What is sports and activities cover and what does it include? What is travel disruption cover and do I need it?

Should I buy a single or an annual multi-trip policy? If you are going on two or more trips in a year, you may find that our annual multi-trip travel insurance policy will work out more cost effective than taking out a separate single trip policy each time you travel. You can still take out optional covers such as winter sports cover on our annual multi-trip policy, as well as on our single trip policy. Further details of Halifax travel insurance What confirmation do I have for the cover bought? When you purchase travel insurance online we ll provide you with your policy number which confirms your cover. The policy number is also sent to your email address. In your online account space you ll be able to see your policy details including your policy schedule. What is my online account space? Your online account space is where you can sign in and have access to your policy 24/7. You can print your documents as well as make amendments to your cover. Can I travel without my policy documents? Yes, a valid policy number is all that s needed for proof of travel insurance when travelling. However, we also recommend you take all the helpline numbers, especially the emergency assistance service telephone number, with you when you travel and if possible, your policy booklet or summary and schedule, in case you need to check your cover whilst travelling. My age will change during the policy duration, will this affect my cover? For a single trip travel policy your age will be calculated from your date of departure and it will make no difference if your age changes during your period of travel. For an annual multi-trip travel policy your age will be calculated from the start date of the policy, so it doesn t matter if your age changes during the period of your insurance. The upper age limit is 76 and the cover will remain in place for the remainder of the policy, however we will not be able to provide you cover for the following year.

Am I covered as soon as I get the reference number? For single trip travel insurance your cancellation cover will start from the date the policy is issued. The rest of your cover will start on your intended departure date. For annual multi-trip travel insurance your cancellation cover begins either from the start date of the policy or from the date of booking any trip, whichever is the later date. You can take out an annual travel insurance policy up to 30 days in advance (for example to match the expiry date of a policy you wish to replace), but no cover is in force until the actual policy start date. What is the age limit on Halifax Travel Insurance? For a single trip policy you must be under 76 years old at the date of departure. For annual multi-trip policies you must be under 76 years old at the start date of the policy. How can I pay for the policy? We only accept card payments. You can pay for the policy by using your VISA, MasterCard, Maestro, Delta, Switch or Connect card. Please note that we don t accept VISA Electron, Solo or American Express cards. Please note, we don t accept direct debits as a method of payment. Do I need to declare existing medical conditions to obtain a policy? Yes, you have to declare existing medical conditions and the medical screening procedure can be done online. How long can I travel for? Single trip policy you can have cover for up to 183 days on a single trip policy. Annual Multi-trip policy you can have any number of trips throughout the year. However, no single trip should exceed 60 days. What are the sports and activities that are covered as standard on the policy? Halifax travel insurance policy covers a wide range of sports and activities as standard. The full list of sports and activities covered as standard can be found in the Some of the most popular sports and activities covered as standard without the need for any additional upgrades are banana boating, golf, snorkelling and tennis. For the more adventurous you can apply to have other activities covered for an additional premium.

What can I do if I want to cancel my policy? You re free to cancel your Halifax travel insurance policy at any time. You may cancel this policy within 14 days of receipt of the policy documents or the start date whichever is the later (the cancellation period) whether at new business or the renewal date by calling us on 0345 307 3801 or by writing to us at the address below during the cancellation period. Any premium already paid will be refunded to you providing you have not travelled, no claim has been made or is intended to be made and no incident likely to give rise to a claim has occurred. AXA Insurance PO Box 147 Civic Drive Ipswich IP1 2AN If you cancel after 14 days of receipt of your policy documents, no premium refund will be made. covers, exclusions and limitations, and the cancellation wording can be found in the policy summary and the What happens if I ve booked a trip to a country affected by a natural disaster? If you travel to an area affected by a natural disaster against the advice of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), your insurance policy may be invalid. You should check the FCO s website for information about the area you re travelling to for any advice or recommendations. If you ve booked through a travel agent or travel operator, you should contact them in the first instance. covers, exclusions and limitations, and the cancellation wording can be found in the policy summary and the What is an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card)? If you re a UK resident, you re entitled to medical treatment that becomes necessary at a reduced cost (or sometimes even completely free) when temporarily visiting a European Union (EU) country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. In addition, if you use your EHIC then we won t apply your excess if you also need to claim on your travel insurance for any costs not covered by the EHIC. It s important to note that the EHIC card is not a replacement for travel insurance which covers far more than what the EHIC agreement provides including repatriation. Can I apply for an EHIC card online? Yes. Applying for an EHIC card is free when you apply online through the Department of Health s official website www.dh.gov.uk/ travellers. This website also contains lots of valuable travel information about vaccines for the destination your are travelling to, country information and handy travel tips, or you can apply by calling the EHIC Application Line on 0300 330 1350. Your card will normally arrive within seven days. Be careful to avoid the websites that charge for an EHIC card.

What is a policy excess? A policy excess is the first amount you have to pay in the event of a claim. What is the maximum limit for valuable items such as jewellery and electronic equipment? The maximum limit for these types of items under the baggage section of the policy is 500. There s also a limit for any one article, pair or set of articles of 300. I m going backpacking for six months. Am I covered? The maximum time away covered by a single trip policy is 183 days, so this may be enough time for your trip. If you re planning on taking part in any sports and activities on your travels, make sure you check the policy booklet for details on cover. Further details of Halifax travel insurance I m planning to stay in Spain for three months, will you cover me? Yes. You could take a single trip policy for the length of your stay. I ve just found out I m pregnant and I don t wish to travel. Am I covered? You ll only be able to claim for cancellation due to pregnancy if your doctor advises against travel due to specific medical complications. I m on medication for hypertension. Am I able to buy travel insurance? When getting a Halifax travel insurance quote online you ll have the chance to tell us about any medical condition you or anyone to be insured has. By answering a few questions on our secure and confidential website, we may be able to offer you a quote which covers you and the medical conditions you ve told us about. What is classed as Europe? If you re buying travel insurance for Europe, Halifax Travel Insurance will also cover you in some non-european countries with a Mediterranean coastline. The countries we define as Europe are: Albania; Andorra; Austria; Belarus; Belgium; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Bulgaria; Canary Islands; Channel Islands; Corfu; Corsica; Crete; Croatia; Cyprus; Czech Republic; Denmark; Estonia; Finland; France; Fuerteventura; Germany; Gibraltar; Gozo; Gran Canaria; Greece; Hungary; Ibiza; Iceland; Irish Republic; Italy; Kos; Lanzarote; Latvia; Liechtenstein; Lithuania; Luxembourg; Macedonia; Madeira; Majorca; Malta; Menorca; Moldova; Monaco; Montenegro; Morocco; Netherlands; Norway; Poland; Portugal; Rhodes; Romania; Russia (West of Ural Mountains); San Marino; Sardinia; Serbia; Sicily; Slovakia; Slovenia; Spain; Sweden; Switzerland; Tenerife; Tunisia; Ukraine; Vatican City.

Do I need to tell you if I develop a new medical condition after I buy my travel insurance? Unlike some other insurers, we don t need you to tell us about changes to your health during your period of insurance as detailed on your schedule. However, you should consult your doctor before your trip to confirm you are able to travel. If you have your doctor s permission, you ll be covered by us. When you renew your policy or arrange a new quote, you must tell us about any changes in your health. I m travelling with my partner but we don t live at the same address. Is this a problem? A lot of people travel together who don t live at the same address so we have no issues with this. When obtaining your quote or buying your policy, simply enter the address of the main traveller. If you receive any correspondence by post, it will be sent to the address that appears on the policy. What is winter sports cover and what does it include? Our optional upgrade of winter sports cover is designed to provide protection for you on your winter sports trips. When you buy this upgrade it covers your ski equipment, ski equipment hire, ski pack and piste closure (all subject to your policy wording limits). This will also cover you for medical emergencies which we know can happen. Winter sports will cover your ski equipment and hired ski equipment up to the amount shown in your policy schedule for accidental loss, theft or damage. The amount payable in the event of a total loss will be the value at today s prices less a deduction for wear and tear and depreciation, or we may replace, reinstate or repair the lost or damaged ski equipment. We provide cover for the reasonable cost of hiring replacement ski equipment as a result of accidental loss, theft, or damage to or temporary loss in transit for more than 24 hours of your own ski equipment. This covers you for up to 30 per day up to a maximum of 300. You re also covered up to 400 for the unused portion of your ski pack following your bodily injury, illness or disease as well as up to 150 for the unused portion of your lift pass if lost should this also occur. We pay for transport costs necessarily incurred by you to travel to and from an alternative site due to lack of or excess snow or an avalanche results in the facilities (excluding cross-country skiing) in your resort being closed and it s not possible to ski. This is up to 30 per day up to a maximum of 300. Cover limits and exclusions apply so for further information please refer to your policy wording. What is sports and activities cover and what does it include? Sports and activities cover provides cover for you when participating in a sport or activity which you ve made us aware of prior to your trip. Details of the sports and activities which you ve bought will be added to your policy schedule. There are some sports and activities which are included automatically within the policy. Details of these can be found in the Your participation in or practice of any other sport or activity, manual work or racing unless specified in your policy wording or shown as covered in your policy schedule will not be covered.

Cover is provided up to the limit shown in your schedule in the event that you sustain a bodily injury, require repatriation or a personal accident causes the loss of limbs/sight. Cover limits and exclusions apply so for further information please refer to your policy wording. Delayed departure compensation (including delays to outbound connections) Missed departure expenses Up to 250 (up to 30 after 12 hours and up to 25 per 12 hours delay thereafter) Up to 1,000 (including up to 200 for taxis and hire cars) What is travel disruption cover and do I need it? Travel disruption cover is an important addition to our standard travel insurance policy. It offers some of the financial protection customers would normally receive from their tour operator when purchasing a package holiday. When booking travel and accommodation independently customers don t enjoy the same amount of financial protection when certain problems arise. If you re planning on booking parts of your travel arrangements yourself, rather than as part of a package from a travel agent, the travel disruption cover will protect you from such unexpected events which may be likely to surround the independent traveller. If you re buying an annual multi-trip travel policy the travel disruption cover included will allow you to be flexible in your future travel arrangements, and remain covered for travel arrangements you make independently. All limits quoted in the below table are limits per person. While you re at your destination: Alternative accommodation if your booked accommodation cannot be used or abandonment of trip On the way home: Additional expenses to return home or if you have to stay longer abroad Delayed departure compensation (including delays to inbound connections) Missed departure expenses Either up to 3,000 or up to 5,000** (including excursions up to 250 and up to 200 for taxis and hire cars) Either up to 3,000 or up to 5,000** (including up to 200 for taxis and hire cars and up to 200 for emergency replenishment of prescribed medication) Up to 250 (up to 30 after 12 hours and up to 25 per 12 hours delay thereafter) Up to 1,000 (including up to 200 for taxis and hire cars) ** See your policy schedule for your selected cover.
