Week Two Devotional Guide Week Two memory verse is: Psalm 5:3 (NIV) In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. PARAPHRASE IT: THE PARAPHRASE IT METHOD OF BIBLE MEDITATION Read the verse or passage over and over. Think about what God is saying to you. Put it into your own words. Search your heart to see how the verse applies to you. Talk to God about it. Ultimately, you want to be able to explain the entire verse or passage in your own words. The goal is to understand what God is saying to you through His Word (His breath.) EXAMPLE: Psalm 119:11 (NIV) - I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. PARAPHRASE: I have memorized your Word, so I won t give in to temptation. Think about it as two parts of a conversation. Say back to God what you heard Him say to you, but use your own words.
Then respond to Him with your thoughts and prayers, based on the passage your just read. Day 8: Psalm 5:1-3 (NLT) - 1 O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. 2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. 3 Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. Day 9: Psalm 34:1-5 (NLT) 1 I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. 2 I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are helpless take heart. 3 Come, let us tell of the LORD s greatness; let us exalt his name together. 4 I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.
Day 10: Psalm 34:6-7 (NLT) - 6 In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles. 7 For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him. Day 11: Psalm 34:8-10 (NLT) - 8 Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! 9 Fear the LORD, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need. 10 Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing.
Day 12: Psalm 34:11-14 (NLT) - 11 Come, my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you to fear the LORD. 12 Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? 13 Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! 14 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.
Day 13: Psalm 34: 17-20 (NLT) - 17 The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. 19 The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time. 20 For the LORD protects the bones of the righteous; not one of them is broken! Day 14: James 1:2-4 (NLT) - 2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
