STEM Graduate Certificate Program Student Activity at the Fall 2014 Kickoff Celebration of the STEM Graduate Certificate Program Page 1

Summary of STEM Graduate Certificate Program 2013-2014 The University of Florida approved the STEM Graduate Certificate program, and teachers in the Palm Beach County Title 1 secondary schools were invited to submit applications. Seventeen teachers completed applications and sixteen began program coursework. (One teacher who was accepted in the program had to decline as she was moving out of Palm Beach). Fifteen remained enrolled in the program after The Spring 2014 semester, as one student dropped out after beginning coursework. Each teacher identified an area of specialization, either mathematics or science education and will take three specialization courses in their chosen area. The overall course of study for the certificate consists of two foundational courses and the three specialization courses; the total hours for the certificate are 15 semester hours of graduate credit. The courses approved for the program include: Foundational Courses EDE 6325 Teacher Inquiry/Action Research 3 semester hours EDG 6445 Meeting 3 semester hours Mathematics Education Specialization Courses MAE 5XXX Self Regulated Learning 3 semester hours MAE 6313 Problem Solving 3 semester hours MAE 5396 Formative Assessment 3 semester hours Science Education Specialization Courses SCE 5316 Inquiry-Based Science Teaching 3 semester hours EDG 6931 Learning Science with Technology 3 semester hours EDG 6931 Science Curriculum Development 3 semester hours The first cohort of graduate students took the EDE 6325 during the Spring 2014 semester. Summary of STEM Graduate Certificate Program 2014-2015 In the 2014-2015 academic year, eleven members of the first cohort completed the STEM Graduate Certificate Program. These students and schools are listed below. The retention rate for this first cohort was 77%. Page 4 Goals for STEM Graduate Certificate Program 2015-2016 No new students will be recruited for the program.
