BOC Family Comprehensive Protection Plan - FAQs General Questions 1. Q: Who is eligible to apply for BOC Family Comprehensive Protection Plan (the Plan )? A: All legal residents ordinarily residing in Hong Kong and aged between 18 and 75 are eligible to apply for the Plan. 2. Q: What is the meaning of the Insured and Family? Are the insured s parents included? A: The Insured and Family refer to legally married couples and all of their legitimate child(ren) aged between 6 weeks and 17 years old, who are unmarried and not at work. The insured s parents are not included, but if the parents live with the insured, they can be covered under the Home Protection benefit. 3. Q: What are the advantages of a one-stop comprehensive protection policy, compared with an individual insurance policy? A:: A one-stop comprehensive protection policy covers the protection for personal accident, annual travel, home, domestic helper and golfers under one single policy, saving you from the hassle of managing more than one policy. The total premium of a comprehensive protection policy is also relatively competitive. 4. Q: What are the application requirements for this Plan? A: The insured is required to apply for at least two out of three basic benefits under the Plan before they can apply for the optional benefits. Basic benefits include personal accident, annual travel and home protection. Optional benefits include domestic helper and golfers protection. Personal Accident Protection 5. Q: What are the differences between the Personal Accident Protection in the Plan and those personal accident insurance generally available in the market? A: The general individual personal accident insurance in the market allows the insured person to choose their own sum insured, and the premium is usually calculated based on the sum insured and the occupation of the insured person. The Personal Accident Protection provides two choices with fixed insured amount and fixed premium for customers choice (i.e. Gold Plan and Silver Plan) to make application easier.
6. Q: Does the Plan cover medical expenses if the insured person suffers from serious injury due to a fire accident? A: Yes, if a Registered Medical Practitioner confirmed that the insured person s body is in a third degree burns and medical treatment is required for the insured person following an accident, the maximum benefit of the medical expenses will be doubled (maximum benefits per event under Silver Plan and Gold Plan will be increased from HK$30,000 and HK$45,000 to HK$60,000 and HK$90,000 respectively). 7. Q: Under what circumstances will home nursing expenses be covered? A: If the insured person is injured due to accident covered by the Plan and incurs reasonable expenses for receiving qualified nursing care service at the insured person s home for a period after being discharged from the hospital, as recommended by a Registered Medical Practitioner, the actual charges for such services will be payable. (up to a maximum of 100 days) Annual Travel Protection 8. Q: Is there any maximum cover period for each single journey under the Annual Travel Protection? A: Yes, the maximum cover period for each single journey is 60 days. 9. Q: Will the insured person s personal notebook computer be covered under the Annual Travel Protection? A: Yes, Baggage & Personal Effects under the Annual Travel Protection can be extended to cover the loss or damage to the insured person s personal notebook computer as a result of theft or robbery during the journey. 10. Q: Will the Annual Travel Protection protect me from any loss resulting from the Hong Kong Government issuing a Black Alert for my scheduled destination? A: Yes, the insured person will be protected against the issuance of the Black Alert in the following situations: (1) Prior the journey: If the Black Alert has been issued for the insured person s scheduled destination prior to the departure date, resulting in cancellation of the journey, the insured person will receive compensation for prepaid non-refundable deposits and expenses. However, the insured person can only benefit from this protection if the Black Alert has not been issued for the scheduled destination prior to the insured person s confirmation of booking of the scheduled journey.

Q: Does the Annual Travel Protection protect me from any loss of my property due to burglary at my home while I am travelling? A: Yes, under the Annual Travel Protection, the insured person will be compensated for the loss of or damage to home contents due to burglary at his/her unoccupied home during the journey. The maximum amounts payable per journey under Gold Plan and Silver Plan are HK$15,000 and HK$10,000 respectively, and up to HK$3,000 per home content. Home Protection 12. Q: Are all types of residential buildings covered under the Plan? A: In principle, all permanent residential buildings situated in Hong Kong, built and roofed with bricks, stone or concrete are covered under the Home Protection. However, any residential building over 40 years old and/or property with a gross floor area that exceeds 1,500 square feet will subject to final approval of BOCG Insurance on a case-by-case basis. 13. Q: If the gross floor area of my home is 750 square feet or below, how should I choose the right plan? A: In general, you should ensure that the insured amount under the Home Protection would be sufficient to cover the replacement costs of your home contents. You should therefore choose a plan according to the insured amount you need. You may consider any of the following plans: (1) Gold Plan (Home Contents insured amount up to HK$1,200,000) (2) Silver Plan (Home Contents insured amount up to HK$1,000,000) (3) Silver Value Plan/Gold Value Plan (Home Contents insured amount up to HK$600,000)
14. Q: How is the compensation amount for damage to home contents determined? A: Compensation amount under the Home Protection will be determined on the basis of the costs required to replace the home contents lost or damaged due to accident with new ones. 15. Q: Does the Domestic Helper Employees Compensation Cover under the Home Protection cover medical expenses for overseas and/or local domestic helper? A: No, the Domestic Helper Employees Compensation Cover under the Home Protection only covers the insured s legal liabilities as an employer against any claim in respect of work-related injuries of overseas and/or local domestic helper according to the Employees Compensation Ordinance and common law. If you wish to have protection for medical expenses for your overseas domestic helper, you can apply the Domestic Helper Protection under the optional benefits at the same time. Golfers Protection 16. Q: Is there any geographical limitation on Golfers Protection? A: No, this protection provides worldwide coverage. 17. Q: How can I obtain hole-in-one celebration expenses? A: The insured person must accomplish a hole-in-one at any recognised golf club during the period of insurance and such achievement must be certified and evidenced by a certificate issued by the recognised golf club in accordance with the normal practice. 18. Q: What is a recognised golf club? A: Recognised golf club means any golf club with golf course that has 18 holes and 72 pars or above. Domestic Helper Protection 19. Q: What protection is provided under the Fidelity Cover? A: The Fidelity Cover protects the employer against the loss of property caused by dishonest behaviour of the domestic helper. Protection may be extended to cover charges for unauthorised long distance calls and necessary expenses actually incurred for the replacement and installation of the main door lock or metal gate lock following the termination of employment contract with the dishonest domestic helper. 20. Q: If I am insured with the Domestic Helper Protection and my domestic helper is diagnosed with the specified critical illness, would he/she be entitled to a one-off cash compensation?
A: No, the compensation will only cover the actual medical expenses incurred in the event of the domestic helper being diagnosed with any of the 12 specified critical illnesses and is required to receive treatment in hospital, medical laboratory, medical imaging centre in Hong Kong or diagnosis or treatment by registered medical practitioner in Hong Kong. (excluding Chinese herbalist treatment) Others 21. Q: When do I need to make a claim when an accident claim arises? A: You should give a written notice to BOCG Insurance as soon as possible and within the 30 days of the occurrence of the claim event and provide all the supporting documents as prescribed by BOCG Insurance from time to time. 22. Q: Will the application be accepted immediately? A: If all questions answered under the proposal form are No and premium has already been paid for, the application can be instantly approved. 23. Q: Do I need to renew the policy upon its expiry? A: No, after successful enrollment for a policy, your policy will be renewed automatically upon successful payment of the premium for the next policy year provided you have not received any notification from BOCG Insurance of any amendment to the terms and/or premium of the policy before the expiry date of every policy year.
