FAQs SCHOLARSHIP I missed the scholarship application deadline, can I apply for a scholarship after the deadline or after I begin my studies at Quest? No, all scholarship awards are entrance awards and cannot be applied for after the application deadline. If a student needs funding during the course of their degree, they can apply for need-based financial aid. Is my scholarship for all four years of my degree? Yes, as long as you meet all of the requirements outlined in the Scholarship Renewal policy found at: www.questu.ca/scholarships Can I increase my scholarship while I am at Quest? No, your scholarship award amount will not be increased, except David Strangway Award for Excellence recipients whose award will always cover full tuition. Can my scholarship decrease while I am at Quest? Yes, if you are not meeting the requirements of the Scholarship Renewal Policy, your scholarship award may be reduced. Can I access the Work Study Program if I only have a scholarship? No, you must be receiving a financial aid award in order to have access to the Work Study program. FINANCIAL AID Do I need to pay back the Financial Aid money I receive from Quest? No, our financial aid is a grant to offset tuition costs and does not need to be repaid. However, if you are applying for financial aid from Quest, you are required to also access the government student loans available to you. What is an income tax summary? This is the one page summary of your/your parents tax assessment received after completing your taxes. We do not require the entire tax return, unless we ask you specifically for it. I m from the US. Why do I have to submit the Student Aid Report from the FAFSA as supporting documentation and not a tax summary? The Student Aid Report from the FAFSA summarizes and supports the basic income information we ask for. If you are applying for aid from the university, it is required that you will also be pursuing the government aid available to you, and therefore you will complete the FAFSA and receive a SAR (Student Aid Report). Doesn t Quest already get a copy of my SAR (Student Aid Report)? Why do I have to send one? Contrary to what the FAFSA website says, and owing to how we process US loan applications, Quest is not directly sent your SAR. As such we request a copy to be sent with your application. You receive a copy of your SAR at the email you indicated when completing the FAFSA. You can also log in to the FAFSA website after completing your FAFSA and click on the Student Aid Report link. You will need to be sure your pop-up blockers are off to view/download the SAR. Under Resources You Expect to Use in 2016 2017 do I indicate estimates of scholarships and financial aid from Quest? No, only enter the funding you expect to use from sources outside of Quest. With respect to student loans, while you have not applied for them yet, you can find information on the respective government websites of what amounts you could possibly expect to receive and enter that amount. Depending on your home country/province, we understand this will be an estimate. If your parents plan to have a loan to cover some of your fees, please also include that amount. (Please read two questions below) Under Resources You Expect to Use in 2016 2017 it asks for loan information, do I have to apply for loans? Yes. If you are applying to receive aid from Quest, you are required to pursue the external funding available to you (government loans/student line of credit). If you do not secure external funding your financial need will be re-assessed during the academic year and your financial aid award will be reduced. How do I know how much I ll get in loans so I can enter it on the form? For Canadian students, you can use the Aid Estimator found at http://tools.canlearn.ca/cslgs-scpse/cln-cln/sfae-eafe/sfaeeafe-0-eng.do. US students can reference our website at www.questu.ca/financing to review the US loans amounts available to you. Why does the Resources You Expect to Use in 2016 2017 section have to be filled in full? This is where you tell us what total resources you will have to cover the cost of attendance at Quest (tuition/room/board/etc.) and allows us to determine any remaining gap that aid from Quest can contribute towards. If this section is not filled in, or is filled with all zeroes, your information is considered incomplete and an award will not be granted. Please remember that aid from Quest can only be put towards tuition. My parents will not/cannot contribute to my educational costs. Do I have to include their information? Yes, unless you qualify as an independent student as per the government student loan guidelines in your country/province. If there are extraordinary circumstances regarding your status with your parents, please include a short written addendum outlining this and provide supporting documentation where possible. I am an independent student, what information do I provide and where? Please provide your financial information in the first column on page two of the application form. You must also provide supporting documentation for yourself about your income (income tax summary/student Aid Report/ etc). However, if you are considered an independent student yet are still receiving aid from your parents, you must also provide their financial information. What if there is something significant regarding my financial situation that is not captured on the form? Please include a short written addendum outlining this information, and provide supporting documentation where possible. Is my financial aid award for all four years of my degree? Yes, although students may be asked to submit a reapplication form with updated supporting documentation in April for the following academic year. In the event a student does not need a financial aid award due to increases in family resources, we expect they will notify the Financial Aid Director. If you have further questions please contact financial.aid@questu.ca. 2/5 2016-2017 FINANCIAL AID
