Who can apply? Guidance notes please detach, read and retain for your information before completing this form Your household gross income should be less than 28,066 (after disregards*) to be eligible for help. *Disregards - 2,000 for partner - 2,000 for eldest child - 1,000 for each subsequent child. You must have settled status in the UK and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for 3 years before your course. You must not be deemed unfitted for student funding by Student Finance England (SFE) or any other student body. In addition, you must not be under investigation by SFE or any other student finance body. You must be a registered student at the University of Sunderland or studying a franchised course at a University of Sunderland partnership college. For courses starting before 1 st Sept 2012 - part-time students must be studying at least 50% of a full-time equivalent (FTE) course. Students with a disability preventing them from studying at least 50%, can apply provided they are studying at least 25% FTE. For courses starting on or after 1 st September 2012 - part-time students must be studying at least 25% FTE. Undergraduate students must be studying a course which is designated to receive financial support from the student finance body and they personally must be identified as eligible to receive financial support where applicable. You must have applied for all funding available to you. You must have taken the full statutory student support available to you from SFE unless your fees are being met by sponsorship. If you are not working and are fit for work you need to have applied for an earnings replacement benefit e.g. JSA /ESA/Universal Credit. Postgraduate and ELQ students must have made adequate financial provision for tuition fees, childcare provision and living costs prior to starting their course. Where do I send the form? Completed forms should be submitted to: Student Support Fund Team, University of Sunderland, Student & Learning Support, The Gateway, 1 st Floor Edinburgh Building, Chester Road, Sunderland, SR1 3SD. How long does it take? We will usually email you with the result of your application within 4 weeks of receiving your completed form. However, due to the high volume of applications received at busy periods this decision time may be extended. If you do not complete all parts of the form or provide the evidence required this may also delay an assessment. Applications can only proceed if all evidence is satisfactory. If your circumstances are complex we reserve the right to request additional information. How are payments made? Payments will be made by direct credit and will be credited to the bank account registered on e:vision. Please ensure that your correct bank details are registered before presenting your application. This will avoid any unnecessary delays in payment. Please note: The University cannot be held responsible for late payment if bank details are either not registered, registered incorrectly or due to University system errors. The award notices should reflect the circumstances you have told us about in your application. Income from savings and investments This includes bank and building society gross interest (before tax) or from any other investment income. Bursary Payments e.g. Scholarships, awards, help towards exhibitions, bursaries or any other allowances. Benefits please provide copies of your award notices e.g. housing benefit, council tax benefit, income support covering the academic year 2015/16 or 2016/17 depending on the time of your application. Part 7: Data Protection and Confidentiality Data Protection Act 1998 The University of Sunderland is a data controller in terms of the 1998 legislation. The Student & Learning Support Department follows the University policy in matters of data protection, particularly with regard to the confidential nature of sensitive personal data. This sensitive personal data will be used solely within the department for needs assessment, statistical purposes and electronic records keeping. It will not be passed to any third party without your consent, except when the University is required to do so by law, e.g. to Auditors.
