R E L E A S E N O T E S Waters Empower 2 Service Pack H Empower 2 Service Pack H provides defect fixes to support the continued deployment of Empower 2. These release notes address the following information and instructions: System and software requirements Operating system requirements Issues resolved in this release Known issues in this release GxP compliance requirements Installing Empower 2 SP H Verifying the installation Empower 2 SP H program file updates Test configurations Consult these release notes and those associated with all previous Empower 2 service packs and feature releases. Unless superseded, all previous release notes and product support information apply to this software release. System and software requirements You must install Empower 2 SP H on all computers on which the Empower 2 client application is installed, including workstations, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, and servers (as listed in the Operating system requirements section below). All computers must be running Empower 2 FR5 (minimum) in order for the installation to proceed. Empower 2 SP H requires the following hardware and software: Empower 2 systems (database servers, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, and Personal workstations) that run on Empower 2 Feature Release 5 (FR5). You need not install Empower 2 SP H on 64-bit Windows Server 2003 and Solaris database servers. You can install Empower 2 SP H on these Empower 2 platforms: 32-bit database servers, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, Personal workstations, and Citrix servers. You can install Empower 2 SP H from systems running the following Empower 2 feature releases and service packs: FR5, SP F, SP F HotFix1, SP G, SP G HotFix1, or SP G HotFix2. Empower 2 SP H includes the files listed in the Empower 2 SP H program file updates section of this document. Operating system requirements Empower 2 SP H supports these platforms and operating systems: Platform Personal workstation LAC/E 32 acquisition server Client Database server Citrix Server - Citrix Presentation Server v 4.5 Operating system Windows XP SP 3 or Windows Vista Business SP2 Windows XP SP 3 or Windows Vista Business SP2 Windows XP SP 3, Windows Vista Business SP2, or Windows Vista Enterprise SP2 Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2 32-bit or 64-bit, Enterprise Edition Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2 32-bit, Enterprise Edition Issues resolved in this release The following table contains a list of the software problems corrected in Empower 2 SP H. The PCS (Product Change System) numbers identify software issues that Waters personnel monitor within a system change request tracking tool. PCS Number Description 39485, 45421 The # of Results Stored for a 3D channel was greater than the number of results present. This has been corrected. Now, when in the Project Window or in QuickStart, the # of Results Stored field displays an accurate value. 40536, 40663, 42210, 47614, 47615 Empower software has the capability to perform unattended batch project backup and restoration. In previous versions of the software, these batch processes produced error and informational messages that required user intervention. With Empower 2 Service Pack H software, however, these messages are logged silently and require no user intervention. For more information or message details, review the BatchBackup or BatchRestore log files located in the \Empower\Logs directory. 41944 The Result # did not increment for PDA results (nor for GPCV or MS results). This has been corrected. Now, when in the Project Window or in QuickStart, the Result # field displays an accurate value. 44581 Dissolution fields were not visible in FR5 when Alter Sample was used. This has been corrected. Now, when using Alter Sample with a Dissolution Sample Set, the fields used to specify information pertinent to dissolution samples bath, vessel, transfer time are available for alteration in the same fashion as for any other valid field in the Sample Set. Page 2 of 14

44692, 47225, 47584 When using Ctrl-D in the Processing Method Component table in Review, the application would exit unexpectedly. This has been corrected so that the application copies the desired value into the appropriate fields below the cursor position. 47076 Reprocessing did not produce results if you were using existing integration and the following conditions applied: The Use existing integration check box was selected (thus preventing the selection of a specific processing method) The original Acquisition Method Set did not contain a processing method Clear Calibration was the first line of the Sample Set This has been corrected so that Use existing integration can be enabled and still produce results, even if the above conditions apply. 47166 A blank Run Samples screen would appear when logging in to a Citrix ICA session for ACQUITY after previously logging out. This behavior was observed when the published application in Citrix was set to use a percent of window setting instead of the seamless setting. This has been partially corrected so that you can successfully reconnect to the ACQUITY system and see a normal Run Samples screen, even when the application published by Citrix is set to use a percent of window setting. Note: An update to the ACQUITY driver is also needed. See Known Issue items 47658 and 47745. 47203 Selecting Empower -> SDMS print on Signoff was printing only partial reports. When an Empower 2 report containing the Instrument Method group for the Agilent LC instrument was sent to SDMS, the resulting report in SDMS had several pages missing. This has been corrected so that SDMS now captures and prints all pages of the report, and produces them in the proper format. 47343, 47344, 47410, 47453 For Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) installations: Object IDs could be assigned out of sequence when using Oracle RAC. When operating Empower 2 in an Oracle RAC environment with multiple server nodes connected to the database, it was possible to have an ID (e.g. Result ID) with a lower numerical value assigned after a previously assigned ID. This behavior caused problems because many other applications within Empower software assumed that the highest ID was the most recent; for example, Results could appear out of order. This has been corrected so that Empower 2 SP H configures the RAC system to order ID values in increasing increments, regardless of which RAC node assigns the ID. 47415 Multiple Ethernet 2414 detectors configured on same acquisition node caused cross-talk. When running two or more Ethernet 2414 detectors on the same Empower 2 FR5 (minimum) acquisition server, the injection sequence from one system caused a negative spike on the second system. This has been corrected so that the injection sequence on one 2414 system has no effect on the other 2414 system. 47446 Multiple injections would give multiple reports. Now, during printing, if a Sample Set lists multiple injections per line, only one report will be created per injection. Page 3 of 14

47447 If a user used interactive control to attempt to change the flow of an e2695 and set a ramp time for the flow change, then the Flow Change window would freeze and the progress of flow change would not be followed over the time of the ramp. Additionally, the Real-Time Plot would freeze. This has been corrected so the user can make interactive flow control changes over a ramp time without the system freezing and requiring a reboot. 47449 Printing of web-based licenses would only print the first page of licenses. This has been corrected so that all licenses are printed. 47504 Problems occurred in Review when adding legends to a chromatogram. Although the capability to add legends onto the chromatogram plot in Review was added in Empower 2 FR2, information for some of the legends (such as Sample Set or Result Set fields) was not available in Review. Additionally, various peak, calibration, calibration curve, and library fields could be chosen as labels, but the information in the field was not available in Review. The following changes were made to correct the problem in Review and in the Review part of QuickStart: When legends are turned on for the Zeroed Baseline plot, they are not automatically turned on for the 2D chromatogram plot. The following Legend fields are now available for the 2D Chromatogram and the Zeroed Baseline plots: Sample Set fields, Sample fields, Injection fields, Chromatogram fields, Result fields, and Result Set fields. (Result Set fields will not be available if a channel is associated with a sub-result such as a viscometer result.) The following Legend fields are now available for the Contour Plot: Sample Set fields, Sample fields, Injection fields, and Chromatogram fields. The following Legend fields are now available for the Chromatogram Result table: Sample Set fields and Result Set fields. The following Legend field is now available for various subresult tables: Sample Set fields. The Display Legend on Screen checkbox is now visible and useable on the Legend tab for Chromatogram, Zeroed Baseline, and Contour Plots. 47507 Baseline monitor would stop acquiring data from the 2414 detector. If a Sample Set was aborted while running a Purge Detector line or an Inject Samples line and then Baseline Monitor was activated, data acquisition from a 2414 detector would stop. This has been corrected so that normal instrument control and data acquisition can continue following the abort. 47546 Changes have been implemented to improve Instrument Server logging. Instrument Server logging is a special capability of Empower software that should only be used for troubleshooting purposes. Contact your Waters Service Representative if you believe that activating Instrument Server logging is needed. 47611 The project backup of parent and child projects showed duplicates in the list. This has been corrected so that a project is backed up only once, not multiple times. 47612 If a batch restore is canceled, a log file is generated, but with 0 bytes in size. This is normal behavior; however, an error message would appear when attempting to open the log file. This has been changed so that the error message no longer appears when you try to open the 0-byte log file. 47613 Project hierarchy was not working properly on project backup and restore. This has been corrected. Page 4 of 14

47623 If a data file was incomplete due to a buslac/e communication error, no error message was generated. This has been corrected so that Empower now marks the raw data file as incomplete, sends a message to the Message Center, and enters a message in the Acquisition Log indicating that a Disconnect/Reconnect cycle occurred during data acquisition. See also Known Issue items 46130, 47757 and 47766. 47625 The data rate stored with a raw data file was being modified if there was no x- axis label. This has been corrected so that when a raw data file has unspecified x-axis units, the x-axis units are assumed to be minutes. The value for the sampling rate field (xsamplingintervalorrate) in the raw data file will only be modified if the sampling rate is zero (0). Known issues in this release The following table contains a list of the known software issues and workarounds for Empower 2 SP H. PCS Number Description 46130 With IEEE-488 detectors (2410, 2414, 2487, 2996, 996, 486, 410) that may be installed with Waters Empower 2 FR5 (or higher) software, the potential exists for some data points within a channel of a 2D chromatogram to be missing. Waters Corporation continues to recommend that when using real-time virus scanning software, the user exclude all Empower-related folders and their subdirectories as some real-time virus scanning software mistakes normal Empower functionality for virus activity. This can interfere with Empower functionality and cause data anomalies (please see Empower 2 Installation and Configuration Guide, part number 71500109707/Revision B for details). Waters Corporation also recommends that all 2D chromatograms collected through the IEEE detectors installed with Waters Empower 2 FR5 (or higher) software be inspected for anomalies, such as an actual run time being shorter than the expected run time. 47658, 47745 When using a Citrix ICA client and the Citrix feature of % of Window, the user may experience a blank Run Samples screen because not all ACQUITY processes were terminated when the user previously logged off. While running acquisition with an ACQUITY PDA, QSM and FTN (H Class) on a Citrix server and using the connection preference Percent of screen, 80%, an empty window can appear after closing all windows and logging off and then trying to log on again. The empty window appears instead of the Empower login window. To access the Empower login window again if this occurs, on the Citrix server, end the processes for AcquityQSMServer.exe and AcquityFTNServer.exe. The other Citrix processes (sfshell.exe and cftmon.exe) will close as well. Then log into Citrix with Connection preferences set to Percent of screen, 80%. Now when you log in, the Empower login window appears. An update to the ACQUITY driver is also required. If necessary, contact your local Waters Support organization for additional information on working around this problem. 47742 Due to a change to the internal structure of the Empower 2 database, Empower 2 SP H projects cannot be restored into the base version of Empower 3. The issue will be corrected in Empower 3 Service Release 1. 47757 When running in Run and Process or Run and Report mode, if a buslac/e communications disconnect and reconnect occurs, the channel is marked "data Page 5 of 14

incomplete" when brought into Review. This is expected. However, the Project Audit Trail shows that a result ID was created for this injection. When this result is brought into Review, it is also marked "data incomplete" and no processing has occurred. 47766 With buslac/e-based acquisition, if a communications disconnect occurs, you may see one of the following behaviors: The incomplete run could end before its programmed run time, and continue with the next programmed injection starting early. If the analysis involved a solvent gradient, the injection following the data incomplete injection could be affected if the system is not given the time needed to re-equilibrate. An Instrument Failure message may be recorded. Additional communications disconnect messages may be recorded from the same system or a different system, with time stamps that are later than the end of the programmed run time. The system could stay at the Waiting for injection status indefinitely. 47974 The Dionex Instrument Integration for Empower driver prevents the installation of Service pack H. To keep this from happening, uninstall the Dionex LC driver, install Empower 2 SP H, and then reinstall the Dionex LC driver. GxP compliance requirements When you install Empower Software for the first time, or when you uninstall the software, perform software qualification to meet GxP compliance requirements. Any time you install or uninstall software in a GxP environment, Waters recommends that you follow your company s management-approved standard operating procedures for changing software. For help making software change management decisions, refer to the Empower 2 SP H program files updates section in this document that explains the program file updates contained in this hotfix. To verify that the Empower 2 SP H installation did not affect any data, reprocess a data set before and after you install the software, and then verify that the results are equivalent. Run the Verify Files utility or the ConnectionsAQT for Empower IQ, and review the resulting file for an entry that states No installation changes were detected. Installing Empower 2 SP H You can install this service pack by downloading it from the Waters web site or from the media. Restriction: No uninstall option is available for Empower 2 SP H. Requirements: You must have local administrator privileges to install Empower 2 SP H. Note that the Domain Administrator account might not have local administrator account privileges. Empower 2 FR5 (minimum) must be installed before installing Empower 2 SP H. Page 6 of 14

You must install Empower 2 SP H on all computers on which the Empower 2 client application is installed, including workstations, clients, LAC/E 32 modules, and servers (as listed in the Operating system requirements section at the start of this document). If the computer is in a client/server environment, when prompted to update the database, enter the password EMPOWERCSUPDATE, one word in all uppercase letters. To install Empower 2 SP H: 1. Insert the media in the media drive. 2. If the media starts automatically, follow all the prompts to complete the installation. If the media does not start automatically, browse to the media drive in Windows Explorer, and double-click Empower2SPHSetup.exe. 3. If you have problems installing Empower 2 SP H due to a Verify Files issue, contact your local Waters Support organization. Verifying the Empower 2 SP H installation You can verify that Empower 2 SP H was installed by running a utility called Verify Files. Running Verify Files creates a checksum.txt file that maintains a record of all Empower options and service packs installed on an Empower computer. The checksum.txt file also verifies the integrity of disk files by comparing their current CRCs and sizes with original values recorded during installation of the base software and any installed option or service pack. To verify your Empower installation: Click Start > All Programs > Empower > Verify Files. To view the checksum.txt file: From Windows Explorer, click Empower > Script > Checksum.txt. To confirm that Empower 2 SP H is installed on the computer: Click Start > All Programs > Empower > Installation Log to view the installation log, and search for lines similar to these: ******************************************************************************* Empower 2 SP H Installer Setup was initialized on 5-11-2011 11:11:06 ******************************************************************************* Setup has found a valid installation of Empower 2154 with the required Service Pack.
