The Olin T. Binkley Memorial Baptist Church April 12, 2015 Second Sunday in Eastertide BECOMING AWARE THROUGH ART ST. MARTIN AND THE BEGGAR - 1320 The beautiful pastel colors of this mural in the Chapel of St. Martin in the lower section of the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, provide a visual parallel to the uplifting spiritual moment in which Martin of Tours shares his cloak with a poor man. Tradition holds that from this moment, in which Martin met Christ in the beggar, that Martin lived a life of remarkable commitment to the cause of the poor. He also was a passionate believer in loving one's enemies, once taking a pacifist stand that led to charges of cowardice and eventually to his imprisonment -- "I am a soldier of Christ; I cannot fight." Artist: Martini, Simone, 1283-1344 Welcome to Binkley! Binkley Baptist Church is a community of faith on a journey that calls for questioning, humility and conviction. As followers of Jesus, we embrace spiritual growth, mutual care and service, assured that as we serve our neighbors, we joyfully serve God. Intentionally inclusive, we welcome people of all races, sexual orientations, and cultures, respecting diverse religious experiences within the church and beyond. We invite others to join us in our commitment to peace, justice, and care for creation. In a spirit of Christian love, we welcome you. Visitors, welcome! Please fill out a visitor card and place it in the offering plate if this is your first time worshipping with us at Binkley. The arrangement on the communion table is given by Dale Osborne and Joe Templeton to celebrate the April birthdays of Jacob and Lydia Osborne and to honor the remarkable service as Diaconate Chair by Claudia Templeton. Hearing assistance devices and children s worship bags are available in the Narthex before service begins. Thank you for serving in the Nursery.
