Technical University Dresden Faculty of Science Regulation Concerning the Determination of Eligibility in the Master Study Program Psychology: Human Performance in Socio-Technical Systems (HPSTS) (Eignungsfeststellungsordnung) (date will be added upon official issue) On grounds of 13 subsection 4 and 17 subsection 10 of the higher education act on the freedom of higher education institutions in the Free State of Saxony (Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz SächsHSG) of December 10, 2008, legally consolidated as of 01.01.2013, the Technical University Dresden passes the following regulation concerning determination of eligibility as a statute: The male pronouns used in this regulation apply for persons of both female and male gender. 1 Applicability This regulation, on the grounds of the current higher education freedom act in Saxony, governs the determination of the special admission requirements (determination of eligibility) for the master study program psychology: Human Performance in Socio-Technical Systems (HPSTS) at the Technical University Dresden. 2 Admission Requirements (1) In accordance with 3 of the Study Regulations for the master study program HPSTS, those applicants are qualified and eligible for the master study program HPSTS who 1. provide evidence for a first university degree recognized in the Federal Republic of Germany in the field of psychology with a minimum duration of 6 semesters or a first university degree in one of the following subjects: work sciences, computer sciences, engineering-, traffic-, economic sciences, business education, industrial engineering, teacher training, public health, occupational health, sociology; 2. provide evidence for good command of the English language (level B2 of the European framework of reference for languages) if English is not the native language of the applicant; 3. provide evidence for specialized knowledge in fundamental subjects of psychology and the core areas of the study program in accordance with 5. (2) Matriculation in the master study program HPSTS is carried out by the matriculation office/international office in compliance with the current regulations for matriculation, the prescriptions of which remain unaffected by the orders of this regulation. Requirement for the admission to the master study program HPSTS is documented evidence of the required eligibility in accordance with this regulation. 3 Admission Committee The spokesperson of the department of psychology appoints, on recommendation of the committee of study affairs, the admission committee for the particular application period. The admission committee consists, as a rule, of at least two professors from the department of psychology. The admission committee rules on the fulfillment of the admission requirements in accordance with 2 and on objections to decisions made in the context of the determination of eligibility. In addition, the admission committee is responsible for the development and publication of the standard application form in accordance with 4 subsection 2 clause 1. 4 Application und Deadlines 2
(1) The standard application form for participation in the proceedings concerning the determination of eligibility in accordance with this regulation for the master study program HPSTS has to be submitted, together with the standard application documents for matriculation: 1. German and foreign applicants with a university entrance qualification (i.e., admission right to Master level studies) received in Germany have to submit their application to: Technische Universität Dresden Fachrichtung Psychologie Professur Arbeits- und Organisationspsychologie Studienbüro HPSTS, BZW 01062 Dresden Germany German and foreign applicants with a university entrance qualification (i.e., admission right to Master level studies) received outside of Germany have to submit their application to: Technische Universität Dresden c/o uni-assist e.v. Helmholtzstraße 2-9 10587 Berlin Germany 2. German and foreign applicants (EU) with a university entrance qualification (i.e., admission right to Master level studies) received in Germany or outside of Germany have to submit their application until July 15 of the respective year. Foreign applicants (Non-EU) with a university entrance qualification (i.e., admission right to Master level studies) received outside of Germany have to submit their application until May 31 of the respective year. (2) The following documents have to be attached to the application besides the documents associated with matriculation: 1. standard application form for the determination of the special eligibility for the master study program HPSTS; 2. legally attested copy of the first university degree in accordance with 2 subsection 1 clause 1; 3. legally attested copies of additional certificates and performance records which provide evidence for the special eligibility in accordance with 2 subsection 1 clause 3; 4. legally attested copies of evidence for sufficient language abilities in accordance with 2 subsection 1 clause 2 (e.g., certificate of the university entrance qualification). (3) Applications that are not received in complete and due form/due time will be excluded from the further application process. 3
(4) If, at the particular time of application, evidence of the first university degree in accordance with subsection 2 clause 2 is not received, the applicant will still be accepted to the determination of eligibility proceedings in compliance with this regulation if evidence is provided for 80% of the course credits attainable through the university degree on basis of completed module examinations or the final paper and, if applicable, the colloquium, by written confirmation of the university of origin. To verify this, the applicant has to submit a corresponding attestation of his university in original or legally attested form. The requirement of submitting all other documented evidence together with the application in line with subsection 2 as well as subsection 3 remains unaffected by this. 5 Proof and Determination of Special Eligibility (1) The special eligibility for the master study program HPSTS in accordance with 2 subsection 1 clause 3 is achieved if evidence for good knowledge in at least four of twelve core areas of the master study program HPSTS has been provided and the applicant has sufficient knowledge in the fundamental subjects of psychology. (2) The core areas are: 1. Cognitive Affective Science 2. Consumer Research 3. Human Factor Engineering / Ergonomics / Neuroergonomics 4. Human Resource Management 5. Learning & Instruction 6. Marketing 7. Organization & Work Science 8. Public Health; Occupational Health 9. Quality Management 10. Social Behavior Science 11. Statistical Methods 12. Traffic and Transportation Science (3) Good knowledge in a core area exists if course credits of at least 5 ECTS have been successfully attained in this core area. Course credits which are recognized are: 1. successfully completed modules 2. successfully completed lectures and seminars 3. bachelor theses, diploma theses, state examinations in a study program in accordance with 2 subsection 1 clause 1. (4) The fundamental subjects of psychology are: 1. General psychology 2. Biological psychology 3. Differential and personality psychology 4. Developmental psychology 5. Methods of psychology 6. Psychological diagnostics 7. Social psychology 4
(5) Sufficient knowledge in the fundamental subjects of psychology exists if, in total, course credits of 20 ECTS have been successfully attained in at least three of the seven fundamental subjects. Course credits which are recognized are: 1. successfully completed modules 2. successfully completed lectures and seminars 3. bachelor theses, diploma theses, state examinations in a study program in accordance with 2 subsection 1 clause 1. (6) The admission committee verifies whether evidence for the special eligibility has been provided by examining the documents attached to the application, in particular the documents in accordance with 4 subsection 2 clause 3, but only if the admission requirements in accordance with 2 subsection 1 clauses 1 and 2 have been fulfilled. 6 Eligibility Notification (1) If the applicant has proven the required eligibility in accordance with 2, he will receive a written confirmation of eligibility immediately after the process of determining eligibility has been completed. The confirmation of eligibility serves the purpose of submission at the matriculation office/international office of TU Dresden and represents the required form of evidence for eligibility in the master study program. (2) If the applicant is not able to provide evidence for the required eligibility in accordance with 2, the admission committee will issue a letter of rejection that is accompanied by advice on legal remedies. 7 Coming-Into-Effect and Publication This regulation for determination of eligibility comes into effect one day after publication in the official announcements of the Technical University Dresden.
