Day 1: Read John 7:1-24 LEGACY IMPACT BIBLE STUDY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS JOHN CHAPTERS 7 & 8 1. Why did Jesus stay away from Judea? 2. What did the brothers of Jesus want Him to do and how could you assess their attitude? 3. a. What reason did Jesus give His brothers why He would not go to the Feast of Tabernacles? b. Jesus knew the right time to act. We, too often, rush ahead or lag behind in God s timing. Think about the concept of time... What situations seem to make time pass faster or slower? means? What do you think God sent Jesus in the fullness of time What does time have in relationship to eternity? c. Relate a time when you recognized and responded to God s perfect timing. 4. a. What was the atmosphere in Jerusalem when Jesus arrived?

b. What keeps you from speaking publicly about Jesus? 5. When Jesus began to teach in the Temple, what was the Jews reaction? 6. a. Jesus had healed the man in Chapter 5 on the Sabbath. The Jews were strict about keeping the Law of Moses. What inconsistences did Jesus point out in verse 19?... verse 23? b. What inconsistencies are evident in your life by what you lay on others that you don t keep yourself? 7. a. What did Jesus tell them in verse 24? b. What did the Lord say in 1 Samuel 16:7? c. Consider honestly, how much does outward appearance affect or influence your opinion of others? Day 2: Read John 7:25-53 8. Even in the midst of confusion about His identity, many put their faith in Jesus (vs. 31). What did the chief priests and Pharisees do? 9. a. What did Jesus foretell about His death and resurrection? b. Why did the people misunderstand His statement?

c. It is easy to misunderstand another individual. What are some positive ways to keep misunderstandings from happening in your life? d. What are some positive ways to keep misunderstandings on your part from happening in your relationship to God? 10. a. What promise did Jesus make? b. How did the Gospel writer interpret living water? 11. a. What was the difference of opinion about Jesus? b. Share some of the differences of opinion you ve been confronted with about Jesus. 12. a. Why did the temple guards fail to arrest Jesus? b. How did the Pharisees react? 13. a. What was Nicodemus challenge? b. Share an occasion when you have received or observed mocking for trying to uphold justice. Day 3: Read John 8:1-20 14. When Jesus came to the Temple to teach, what did the Pharisee do to try and trap Jesus?

15. a. What was His statement? b. What happened? 16. a. What can we learn from Jesus about distinguishing between sin and sinner? b. Remember 1 Peter 3:15. In witnessing, the statement has been made, I know Jesus forgave the woman caught in adultery, but I ve never committed any big sin like that. Your answer? 17. What joy there is to know God s timing is perfect! Write a sentence or two that expresses praise for that attribute of His! 18. a. What did Jesus claim in verse 12? b. What did John tell us in Chapter 1:4-5? c. What do we learn in 1 John 1:5b? 19. a. What argument did the Pharisees use to try and refute Jesus testimony? b. List the reasons Jesus gave why His testimony was true. 20. a. For the Jews, an absent witness would be an invalid witness. Therefore, what question did they ask?

b. Where is the Father and how do you know? Day 4: Read John 8:21-41 21. What did Jesus say in today s reading about: a. His destiny? b. His origin? c. The crowd listening? d. The Father? 22. As a member of this crowd, what would you think was the major point Jesus was trying to get across? 23. Jesus said, I always do what pleases Him. What do you think/know pleases God? 24. a. Some Jews rejected Jesus and some believed. What did Jesus say to the believers? b. How is it possible to be in bondage of some sort and yet be unaware of it? c. Have you identified an area of bondage in your life? How can you be set free?

25. This teaching antagonized the Jews (vs. 33), so they wanted to do what in verse 37? 26. Who did the Jews claim as father in verses 39 and 41? Day 5: Read John 8:42-59 27. a. How did Jesus describe Satan? b. (IN-DEPTH) From your Bible knowledge, where have you seen Satan at work? c. What is a Christian to do to resist Satan from these Scriptures? Ephesians 4:26-27 James 4:7 1 Peter 5:8-9 d. Remember 1 Peter 3:15. In witnessing, the comment has been made, Satan isn t real. Your response? 28. Verse 47 says, He who belongs to God hears what God says. Share some ways you can be more receptive to hearing what God says. 29. a. What claim did Jesus make to the Jews in verse 51? b. How did they respond?

30. Why was it so hard for the Jews to understand Jesus when he referred to knowing Abraham? 31. The phrase I AM was very sacred and important to the Jews because of Exodus 3:13-15. What do you find in the Exodus passage that would have caused the Jews to feel that Jesus was blasphemous when He used it? 32. a. What action did they take? b. What do your reactions reveal about your relationship to God? 33. What joy there is to know freedom in Christ! Write a sentence or two that expresses that joy!
