The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Training Academy Internship Program The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Training Academy offers an exciting and rewarding non-paid internship program that prepares students for the challenges and perplexities associated with careers in law enforcement. Our interns work alongside with patrol, investigations and various other specialized units within the department. As part of our internship program, interns are allowed to participate in the ride-a-long program with officers and crime scene search technicians. CMPD interns may work varying hours and shifts, depending on the need of the immediate supervisor. The mission statement of CMPD and its core values are strictly adhered. Our interns are expected to be: courteous, respectful, prompt and professional at all times. Deviation from these expectations will result in immediate termination from the program. Individuals that are interested in the internship program with CMPD are encouraged to obtain, complete in its entirety, and submit the Internship Application Packet. Internships are offered in the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters of the academic calendar year. All future candidates MUST submit the following: The Application, a letter of interest, a letter of recommendation from his/or her advisor, a resume and a copy of your official academic transcript. Note: The packet will be rejected if these items are not in accompaniment. When the packet is received, the candidate will be contacted for an interview, and a prepolygraph questionnaire. Note: Interns that are selected MUST submit to a drug test before being placed in an internship with CMPD.
