1) Telehealth Monitoring Solution A rapidly ageing society, increasing healthcare costs and a shortage of healthcare workers are common problems today. ICT offers emerging options for the tele-care of the sick, elderly or infirmed, who require intermediate and long-term care. Even those who are health-conscious can benefit from this latest advanced technology as a preventive measure. medicap is part of ST Electronics Common Application Platform (CAP) for the medical domain. It comprises modular and scalable software modules for developing healthcare systems. The vital signs Telehealth monitoring system was developed for chronic diseases management and transition care using medicap. The medicap Telehealth monitoring solution monitors vital signs gathered from wireless health monitoring devices and wearable devices to analyse the data. Should there be abnormalities, it raises alerts to healthcare professionals for the necessary action to be taken. Consistent transmitted wireless signals allow for a more accurate and reliable monitoring of vital signs which can trigger early detection of any deterioration in health and help users avoid medical emergencies. medicap Telehealth Monitoring at a glance Integrates multiple health monitoring devices onto a common platform Increases accuracy and consistency of vital signs data which are monitored wirelessly for better diagnosis and appropriate treatment Prompts pre-emptive alerts to detect health problems before they deteriorate into serious conditions and prevents escalation to medical emergencies Offers more convenience for users; reduces hospital visits and burden on both users and the healthcare system i) medicap Wearables From empowering users to take control of their health to monitoring the vital signs of inpatients and out-patients for a hospital facility, medicap offers precautionary measures to safeguard the health and well-being of users. medicap wearables remotely monitor users vital signs with the help of wearable technology. Designed with sensors that track and log users activity data, commercial wearable devices can track health parameters such as heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature, hydration and movement. By adopting the multi-sensor data approach, readings from two or more parameters are helpful in recognising medical symptoms. The data is then synchronised wirelessly to the medicap system and mobile applications. Introducing the medicap Fall Detection System The medicap Fall Detection System works on a cloud-based technology platform that enables data sharing between the wearer, the next-of-kin and the medical facility. This gives the wearer the freedom to maintain an independent lifestyle, yet allow timely assistance to be rendered in the event of falls. Incorporated with intelligent sensors, the fall detection device is able to distinguish an actual fall from Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and is also capable of measuring the impact. A video call to the next-of-kin will be automatically triggered when a fall occurs. The user friendly interface also comes with a built-in SOS button, allowing wearers to contact the monitoring centre should an emergency occur. Integrated with a database management system, the medicap Fall Detection System provides real-time analytics for pattern detection and evaluation, allowing medical professionals to make faster and more accurate diagnosis. Optimised for both outdoor and home monitoring, the wearable device can be customised with a wide range of applications including vital signs monitoring, movement notifications and sports performance analysis. The wearable device is splash resistant and sports a non- invasive minimalist design that includes a low profile interchangeable band, making it comfortable for daily wear. The wearable device has a detachable sensor module with a battery-life of 7 days. Page 3 of 9
Features: Fall detection algorithm that can reduce both false positives (e.g. sitting down fast) and false negatives (e.g. falling on stairs) Built-in SOS button for live GPS updates & emergency events Calorie measurement Step counter Sleep quality tracker The medicap Fall Detection System is expected to be launched in Q2 2016. ii) Unified Gateway for Telehealth ST Electronics provides a secure and reliable Home Gateway and ICT infrastructure for home-based eldercare and healthcare monitoring, advisory services as well as integration with other home automation services. The solution seamlessly connects smart devices, sensors and systems to a patient s or user s healthcare service provider for remote monitoring of their health conditions. Through network connectivity available at home, medical sensors and advanced instrumentation can be connected to personal or cloud-based healthcare services, reducing the need to travel. This results in greater convenience for patients as it reduces the time and effort in travelling to and fro, and waiting for the doctor. Networked home exercise equipment and communal exercise areas can also be used as an easy means to remotely track and monitor one s exercise regime, key health indicators and the occurrence of medical emergencies. This will provide caregivers with greater peace of mind Page 4 of 9
2) Hospital C2 Operations Centre (HOC) With growing aging population and increasing demands in healthcare, there is an urgent need for hospitals to run their operations more efficiently and effectively. A hospital is a complex system of many activities, people, structures and material flows, and compounded by many hospitals functioning as a collection of wards, departments or independent operating units. ST Electronics HOC is an integrated system that empowers hospitals to effectively manage resources, improve response time and lower costs while providing better service quality to patients. Video surveillance and analytics help monitor and alert relevant staff to events of interest within all hospital areas. It is also integrated with Infrared Fever Scanning System 2 to facilitate quick detection and quarantine of persons suspected of carrying certain infectious diseases. HOC is designed to operate in a complex environment where the system consolidates and analyses data in real-time to provide situational awareness, information sharing and collaboration. It can be customised for management operations integration in different hospital environments to enhance overall hospital operation efficiency. Page 5 of 9
3) Smart Screening Solution IFSS has been successfully implemented in Singapore as well as overseas in Vietnam, Mexico, Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, Cambodia, Indonesia, Macau, Sri Lanka and Taiwan. More recent projects include Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh Airport, projects in Mexico and in Singapore, for the National Art Gallery and Ministry of National Development. IFSS uses leading-edge electro-optics technology and allows for rapid real-time mass screening. It allows detection of high temperatures in the environment. Coupled with Smart Screening Applications and software, the system can intelligently detect people with elevated temperature through the Health Screening Application. In the case of identifying Intruders, the system will engage the Security Screening Applications. Ergonomically designed and automated for quick deployment and instant usage, IFSS 2 uses touch screen menus, allowing the user to pre-configure for a host of detection alerts ranging from built-in audio/visual to email/sms alarms. IFSS 2 creates an automated security screening and alert management system. Features: Non-invasive, facial detection and tracking, rapid deployment, wired/wireless smart devices connectivity Applications: Automated Security Screening and Alert Management System, rapid real-time mass screening, mobile platform Page 6 of 9
4) Smart Building Energy Management System (SBEMS) for Green Hospitals Research has shown that a hospital with 1 million square feet uses 2.5 times the energy as a similar sized office building. Hospitals consume more energy because they operate 24 hours a day and thousands of employees, patients, and visitors occupy the buildings daily. Besides the sophisticated ventilation, heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that control the temperatures and air flow, there are many other energy intensive activities including laundry, medical and lab equipment use, sterilisation, computer and server use, food service and refrigeration. SBEMS for hospitals does not replace the conventional building automation systems but complements, collates and analyses the building performance data. SBEMS will provide real-time measurement and verification of the building equipment status. It also enables building owners to measure the building s performance indicators against its original design to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities. Incentives and policies such as the Energy Efficiency Financing Program in the USA and the Green Building Master Plan in Singapore have shown the importance of improving energy efficiencies in hospitals and healthcare facilities and SBEM can help hospitals better manage their energy programme and optimise energy performance.
