Meet the Team Tony Gilpin Managing Director Tony joined the company in 1996 as Travel Manager; he has since worked his way up the ranks and passed a Diploma in Business Management Degree in 2005. His contribution, hard work, ability to drive new business and results saw him being appointed Managing Director in 2009 following the retirement of Chris Vander. Following a business restructure in 2012, Tony became joint Managing Director of Chapman Stevens & Chase Parkinson. The businesses have since merged. Under his direction, the Towergate Underwriting Travel business & team continue to grow and achieve great results. Tony has a wealth of experience in all Travel related matters and is widely recognised as one of the leading lights in respect of Insurance Cover to meet the 1992 EC Package Travel Regulations. We now act as Business Partners to ABTA, IAGTO & the Coach Tourism Council. Outside of work, for his sins Tony is a Nottingham Forest fan, but when he is not holding his head in his hands, he is enjoying his time with his wife & 2 young children. Tony also likes to give back and partakes in many challenges for Charity such as parachute jumping, sailing, bungee jumps & half marathons. Tony also likes to Garden, play football & snooker when time permits. Steve Browne Senior Account Executive Steve manages a portfolio of existing clients and combines this with new business activities across our range of travel industry products, as well as coordinating and delivering our travel insurance training provision across the portfolio as a whole. He also acts as a liaison with our regulatory solution provider. Out of work his time is taken up driving his three children to their extensive range of sporting and social activities. Somehow, he has actually found time to help out with his daughter s football team. Steve is a keen cook and a bit of a film buff. Tony Duke New Business Development Executive Having previously worked within the travel industry for nearly 20 years, his main focus is on bringing in new business from all travel related companies and making sure that they receive the best service possible, being a strong believer in providing a professional service and maintaining a good working relationship. Outside of work Tony enjoys spending time with his family by doing various activities. If he is really lucky, he might be able to get out for a round of golf or two at some point in the year. He enjoys socializing with his friends, watching various sports, camping and walking. Like most people, Tony enjoys holidaying abroad and has visited Cuba, Grenada, Jamaica, Mauritius and Thailand as well as several European destinations.
Meet the Team Francesca Edwards Team Leader (Declaration Team) and Contracting Assistant Francesca acts as support for the contracting and sales teams and the Operations and Underwriting Director, answering policy queries from clients and customers alike. This year, she started overseeing the in-house accounts declaration team, helping to resolve any queries/issues with rates, updating systems and generating reports. She also assists in other departments as required. Prior to joining Towergate, Francesca completed her undergraduate degree in archaeology and likes to visit museums/historic sites in her free time the British Museum being a firm favourite. She is also an avid reader and likes to spend time with her family or socialise with friends over dinner and drinks or a trip to the cinema. Sam Sciortino Commercial Team Leader Sam manages the commercial department s activities, getting involved in new business and renewal negations and assisting mainly Tour Operators/Travel Agents on policies required to comply with the EC Directives and Package Travel Regulations. We are specialists in Tour Operators Liability and Financial Failure Cover. Outside of work, Sam is an avid gym goer, Arsenal supporter and follows boxing and UFC. Sam enjoys spending time with his family and friends and appreciates good food. Helen Beardon Senior Claims Handler Helen heads up a team of 2 claims handlers and 2 admin staff and personally handles a range of retrospective claims and live medical overseas cases which require immediate attention. In addition to this, she audit claims files on a monthly basis, produces end of the month reports, on-call for the overseas medical emergencies 24/7 along with other responsibilities. Outside of work she enjoys reading, shopping (like all women), gardening and not thinking about work. Beverley Tavener Senior Medical Administrator Beverley manages a small team in the medical screening department where they assess the extent of risk from customers contacting us with their pre-existing conditions and applying the appropriate insurance terms in line with the Company and Underwriter philosophy and practice. Outside of work she likes spending time with her family and friends, walking her dog, sewing & playing with her adorable grand children.
