POSITION SUMMARY: To provide service and strategies for a successful pulmonary rehabilitation. II. III. IV. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/ REGISTRATION: A. High school diploma. B. Current State Respiratory Therapist Licensure. C. Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy. D. BLS required, ACLS certification and Neonatal Resuscitation preferred. E. Three or more years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services. VI. VII. WORKING CONDITIONS A. Safe and effective administration of medically prescribed Respiratory Therapy. B. Set up all Respiratory Therapy equipment. C. Insure proper usage of equipment by making rounds four times a day, every day. D. Give all aerosol, treatments, medical gas, chest physio-therapy treatments, pulmonary function tests, blood gas analysis, ECG, Holter monitors, Echocardiogram, Stress testing. E. Cleans and maintains and sterilizes all equipment for Respiratory Therapy. F. Charges patients for services rendered. G. Keeps pertinent clinical records through careful observation of patients on service. H. Shares responsibility with other employees for maintaining high safety standards. I. Stores oxygen and gases safely, notifies employees, patients and visitors of precautions. J. Participates in lectures given by supervisor. Giving and explaining survey to every customer ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment. Remains alert, assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery. Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each. Sets-up and monitors mechanical ventilators and the associated critical care duties required for such treatment, such as airway management and tracheal suctioning. Performs arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis, and understands the possible complications and contraindications associated with the procedures. Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures. Performs duties unassigned by the Director when department is slow and census is low Performs EKGs, types report interpretations, sends reports to physicians who requested them and files reports in department, according to department procedures. Downloads Holter Monitors when it is returned to the department Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the difference in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of oxygen concentrations and medication doses as they relate to patients of varying ages, including pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently. Knows proper procedure for faulty equipment and follows through with procedure, not leaving it for next shift Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of a patient and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Patient s family is included in teaching as appropriate. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients needs are met and that hospital policy is followed. Uses teaching materials (pamphlets, placebo inhalers, etc.) to educate patients Ability to assess patient, his/her needs, and ability to tolerate treatment and reassessment for response to treatment. Attends education inservice programs to maintain professional competency. Obtains appropriate hospitalspecific education and training. Attends employee meetings, DECON, PI, etc. Participates in performance improvement activities and CQI teams when discussion pertains to departmental concerns, workflow and mission.
