Standards Activities and Meeting Schedules The following standards meetings are routinely scheduled each year. Below is an annotated list of those meetings along with the web site that contains specific meeting logistics information. January Health Level 7 Meeting o Development of data messaging standards for transmission of clinical data, the HIPAA attachment booklet standards, and the functional model for the Electronic Health Record (EHR) initiative. o www.hl7.org February March April ANSI ASC X12 Meeting o Development of data messaging standards for transmission of the administrative data necessary for most of the HIPAA transaction standards. o Development of xxx0 versions of the standard. (Currently xx version is 501) o www.x12.org o Data content development for professional billing and reporting needs Public Health Data Standards Consortium Steering Committee Meeting o Facilitates the use of existing national standards and identifies priorities for the development of new national data standards for public health and health services research through a confederation of effected health industry organizations. o Meeting location is the DC area o http://phdatastandards.info/ Health Care Utilization Project (HCUP) Annual Partners Meeting

Claims Attachment Rules NPRM not published yet, but due out in 2004

Note: Development of this NPRM is a joint HL7 & X12 activity Additional Rules of Note: Enforcement o It is expected that there will be a formal rule to specify how the HIPAA rules will be enforced. It is expected that the guiding principal for enforcement will be driven by complaints. o An Enforcement rule is in process with no target date provided by DHHS Standard Modification o It is expected that there will be a formal rule to specify how the HIPAA rules can be modified to meet industry needs in a more timely fashion. o A standard modification rule is in process with not target date provided by DHHS.
