INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION Congratulations! You have joined the thousands of police, military, corrections and other law enforcement agencies who have made Point Blank Enterprises, Inc. (PBEI) the most trusted name in the body armor industry. Through our core brands, Point Blank Body Armor, Protective Products Enterprises, PACA Body Armor and PARACLETE, we are committed to producing and delivering the most technologically advanced ballistic systems that are unparalleled in protection, comfort and functionality. All of our ballistic models are tested by National Institute of Justice (NIJ) approved independent laboratories and comply with NIJ Certification Standards. Remember, body armor is designed to be worn. F.B.I. statistics indicate that almost half of the officers slain each year might have survived had they been wearing lightweight, concealable, protective soft body armor. Your body armor cannot protect you against every threat you face. Some specially designed Armor Piercing and Ultra-High-Velocity handgun ammunition may or may not be defeated by your soft body armor. No soft body armor will defeat rifle or long gun ammunition. For protection against those types of ammunitions, hard armor plates must be worn in front of your soft armor panels. Always refer to the label on your ballistic panel to determine the protection level of your soft armor vest. There should be no expectation of bullet resistance in areas not covered by the ballistic element. Remember, your vest is not bullet proof, but bullet resistant. However, it can help reduce the risk of fatal injury only if you wear it. 2

AND THREATS AND THREATS PROTECTION Our concealable body armor systems are specially designed to defeat specific threats and to suit personal needs for comfort and fit. These systems are engineered to meet NIJ bullet resistance standards and are clearly marked to Threat Level (please review your ballistic panels for Threat Level capabilities). Concealable soft body armor for every day wear is designed primarily to protect against handgun threats. Personal soft body armor is not designed to protect against rifle fire. Due to higher velocities and different bullet configurations, tactical armor containing ceramic composites or other ballistic inserts are necessary. It is absolutely essential that those who select body armor and each officer who wears it realize that there is no such thing as a bulletproof vest. The routine use of appropriate soft body armor significantly reduces the likelihood of fatal injury, but 100% protection in all circumstances is impossible. Body armor selection is to some extent a trade-off between ballistic protection and wearability. The weight and comfort of soft body armor is inversely proportional to the level of ballistic protection that it provides. -- National Institute of Justice 3

OF ARMOR INSPECTION OF ARMOR INSPECTION - Upon delivery of your concealable or tactical body armor, please carefully inspect the ballistic model, carrier style and all components to confirm your order is accurate. - Do not write your name or mark the carrier until the order is confirmed. - Contact your Distributor immediately if you have any discrepancy with your order. & EXCHANGE PROCESS ALTERATION & EXCHANGE PROCESS ALTERATION Point Blank Enterprises, Inc. will make every effort to ensure that all vests are properly fitted upon delivery. However, any vest requiring alteration must follow the Alteration and Exchange process: - Contact your Dealer/Distributor within 30 days after original ship date to receive free alterations. - Armor must be unmarked and in like new condition. - Alterations will be completed within 14 days of Point Blank s receipt of the vest along with complete alteration/resizing instructions. - Alteration charges apply if vest is received after 30 days of purchase. 4

REPLACEMENT RATIONAL REPLACEMENT RATIONAL Please consider the following prior to replacing your armor: Is the vest excessively worn? Does it have to be replaced because of set wrinkles or is it visibly in bad condition or worn out? Is there mildew on the ballistic panel? Even with proper care and hygiene, there could still be mildew and staining on the ballistic panel(s). Does the body armor still fit? Has your body size changed since you purchased the vest? Have the street threats changed? Are there different types of weapons being confiscated on the streets since you purchased your vest? Has your service weapon or ammunition changed? The armor you wear should be capable of stopping the ammunition you carry. Have the body armor standards changed to meet the new threats? Does your agency require its armor to be certified to the latest body armor standard? 5

REPAIRS REPAIRS If any part of your ballistic panel is torn or damaged, it should be brought to the attention of your local manufacturer s representative. DO NOT attempt to repair the garment yourself. Should the soft body armor ballistic or stab panel cover be compromised (cut, torn or worn through), it should not be worn and immediately returned to Point Blank Enterprises for inspection and repair. If the damage is the result of normal wear and tear and the vest is still under warranty, the damage will be repaired free of charge. If however, the damage is the result of improper care, storage or abuse, determined solely by Point Blank Enterprises then we will advise the owner of recommended repair or replacement costs. In any event, the owner will be responsible for the cost of returning the vest to the factory. Point Blank Enterprises warrants the ballistic panels for a period of five (5) years against manufacturing defects. Please refer to the warranty information on page 6 and 7 of this booklet. The outershell is warranted from manufacturing defects for a period of two (2) years. 10

WHAT IF WHAT IF MY MY IS SHOT OR DAMAGED IN A DUTY RELATED ASSAULT? If your body armor is shot or damaged in any way, replace it immediately! If your body armor is shot or damaged by TASER device or Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) contact, in a duty-related assault, Point Blank Enterprises will repair or replace it free of charge, provided official documentation on departmental stationary detailing the incident is provided to Point Blank Enterprises. WEARING YOUR PROPERLY WEARING YOUR PROPERLY YOUR BODY ARMOR is an important part of your safety equipment. It has to be worn properly in order for it to function as designed. Before and after donning your armor, make sure that the ballistic panels are in the proper position within the carrier and that the suspension straps are properly engaged. Armor that has set wrinkles due to improper storage or excess wear and does not stay in position within the outershell, should be replaced. 11

EFFECTS OF MOISTURE EFFECTS OF MOISTURE & CHEMICALS Perspiration can sometimes generate sufficient moisture to reduce the effectiveness of ballistic fabric. When such garments are thoroughly saturated or totally immersed in water, a decreased level of ballistic resistance can result while they remain in such a saturated condition. To reduce this possibility, our ballistic materials are encased in a water-resistant cover. If the body armor is ever completely submerged in water to the point of saturation, we recommend the ballistic panels be replaced. Additionally, the ballistic element should never be exposed to any petroleum, chemical or chlorine products. Exposure to these agents will result in a loss of ballistic resistance. 12

OF YOUR STORAGE OF YOUR STORAGE Improper storage of your body armor may contribute to premature wear, as well as reduce the protective capabilities of the ballistic system itself. When you are not wearing your body armor, it should be stored under normal environmental conditions. Storage at room temperatures in your locker or closet is recommended. Once the armor is removed from its packaging, care should be taken to store your body armor flat, either on a shelf or other flat surface. When this is not practical, suspended on a clothes hanger is the next best method. Your body armor should never be folded, compressed or stood on its edge. This improper storage will create excessive permanent creases in your body armor and may cause curling at the edges. Your body armor should never be stored in the trunk of a vehicle where it may be exposed to extremely high temperatures. High temperatures may affect the strength of some fibers which could diminish the performance of your body armor. Improper care or storage of your body armor will void the warranty! 13

& MAINTENANCE CARE & MAINTENANCE CARE YOUR OF YOUR OF Removable ballistic panels or body armor with permanent non-removable ballistics should be cleaned in the following method: - DO NOT IMMERSE IN LIQUID. - Gently wipe-down ballistic panels with a damp sponge or wash cloth using mild detergent. Remove any excess detergent with a damp sponge or wash cloth using clean water. - Allow to thoroughly air dry before inserting panels into carrier. Additional instructions: - DO NOT DRY CLEAN, MACHINE WASH OR BLEACH. - DO NOT DRY OUTDOORS IN THE SUN. 14
