Email based document interchange known as messaging service and contribute to corporate productivity in following ways 1. it strengthens the automation of documentation life cycle 2. It allows document sharing without forcing an organization to standardize on a particular word processor. 3. It cuts down paper output generated by organization.

MOBILE MESSAGING Mobile messaging represents a new dimension in the user s interaction with the messaging The design impact of mobile messaging will be on the storage and delivery of multimedia objects for hypermedia messaging applications Handheld and desktop devices requires complementary backend services effectively manage communications for large organization

HYPERMEDIA MESSAGE COMPONENTS When the multimedia document is a part of the messaging system, then it is called as hypermedia message. An authoring sequence for a message based on online application consists of following steps 1. The user may have watched some video presentation on the material and may want to attach a part of that clip in the message 2. Some pages of the book are scanned as images 3. The user writes the text using a word processor The above three components must combined in a message using an authoring tool provided by the messaging system

TEXT MESSAGE Messaging systems were designed to allow the users to communicate using the short messages Classes of service determine if the message is delivered immediately or according to its sequence in and orderly queue of messages. RICH TEXT MESSAGES Rich text format is used for storage as well as import and export of text files across a variety of word processing and messaging systems Windows based desktop publishing application is rich text enabled because it can integrate formatting information along with the text Rich text messages provide the capability to create messages in one word processor and edit it in another processor at recipient end The extensions of RTF is done by adding the graphics and file attachments

VOICE MESSAGES The invention of telephone allowed communications among people dispersed geographically Voice mail systems answer telephones using recorded messages and direct the caller through a sequence of touch tone key operations until the caller is connected to the disertive or desired party MIDI was developed by music industry to allow computer control and music recordings from musical instruments FULL MOTION VIDEO MANAGEMENT The full motion video for information repositories and memo is used for database Full motion video have been used for decades for conveying as well as educational programs to viewers The messaging system must have the capability or retrieve these stored video clips and integrate them in the message as embedded or linked objects

FULL MOTION VIDEO AUTHORING SYSTEMS The effective authoring system uses the number of tools and they are as follows 1. Video capture program that allows fast and simple capture of digital video 2. Compression and decompression interfaces for compressing the captured video 3. Video editor with the ability to decompress, combine, edit and decompress digital video clips 4. Video indexing and annotating software for making sections of video clips 5. identifying and indexing video clips for storage

FULL MOTION VIDEO PLAYBACK SYSTEMS The playback system allows the recipient to detach the embedded video reference object, and the factors are as follows, 1. The compression format for storage of video clip 2. Resolution of the screen and the system 3. The CPU processing power 4. Ability to determine hardware and software facilities of recipient system

VIDEO FOR WINDOW(VFW) Video for window provides capture, edit and playback tools for full motion video and the tools are as follows 1. Vid cap tool designed for fast digital video 2. VidEdit tool designed for decompression, editing and compressing full motion digital video 3. VFW playback tool APPLE QUICKTIME Apple quicktime is also an integrated system for playing back video files Quicktime product supports four different compression methodologies INTEL S INDEO Indeo is a digital video recording format and it is a software technology that reduces the size of uncompressed video files Indeo is designed to be scalable for playing back videos, and determines the hardware

HYPERMEDIA LINKING AND EMBEDDING When a multimedia object is incorporated in a document, its behaviour depends on whether it is linked or embedded If the object is linked, then the multimedia object is separate entity that must be moved separately If the object is embedded in the container document, then it travels with the container when the container is moved LINKING IN HYPERTEXT DOCUMENTS Hypertext documents are indexed to locate keyboards within the text component of hypermedia document Links in hyper text document associate one document with another or associate a word or phrase with a non textual object LINKING OBJECTS When an object is linked, the source data object called link source, continues to reside wherever it was at the time the link was created EMBEDDING OBJECTS When the multimedia object is embedded, a copy of the object is physically stored in the hypermedia document

CREATING HYPERMEDIA MESSAGES Hypermedia message can be complex collection of variety of objects and it is an integrated message consisting of text, binary files, images, bitmaps, voice, sound, video Every messaging system defines the standard for message formats often called message body fields and designed for user to enter the message. The hypermedia report may be complex and it requires several steps as follows 1. Planning 2. creating each component 3. integrating documents The planning phase for preparing the hypermedia documents and message consists of determining its various sources of input as follows 1. Text report prepared in word processing system 2. Spreadsheet in spreadsheet software 3. Diagrams in graphics program 4. Images of documents 5. Sound clips 6. Video clips

INTEGRATED MULTIMEDIA MESSAGE STANDARDS Text based technologies have progressed and become integrated with messaging systems and new standards are developed to address interoperability of applications VENDOR INDEPENDENT MESSAGING Vendor independent messaging is designed to facilitate messaging between VIM enabled electronic mail systems Vendor independent messaging as an application programming interface for messaging system VIM makes mail and messaging service available through well defined interface VIM as data exchange mechanism between VIM applications Each VIM aware application is associated with and has access to one or more message containers

VIM MESSAGES VIM defines messaging as store and forward method of application to application or program- to program data exchange, and the objects transported by messaging system are called messages MAIL MESSAGE It is a message of a well defined type that must include a message header and include note parts and attachments MESSAGE DELIVERY The message delivery is most successful, then the delivery report is generated and sent to sender of the message if the sender requested a delivery report MESSAGE CONTAINER Each VIM client has access to one or more message containers DISTINGUISHED NAMES The unique identify for a user or program that can send or receive messages called as distinguished name, and it has address book type, address book name and value

VIM services VIM interface provides a number of service for creating and mailing a messages and they are as follows 1. Electronic messaging composition and submission 2. Electronic message sending and receiving 3. Message extraction from mail system 4. Address book services

MAPI support It provides a layer of functionality between applications and messaging system and the primary goals of MAPI are as follows The client API provides the link between the client MAPI and service provider interface MAPI to messaging system. The 2 interfaces combine to provide an open architecture, such that any messaging application can use any messaging service that has MAPI driver EXTENDED MAPI It is designed for messaging client and uses object oriented programming method and accessed through MAPI object structures MAPI STORAGE It is used for storing data and message and folders reside in MAPI stores MAPI NOTIFICATION MAPI is event driven and the notification engine allows MAPI clients and service providers to register events on which they want to be notified such as message arrival and deletion Sending and receiving messages MAPI msg spooler and transporter work together to send and receive messages Messages are routed based on destination address.

MHS Message Handling Service It describes the functional model that provides end users the ability to send and receive electronic messages In OSI, end user is an originator, who composes and sends messages or receiver who receives the messages A User Agent is an entity that provides the end user function for composing and sending messages for delivering messages.

Directory system standards It defines the issues such as address books and hierarchical naming of recipients based on organizational hierarchy It is joint international standards for distributed directory system that lets users store information such as addresses and databases on a local server. DIRECTORY SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE It is based on the number of following model as follows 1. Information model contains information about users, application and resources 2. Directory model issues inquiry and update requests and accesses directory information 3. Security model cooperate with one another to resolve user requests over a distributed network

INTEGRATED DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT The key technology of work group computing is class of applications called middleware Middleware integrates library services and document creation and inter change designed to support critical business process applications around client server topology It means that the user can attach, embed or link a variety of multimedia objects such as graphics, images, video and audio This also implies when the document is forwarded to other users, all associated multimedia objects are also forwarded MULTIMEDIA OBJECT SERVER The mail server is used to store all email messages and it consists of a file server with the mail files for each user recipient using that server as the mailbox. The mail file operates as the mailbox for the user The user can review the mail and delete mail no longer required from this file.
