For students choosing the deposit option, the remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the course start date. Late registration fees will apply to any registrations or payments not received two weeks prior to the course start date. 3.4 Refund Policy Academics: Regular Session Full refund prior to course start date. There will be a 10% reduction per calendar week for each of the first four weeks following the course start date. There will be no tuition fee refunds after the fourth week of classes. Academics: Online Courses Tuition: Full refund (less administrative fee of $35) prior to course start date. There will be a 10% reduction per calendar week for each of the first four weeks following the course start date. There will be no tuition fee refunds after the fourth week of classes. Technology Fee: Full refund if cancelled during the first week of class. No refund after the first week of class. Academics: Condensed format (Modular) Courses Full refund (less administrative fee of $35 or deposit) prior to course start date. Up until first 1/2 day ends, 90% refund. Up until second 1/2 day ends, 80% refund. No refunds after second 1/2 day ends. Room and Board Students may withdraw from residence within two weeks of their semester registration and receive the appropriate pro-rated refund on board. Students who voluntarily withdraw or are dismissed (disciplinary sanction) from the residence at any point past the two-week grace period will forfeit their entire semester room fee and be given a pro-rated board refund, less a 10% administrative fee on the board portion. 25

3.5 Scholarships and Bursaries Providence offers a variety of scholarships and bursaries to students. Generally scholarships are academic based, while bursaries are financial need based. Students must apply each year by submitting an online application available on the Providence web site. Applications must be submitted by the due date stated on the application. The Scholarship and Bursary Committee will evaluate all applications and notify the successful recipients. 3.6 Student Loans 3.6.1 Canada Student Loans Providence University College is designated as an eligible institution under the Canada Student Loan Act. Repayment of a loan begins six months after graduation, or six months after the student completes his/her academic work if it is prior to graduation. Students are urged, however, to keep their borrowing as low as possible, remembering that after graduation these loans must be repaid at a time when other financial obligations may be heavy. Students should apply for Canada Student Loans at least eight weeks prior to registration to ensure adequate processing time. 3.6.2 Manitoba Government Loans Residents of Manitoba are eligible to apply for Manitoba Government Loans. These loans are awarded on the basis of need, and are given in conjunction with Canada Student Loans. 3.6.3 Other Canadian Provinces Students are eligible to apply for loans from their respective provincial government. More information is available at the Financial Aid page at www.providencecollege.ca. 3.6.4 U.S. Student Loans The U.S. Department of Education has approved Providence University College for purposes of the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. The institutional code number to be used on loan application forms is G12274. Students are encouraged to apply for a student loan using the Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) website at www.fafsa.ed.gov, and create a profile at our Virtual Financial Aid Office (VFAO) at https://providenceuc.vfao.com. 3.7 Awards 3.7.1 The R. Wesley Affleck Graduate Award, $400.00 Given to a member of the graduating class who has taken a minimum of 60 credit hours at Providence University College and in the judgment of the faculty, because of his or her well-balanced Christian character, scholarship, and spiritual leadership, best exemplifies the purposes and ideals of the college. 3.7.2 The Stewart and Elizabeth Battram Scholarship Award, $300.00 Given annually to a member of the graduating class who has taken a minimum of 60 credit hours at Providence University College and who has maintained the highest overall scholastic record in the regular program of study. 26

3.7.3 Valedictorian, $300.00 Awarded to a member of the graduating class who is selected jointly by the college faculty and the graduating class to speak on behalf of the graduates at the annual Graduation Exercises. 3.7.4 The Sophomore/Junior Class Award, $250.00 Given annually to a student in the upper quarter of the Junior and Sophomore Classes who has shown promise and leadership ability, has exemplified the objectives of the college, and is continuing in a college program. 3.7.5 The Freshman Class Award, $250.00 Given annually to a student in the upper quarter of the Freshman Class who has shown promise and leadership ability, has exemplified the objectives of the college, and is continuing in a college program. 3.7.6 The Social Science Award, $250.00 Given to a Social Science major who demonstrates outstanding scholarship and the potential to communicate and contribute to the Social Sciences, and who has an AGPA of 3.5 or higher. 3.7.7 The Communications Award, $250.00 Given to the student who has displayed ability, leadership, and promise in at least one of the fields of speech, homiletics, or journalism. 3.7.8 The Theatre Award, $250.00 Given to the student who has displayed ability, leadership, and promise in the area of theatre performance and/or production. 3.7.9 The Sheil s Memorial Award for Missions, $250.00 Given to a student who has evidenced special interest and leadership in missions and who represents acceptable academic standing. 3.7.10 The George Sinderson Award for Field Education, $250.00 Given to the senior student who has demonstrated an outstanding zeal in practical service through involvement in Field Education assignments. 3.7.11 The Pilots Athletes of the Year Awards, $250.00 Given to two students, one male and one female, who have demonstrated outstanding ability, maturity, and leadership on one or more Pilots athletic teams. 3.7.12 The Pilots Rookies of the Year Awards, $250.00 Given to two students, one male and one female, who have demonstrated outstanding ability, maturity, and leadership in their first year on one or more Pilots athletic teams. 3.7.13 The Pilots Scholarship Award, $250.00 Given to a full-time student and member of a Pilots team who has excelled in athletic performance, demonstrated exemplary personal character, and maintained an AGPA of 3.50 or higher. 27

3.7.14 The Music Performance Awards, $300.00; $250.00 A first prize of $300 and a second prize of $200 given annually to two music majors by a guest adjudicator on the basis of a recital competition. 3.7.15 The H.H. Janson Memorial Award, $250.00 Given to a student who has exhibited stability, spirituality, acceptable academic attainment, and especially a potential as an expository preacher. This award is made possible by the bequest of Dr. H.H. Janson, who served on the faculty of Vancouver Bible College for 14 years and as President of Providence University College from 1947 to 1949. 3.7.16 Biblical Studies Award Given to a graduating student who has shown excellence and promise in the field of Biblical Studies. The student must have an AGPA of 3.5 or higher. 3.7.17 The Clyde Krant Memorial Business Award, $250.00 Given annually to a student who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts, Business Administration major, who has shown academic and leadership ability, and who has exemplified the objectives of the college. This award can be given either to a graduating student or one who is returning for further study in the area of Business Administration. 3.7.18 The Chris Derksen Memorial Award, $250.00 Awarded annually to a student who demonstrates a special enthusiasm and aptitude for choral music and its integration with spirituality and worship, and so provides leadership to the choral program by example. 3.7.19 The Charles and Irene Christian Memorial Award, $250.00 Given to a returning student who will be spending at least two months of his or her summer in home or cross-cultural Christian ministry, who presents acceptable academic standards, and who has demonstrated special interest in and aptitude for full-time Christian ministry at home or abroad. 3.7.20 The Youth Leadership Award, $150.00 This award is sponsored by Red Rock Bible Camp and is given to a senior Youth Leadership major who has demonstrated exemplary Christian character, proven academic excellence, meaningful youth ministry involvement during the academic program, and exceptional potential for future ministry impact. The recipient of the award is selected jointly by the Youth Leadership majors and the head of the Youth Leadership department. 3.7.21 The C.W. Hiebert Memorial Award For Graduate Studies, $500.00 This award is given to a graduating College student who has shown outstanding promise for further university studies and whom the faculty especially encourages to pursue graduate education. The award will be available for educational expenses in any one of the three years immediately following graduation. 3.7.22 The Mary Hiebert Memorial Award for Humanitarian Service, $500.00 This award is given to a student who has displayed outstanding humanitarian service. 28

3.7.23 The Professional Studies Award, $250.00 This award is given to a student graduating from the Division of Professional Studies whom the faculty of the division recognizes as a promising candidate for advanced professional studies. The award will be available for educational expenses in any one of the three years immediately following graduation. 3.7.24 A.B.H.E. Honor Society Delta Epsilon Chi The qualifications for scholastic membership are a scholastic average of 3.3 AGPA, Christian character, and leadership ability. Not more than 7% of the graduating class may be nominated. 3.7.25 Student Life Leadership Award, $100.00 Two Student Life Leadership awards are given each year to students who have displayed a positive influence on campus and who have exemplified strong Christian character and leadership. Each student should be involved in campus activities and support the mission statement of the College. 3.7.26 Jesse F. Lynn Memorial Award, $100.00 Awarded annually to a missionary who plans to return to the field. 3.7.27 The History Award, $100.00 Given to a student who has shown excellence in scholarship in the area of History. Students who receive this award must have an AGPA of 3.5 or higher after completing a minimum of 30 credit hours at Providence University College. 3.7.28 The Philosophy Award, $100.00 Given to a student who has shown excellence in scholarship in the area of Philosophy. Students who receive this award must have an AGPA of 3.5 or higher after completing a minimum of 30 credit hours at Providence University College. 3.7.29 The Graduate Studies Award, $250.00 This award, sponsored by Independent Jewellers, is given to a graduate of Providence University College who has applied to the Master of Divinity program at Providence Theological Seminary. Note: all awards might not be awarded each year. 29
