ECE: The World Needs YOU! How many pick ECE as your first choice? How many would like to study, say, business, rather than ECE? In studying ECE, you will not be disadvantaged, because you learn technical skills, especially mathematics skill, that you can handle only before turning 30; you study mathematics in an engineering context, closely related to the technological world; You learn how to work in a team to apply technology solve real world problem you could pick up knowledge such as business or psychology whenever you could spare the time.

ECE: The Road to Innovation and Technology Most enterprises based on innovation and technology are founded by ENGINEERS (Google, Microsoft, Intel, Facebook) You will learn both the scientific aspect of the world as well as the business perspective on how to put them into useful applications Role of engineer fundamental Scientist Businessman application science and operation Engineer People in the ECE Department are friendly, fun loving, and willing to provide support to you in all aspects of life

Danger of U Study Pace of study is fast: homework every week, lab sessions every other week, quiz/test every month, midterm on the 7 th or 8 th week, final on the 15 th week If you miss one week of work, you may not be able to catch up with the lecture and lose confidence and interest Need to decide add/drop within two weeks Many students have time management problem the first day they arrived Students easily get lost

In Times of Trouble If you have problem with your study or U life, you should seek advice from your Mentor (Your ELEC 195, 295 supervisor) You may also talk to Miu, MY, Tim or CY Tsui Do not sweep problems under the carpet: they will eventually haunt you!
