Graduate and Undergraduate Programs
Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), founded in 1960, is a public educational institution, liked to the Federal System, situated in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Its headquarters and three main campuses are located in the city of Niterói and other seven campuses are distributed at other cities of the Rio de Janeiro state. UFF also counts on an advanced campus in Oriximiná, in the state of Pará, inside the Amazon Rainforest. With a population of 500,000 inhabitants, Niterói is only 13 kilometers (8 miles) away from the city of Rio de Janeiro, capital of the state, both located on the Guanabara Bay and on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Niterói is favored by predominantly tropical weather, an outstanding view of the city of Rio de Janeiro, with its mountains and tropical forest, as well as masterpieces created by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. UFF ranks among the best universities in Brazil, with approximately 40,000 students in 136 undergraduate programs, in addition to approximately 12,000 Master and Doctorate students attending 260 graduate programs. The undergraduate degree is the first step in the academic development, with is completed by the Masters and Doctorates courses, with a strong research emphasis. On the 2014 Undergraduate Unified Entry System for the Brazilian Public Universities (SiSU, in portuguese), UFF was one of the universities with highest number of applications with more than 138,000 applicants for its 9,249 places offered in the two semesters of 2014.
