The introduction of a 1-1 laptop program at Nazareth Catholic College has provided students with opportunities to experience and use emerging ICT technologies. Ownership A school owned device has a number of advantages: Access to lower software licensing costs Management of servicing, including installation of window updates, service packs etc Insurance arrangements Anti-virus and span protection Web Filtering The laptop remains the property of the Nazareth Catholic College and parents have a choice of choosing one of 2 options, (24/7 or Daily) At the end of each year, students will be required to return the laptop and all associated accessories for end of year maintenance/rollover regardless of which option has been chosen. When a student leaves the College before the end of the school year, he/she will be required to return the device in full working order with all associated accessories. OPTION 1 The 24/7 option will allow students to have access to the laptop at school and at home. It will be available to students during most of the school holidays subject to periodic servicing and maintenance. OPTION 2 The Daily option requires students to collect their laptop each morning and return it at the end of each day. Each student will be issued with the same laptop, fully charged, each day. The cost of each are: 24/7 $250.00 Daily $150.00 ** reviewed annually Both of these amounts include a deposit of $100 which will be held in trust until a student leaves the College. The deposit will be refunded when the laptop is returned in good working order with all associated devices. 3

Privately-owned devices Privately-owned devices will not be connected to the school network and therefore are not permitted within the school grounds. The reasons for this include: Inability to install school purchased software on privately owned devices due to legal reasons. Maintenance of Security and Virus protection Continuity of access at school if the machine was to breakdown Ability to access other school resources (e.g. home drive, printers and internet) Optional peripherals The College will not provide any additional devices; parents however may wish to purchase these. Support for these devices will not be provided and they will not form part of the 1-1 warranty. Peripherals may include USB storage or backup devices Printer Mouse Screen External Keyboard Warranty & Insurance All laptops are covered by a manufacturer s warranty and Accidental Damage Insurance. The warranty covers manufacturer s defects and normal use of the laptop. The Accidental Damage Insurance, provided by our supplier HP, covers a maximum of three parts per year. For example, three screens or two screens and a motherboard. If more than three parts are damaged then parents will be responsible for the additional repairs. Full details of the policy and conditions, set by HP, can be found on the College Website www.nazareth.org.au. When a student has a malfunctioning laptop or one that has been damaged accidently they need to take it to the IT Help desk. The College, in most instances, will make available a replacement machine to a student when his/her laptop has been submitted for repair under warranty or insurance arrangements. However, the school may not be able to supply a replacement immediately. Most repairs can be expected to take approximately 2-3 days Stolen or Lost Laptops In the case of suspected theft or loss a police report must be made by the family and an event number with all relevant information provided to the Network Help Desk. The Network Help Desk will then be able to activate the tracking mechanism that will hopefully recover the laptop. If the laptop is not recovered parents will be responsible for the cost of replacement. (Parents may be able make a claim their personal home insurance) 4
